Legend
In his interview with Tennis Majors, Ivanisevic spoke about Djokovic regaining his form in a matter of weeks, the mental toll Australia has taken on Novak, his reaction to occasional Djokovic’s outbursts during matches, Nadal and Alcaraz among other things.

In before people get mad at one of the 3 best players in history of a sport being called a geniu
While the term genius is occasionally used for sport or non-intellectual domains, that is not the general use.

Most of the time, the word is applied to intellectual domains. Physics genius, chess genius, literature genius, etc.

Obviously, Goran means here a tennis genius, and no one disputes that. But people here are just making fun of the most common use of genius (exceptionally high mental capacities) applied to Djokovic. None of the Big 3 are "geniuses" in the later sense. Almost nobody is.

A genius of pushing, while Nadal/Federer have the genius strokes :happydevil:

And also a brilliant language speaker.

Eventually there are always going to be people who will try to make fun of him or diminish him in some ways.. that's fine, let them.
He will remain the Greatest tennis player of all time and they will forever remain anonymous, trying to make fun of him on some Internet forum, and also in that they fail:-D

This sentence Goran said is so true: "I mean, he is a genius, because it takes so little for him to be back on his highest level. Believe me, 95% of the players would have never recovered after everything that has happened in Australia. But we expect him to just get over it: “You have to do this and that in a few weeks time”. It does not work that way, he was very affected mentally."

But thanks for sharing, okay interview.

"Look, let him scream, let him take it all out, as long as he wins, that is the most important thing."

Such a wise healthy approach. Maybe Novak's nervous system is constantly getting overstimulated, which is not good for anyone's health, but if he wins, just let it burn.

With people like this surrounding him, no wonder Djokovic's attitude only keeps getting worse. Real support means going against your friends' destructive tendencies, not just saying nice things to appease them.

I wish he wouldn't give interviews during majors. You have all year to do this stuff. During majors, you should be silent.

He wouldn't be Ivanisevic then. Goran is naturally a very impulsive and passionate person, his whole career was like this.

I know but it's kind of about Djokovic now and he needs to zip it more. Last time he gave an interview at RG in 2020, we saw what happened...lol

He won't, he can't help who he is. Besides he was building up Novak last RG, and look how that turned out.

I'm just used to Vadja who was silent as a mouse. I'm just less talk and more action of a person I guess. Maybe because I'm a bit superstitious as well.

Sure, I mean I would prefer it also. But clearly Djokovic keeps him around, because they vibe very well together, and it helps Djokovic. I'm sure Djokovic would have told him to stop talking or he will let him go, if Novak really was bothered or felt it put him in a mental place he didn't want to be in.

That it true, although Goran's statement was right last year when he said it's better for Novak to meet Nadal at the Semi finals and not the Finals.

Well there was Becker who liked to yap also but he mainly did it in between majors. Lol. Ivanisevic is very encouraging to him though and they mesh well; I'm not saying he's not good for Djokovic, just that I wish he would do these interviews before a major or afterwards. But like you said if Djokovic has no problem with it then it is what it is.

Social networks are created so that every coward can give their opinion about anyone. Live your life and stop being negative

For me it's just the opposite, I think it's good for him to scream when he feels he needs to, I like it when he does it and it come just at the right times. I guess it's different for everybody, maybe for another player what you said would have been true. I think keeping the emotions inside him that's what's going to eventually destruct him.

Exactly, he was being mocked here by some for saying anything after RG 2020, yet this time, he got it 100 percent spot on.

My point is not that it's better to repress your emotions. I'm saying that it isn't normal or healthy that Djokovic's emotions are so intensely negative on the regular basis.

Ivanisevic makes a comment about this being a little exra stress, but if it's little, why does Djokovic have to let it out basically every match and even in practices? Novak's behavior isn't the result of just being competitive, it clearly speaks of underlying issues.

But obviously the comments on this from Novak, Goran, Novak's fans show why it isn't being addressed. You hear how it's not a problem, he's actually fueled by negativity, emotional outbursts are natural, that's when he plays his best, he's winning so everything's fine. Sad that many people who surely want best for him don't see that his emotional instability has entered the unhealthy territory and it will be damaging in the long run. Not even a full-on breakdown mid match at the USO has given people a clue.

I don't know, I don't think it will be damaging in the long run, but only time will tell. Just like he is a mental giant in the game, he is also strong mentally in his life.

It's not just screaming, you can see other emotions it his game, and not only negative. It depends on the situation, and it's not every time, for example last match against Bedene he was pretty calm and relaxed the entire match, he didn't scream at all.

What happened at the USO was a one time event, and was a result of all the cumulative pressure that built up of being one match away from the CYGS,
and the USO crowd suddenly cheering for him after all those years of mainly being against him, so I can't blame him, I would have felt the same way.

He gets angry and strongly irritated far more frequently than practically anyone on the tour, and him stayng calm throughout a whole match is literally an exception.

Now a couple facts about anger (taken from this interestinv article):
  • Although anger feels like a big dominant emotion for most people, in psychology it is often viewed as a secondary emotion. This means that anger is an easily accessed and primal response while behind it are the true triggering emotions such as frustration, abandonment, loneliness, and loss.
  • As a biological response, anger releases huge amounts of cortisol and adrenaline into the bloodstream, which over the long-term, interfere with the body’s ability to heal itself.
  • Occasional anger is fine for the body—as long as there is a recovery time for the body to clear itself of cortisol and adrenaline. Constant and building anger are detrimental to the body and often are ignored because a person has become accustomed to living in a toxic and over-stimulated environment.
  • when an individual becomes adapted to a toxic, overstimulated environment, anger can start to wear down the body and mind.
  • Anger can cause high blood pressure, migraines, gastrointestinal issues, and rapid heart rate. Anger also fatigues our adrenal system.
Even without being aware of these facts, it is so clear to me that Djokovic is not thriving despite the amazing career success. His emotional well-being is getting worse, his reactions are unstable, he becomes more and more short-tempered. That's not something that can just disappear once he steps off the court.
