‘I Don’t Like Being Called Carlos’ – Carlos Alcaraz Has a Bizarre Request Related to His Name

It is a nickname (or diminutive), but he's not trying to "force" anyone to use it. He just requests people call him by his nickname, just like Stanislas Wawrinka prefers 'Stan'.

Agreed. A nickname is exactly what Carlitos is to his given legal name of Carlos. As you've mentioned, nicknames are generally diminutive versions of a person's given legal name(s) or a name of reference completely different as a term of endearment or affiliation. Nothing wrong with him wanting to be called Carlitos.

Another example would be Tiger Woods. Tiger is not his given legal first name. It's the name he's known by and goes by, but it's still a nickname.

I understand him tbh if you grew up with strict parents and you did something they didn't like they would use your full name to call you out lol

So I get it when he says it sounds something serious

During the post-match interview after his second-round victory, the Spaniard opened up on why he doesn’t like being called by his first name. Further, he said, “I don’t like being called Carlos. I like Carlitos or Charlie. Honestly, Carlos seems very serious to me and it seems that I have done something wrong.”

"Sometimes, when people get too chummy with me, I like to call them by the wrong their real name, to let them know I don't really care about them" @MeatTornado

He wants to be called “Tiny Carlos” but he is not ready to fully admit that.

Carlitos is very close though.

So we get it.
