Thanks, Jim, you are golden. The things people on these message boards know is quite amazing.

    spalding stringing patterns

Thanks, coachrick. Sorry to get your week off to a disappointing start. My friend has a lot of racquets I've never heard of, perhaps models that were only released in Asia. I agree that the GC-20 had to come out earlier than 1988; I love the Kuebler reference book but I'm sure some of the...

    spalding stringing patterns

Hi all. I'm hoping someone (coachrick, you out there?) can help me. A tennis friend in Japan acquired two vintage Spalding graphite racquets and couldn't find stringing patterns for them. One is the GC-20, and that pattern was easy to find because it was a popular model; but the other is a...

    Golden Ace

Pro Kennex made a few models similar to the Golden Ace -- in addition to a Golden Ace, I have one called a Blue Ace and another called a Graphite Ace. Really pretty racquets. The Golden Ace differed primarily, I think, because it had boron.

Donnay experts!! Which Pro One is this? (Pics)

I appreciate knowing how these all fit together. I do find that red/white/blue Pro One kind of an oddball -- not really a part of the Pro One International series. And it does play differently. So it looks as if the Pro One International midplus has had three versions, unless there's another...

Donnay experts!! Which Pro One is this? (Pics)

I'm a big Pro One fan, but my questions concern the Donnay Pro One supermidsize (midplus), not the OS. I really like the midplus models, and have a number of variations. I just don't know how they all fit together, or if there are others besides what I have. I do believe the purple and red...

    old A&F racquet

I have a nice Abercrombie & Fitch 80s graphite racquet, and so looked up a bit of the company's history to try to figure out where it came from. A&F actually started out as an upscale sportings goods company in the late 1800s, catering to big game hunters and fishermen, and was successful for...

Looking to compile a history of Rossignol rackets

Not interested in getting rid of any of mine at the moment. But they show up periodically on the big auction site, and aren't really very expensive for the most part.

Looking to compile a history of Rossignol rackets

I've got one. You want it? :) Rossi made some odd frames later on. I have a DT 6.40 and an FT 6.80 and one called an RS-06, as well as a couple of Vectris frames. Those Vectris models had baffling names: one of mine is a 6.000 G.K., which is a midplus; the other is a 9.000 D.P. oversize. What...

Looking to compile a history of Rossignol rackets

Great thread. Some of us are trying to collect the old classics -- coachrick LIVED the old classics. I have quite a few Rossis. These interesting ones were from a woman whose husband had been a Rossignol rep. She eventually put them up on the big auction site. Here's what I got from her...

    (Official) Wilson Sting Fanclub

The Sting Standard is truly standard size, as in the standard size of wood racquets of the time. Here's mine, compared with one of my Sting Midsizes. The Midsize is 85 sq. in. -- the Standard is probably in the 75-80 sq. in. range. The Sting Midsize came out in about 1985, but I can't find any...

    Slave to my FPK--Please Help!

Why are you trying to get a newer model rather than just stock up on FPKs? There still are quite a few out there -- if you can't find an equivalent, stick with what you like.

    Snauwaert Caravelle

Here's my Caravelle. Beautiful piece of work. It has a split shaft and a narrow throat, so it doesn't feel as cumbersome as some old wood racquets. The split shaft adds flexibility and the write-up on the shaft says it also dampens the feel of the racquet. It is white ash reinforced with "vulcan...

    Snauwaert Caravelle

Hi. I have a Caravelle in superb condition that I would be happy to sell you at a reasonable price. If you contact me at schu11 at charter.net, I'd be happy to send you detailed photos and talk to you about price and shipping. I'm a longtime forum member with good feedback on previous dealings...

    Bard Jade Fire

Yes, they are real jade. That's why they're worth a fortune today. I know I'm sitting on a gold mine by having a few. :) The 2010 update of Kuebler's Book of Tennis Rackets has a little history of Bard. According to the book, Bard started with a Miami sporting goods store owner named Mitch...

    Bard Jade Fire

Some of the prettiest frames ever. I have a Jade Fire Mid, and Retro is right on the money. Head light, narrow beamed, boron/graphite, weighs 12.0 oz. strung. Even prettier is the Jade Ceramic Mid-Plus. That one is 80% boron/graphite and 20% fiberglass, more like 90-95 sq. in., 11.9 oz. strung...

    Anyone familiar with this Spalding?

Hi. Can't help you with that particular model, but I have a few similar Spaldings -- 1980s, probably 85 sq. in., very thin beam, probably 17-18 cm., graphite, flexy. Here are some pics -- they are a Tour Pro, Graphite Legacy and Le Sport. In fact, they have the same "midsize bow" with "zylon...

    The Old Bag Thread

Hey Retro. I don't think much about bags, but got these beauties when I bought some classic racquets. Imagine my surprise when I got a Puma Becker Winner and got the bag as a throw-in. Or when I bought a bunch of great old Rossis and they showed up in original Rossi bags. It's pretty cool once...

Classic graphite must hits - what's your list?

Great thread. I love the old graphite classics, especially the early ones from the '80s, and I love taking them on the court to try. There are so many great ones, but here are six that I really liked when I hit with them -- they aren't always the ones I've heard other people rhapsodize about...

    Fox racquets?????

I've got a few of the eight-sided racquets, too -- a couple of the Ceramic Pro WB-210s, the white Bosworth model with the red dashes; a Graphite Pro 210, the black one with the green stripes; and a Target 210, basically a wide-body version. There is also a Ceramic Precision WB-215 from that...

    My Adidas

I haven't played with it for quite some time, but my recollection is that it is midrange as far as stiffness. I think it's comparable in many ways to the Volkl 10s, Dunlop 200s, Donnay Pro One Internationals, and they all are around the 60 range in stiffness. I don't actually know -- I've never...

    My Adidas

Thanks, Hannah. I appreciate the information. The NTP 90 isn't really a widebody per se. Feels like a nice player's racquet to me. It was a lot better than adidas' latest efforts, IMO.

    My Adidas

Beautiful. That's a great Lendl collection, Mick. I have a couple of Deltas -- a Delta Concept 2 and a Delta Club 3 -- and they're both a kind of aquamarine color. So I'd also be interested in knowing if the white ones are Deltas. Here's my favorite: it's an NTP 90 C. I don't know much...

    65-79 Graphites

proracketeer, I have one of those Caldons, and haven't ever seen another one. Very cool that you have it. I know it was made in Belgium and is all fiberglass, but that's all. My friend Virginia in New Zealand has another Caldon, an all-black model. Do you know anything more about them?

Graphite, Anyone? It's The Last Word In Snob Value, The $200 Tennis Racket

Sports Illustrated was right on the money with that statement -- time has shown us that there was no market for graphite racquets. :)

My dear Virginia, The Fansteel will be on its way to you next week, along with a number of other additions to your magnificent collection. I'm happy to be your American middleman. I owe my Fansteel to you, I know, as well as that wonderful Slazenger Phantom. :) You probably have more of...

    65-79 Graphites

Here are mine. Manufacture dates, when included, come from Kuebler's Book of Tennis Rackets. Left to right: Wilson Sting Standard, little brother to the Sting midsize; Aldila Cannon, 1976; Fansteel Super Graphite, 1977; Slazenger Phantom, 1974; Desporte Competition; Tony Trabert C-6, 1976 or...

    Wilson Sting Mid

Here are a couple more. This is the High Beam 95 Sting from the 90s (on the bottom) compared with the 1985 midsize. The High Beam is lighter and a wide-beam, nothing like the classic 80s model even though they tried to duplicate the color scheme and graphics. Personally, I think the High Beam...
