“Guy got Rafa on the phone. His feeling is that it is a good decision that allows the clay to stay on the calendar.”

More likely although still speculative:

USO - 31 August to 13 September

Laver - 25-27 Sept with first round bye into Wimbledon for participants

Wimbledon - 28 Sept to 11 October with China and Japan events out

FO - 26 Oct to 8 Nov with Basel and Paris cancelled

I agree with him. playing later is better than Not playing at all. so what if it is in September, win is a win, he can still tie roger's record. Rafa has to stay healthy til September though
Don't hold too much hope. Cases are rising everywhere. Tennis could be done for all of 2020.

So he should clear it with the King of Clay before making a decision. As Conor Mcgregor would say... the King does what the King wants

200.webp

So when Djokovic SUPPOSEDLY knew about the cancelation and left before everyone (even though it’s all speculation and he had good reason to leave) there’s a backlash, but when the French Tennis Federation president ADMITS RG told Nadal about the cancelation of the tournament before letting anyone else know, nobody bats an eyelid?

The French Open would not be playable in November. Average temperature would be 7/44 degrees.

Most tennis fans would cheer exactly that, given that he was given a free ride to the '19 crown, courtesy of one Guy Forget!

But I'm confident either Dominic or Novak will get him this time, given a fair chance, of course!
Yeah never mind the fact that Rafa has won his last 3 clay meetings with Djokovic....
2017 Madrid = Nadal 62 64
2018 Rome = Nadal 76(4) 63
2019 Rome = Nadal 60 46 61
(and that is the first bagel in the history of their rivalry)
And never mind the fact that Thiem can't even push Rafa to 5 sets at Roland Garros, and the fact that Thiem needed a 76 46 76 76 grindfest just to beat Rafa at Rafa's worst slam event....
2014 = Nadal 62 62 63
2017 = Nadal 63 64 60
2018 = Nadal 64 63 62
2019 = Nadal 63 57 61 61
And never mind the fact that Thiem and Djokovic will have to play the US Open just before Roland Garros, so no chance of them being fresh....

Wrong.
The French Open is September 20 - October 4.
Its the only slam we definitely know the date of.

“We had Rafa on the phone we tried to reach other players,” said Guidicelli during a press conference, according to RMC Sport.

Pandemic allowing.

As I said, Djokovic has a separate 7-0 streaks against Nadal since 2011. The best Nadal manages against Djokovic during that time is 3-0 streaks.

I find it fascinating that Federer is 6-1 against Nadal in last 7, with the loss coming on clay. Why does Nadal keep getting beat by an aging, slowing player? Federer must hope he keeps running Nadal, one way to keep his ranking high. No wonder he had to have that exho in SAfrica!

Now, without question, Nadal is the least of the Big 3.

I think France will make sure Roland Garros is played, just to annoy the US Open/Rod Laver folks.
How are those h2h's relevant?
This is clay......and even more significantly its Roland Garros.

Heck, Federer couldn't even win a set at Roland Garros SF last year, despite being on the greatest roll of his life vs. Rafa....
And Djokovic hasn't even looked competitive on clay vs. Rafa for the last 3 years.....Djokovic only won ONE set in their last THREE clay matches, and the score of that 3-setter was 60 46 61!

"Why does Nadal keep getting beat by an aging, slowing player?" Ah, why don't you ask Djokovic? Federer had more energy in the Wimbledon SF last year than in the Final, and Djokovic still had to survive match points! And Federer mauled Djokovic at the World Tour Finals last year....

That match was ruined by the gales, obviously Nadal's muscular bashing is going to be less affected by the storm than Federer's artistic stylish play.

Next slam will be 2021 Australian Open - earliest.
CV19 could be on a 2nd wave by then aswell, so maybe not.

I think Roland Garros will be the only slam played this year.
You can tell how serious Guy Forget is about this, especially after the US Open and Laver Cup got upset.
They're going to play it without crowds, and without ball kids.
You can get players into France without them having contact with the public.
