This kid will be America's next Grandslam champion... Zachary Svajda

Some aspects of conventional upbringing are important for raising sane children, regardless of what age you start tennis at. Those who are trained only to focus on tennis at the expense of everything else are the real "losers" as you put it, b/c even if they do succeed professionally (which is...

This kid will be America's next Grandslam champion... Zachary Svajda

For every Mike Agassi, there are at least 10,000 parents just as neurotic, compulsive and abusive whose children don't make it. Unless a kid is started by 5 or earlier? As I mentioned above, Federer didn't start till age 6. Heck, even John Isner (who is good enough to make a living as a...

This kid will be America's next Grandslam champion... Zachary Svajda

Exactly. The age of six is WAY too early to be hyping up any tennis player. Fed didn't even pick up a racket until he was six; neither did Steffi Graf.

Its Fed...same video they used in his Nike commercial from 2007 where Tiger Woods was the narrator.

sampras downplays the borg record of 5 consecutive wimbledon titles

Personally insulting other posters -- as you have repeatedly done to me -- is flaming. Read the rules, or you'll get banned like GameSampras did.

sampras downplays the borg record of 5 consecutive wimbledon titles

Wrong again, ***********. Must you flame like a 1st grader? Grow up. I never said Fed's draws were always tougher than Pete's -- though his 05 draw was easily more difficult than Pete's 00 draw. Read my original post again.

Del Potro and Andy Roddick lose to two unknown qualifiers in First Round of Beijing

That's why you shouldn't post spoilers on the general thread. Even if the matches have finished, some people may be watching them on tape delay. Thus, your thread ruined it for such people (which are likely many since very few people got to see those matches live) and why you have been...

sampras downplays the borg record of 5 consecutive wimbledon titles

His 99 and 97 draws were also not hard. Neither was his 96 draw -- that's 4 and counting (not just one). Why do you have such a hard time understanding simple points? Only Pete's 93 and 95 draws were hard. Again, get a clue.

Thats fine, just don't pretend like the parents aren't manipulating the situation for financial benefit. If they want to manipulate, that's their choice, but they shouldn't pretend as though they're not doing it.

Exactly....he already had 4 sponsors at age 5. That doesn't happen without self-advertising. Hopefully he really likes tennis, or else he will burn out.

Laughable. Here's the link: http://articles.latimes.com/1992-01-17/sports/sp-253_1_u-s-olympic-team Show me your source, since according to you it was "well publicized at the time". ROTFL!! To imply that Fed would tank any Olympic singles match when he cared enough to play doubles is being...

sampras downplays the borg record of 5 consecutive wimbledon titles

He certainly did, but he also played some clowns en route to the finals also. His 2000 Wimbledon draw was by far the weakest for a slam champion -- Jan-Michael Gambil in the QF? Vladimir Voltchkov in the SF? Justin Gimelstob and Jonas Bjorkman? I'll laugh in advance if you try to tell me that...

    Olympic Medalist Slam Champions

So you admit you were wrong to say the field was weak. Just say it instead of these long rambling explanations. Clueless statement -- Agassi wanted to go -- he just wasn't chosen ahead of Courier, Sampras or Chang then, b/c when the decision was made in January 1992, the USTA chose...

    Olympic Medalist Slam Champions

No it was not -- we have repeatedly talked about this. VERY untrue...the 1992 field was stronger than most slams today (which you already know yet choose to conveniently ignore); the 2004 and 2008 fields were no different than a slam, and the 1988 field would have been except that Lendl...

Is Agassi's 1st serve return overrated?

I disagree. Agassi stood very close to the baseline even to return 1st serves -- that's why he allowed so many aces. In return, he was able to hit aggressive shots off of the serves he could return; that's why he was so effective. Most players who serve 40+ aces over a 5-set match LOSE, so...
