“Wish I’d be Federer, I could make an ace at 40/15” – Fonseca wants to change Wimbledon 2019 champion

Asked if he wished he could have played a match that he only watched, Fonseca said

“The one in 2019, when Roger had match point against Djokovic at Wimbledon. I wish I would be Roger, so I could make an ace at 40/15. I want to change history,” he said.

“I’ve not met Roger yet, but he’s my idol in tennis...."

The legacy of that match is only going to grow larger with time. The greatest Wimbledon champion of all time, with 2 CP on his own serve, serving for another Wimbledon title....and on the other side of the net, was the ONLY guy who could have done what he did. Insane.

Berdych would have completed the 40-15.

Remember he was his last loss at Wimbledon for almost half a decade.

Proud of you, Dad.

Even respected the GOAT by wearing his shoes.

Its not a big news. Djokovic is legend and berdych would want cheap wins as he is not at same level remotely.

Easier said than done. Even John Isner, with perhaps the greatest serve of all time, there's a good chance he'd bottle it under that pressure IMO

As long as Wimbledon is played, 40-15 will be one of the iconic moments of the Open Era, alongside Nadal beating Federer in the fading light in 2008, the Borg v McEnroe tie-break in 1980 etc, Ashe's completely left-field tactics vs Connors in 1975 etc. Moments that transcended the sport.

I'm so freaking happy they slowed the Wimbledon courts down to favor Djokovic's game more. It was getting annoying seeing Federer winning all the time
I do believe United Kingdom did make changes to courts on Wimbledon in order to slow them down, so it could benefit the game of Serbian who rejected their offer for citizenship to play for their country. Yes.

So will the Isner Mahut match. That was a sad day. It created ties at WC.

Most famous tie for sure.

how come everyone brings this all the time when its the 2nd time it happened but nobody talks about the first one lol

That's the only way to stop Federer because they don't want him to win every year. It's like Chamberlain in basketball. They had to change to rule to limit his dominant on both end of the court he was unstoppable.

Heh,heh. Like the dude - sizzling game, one of my contenders for future champion. But Joao better join the queue for this one, standing behind many of us who think we could have done better - probably including Roger! How sharp that painful memory still is......

If he played that match he would be straight setted by Novak. To get to the match point he would need play at a level he could only reach in his dreams.
Man, the young hopefuls MUST dream - important to aim for the best. But I concur with your point, it was a close match and few others could match Novak at that level. I thought it was touching that Novak acknowledged how close it was in his loser's speech at Wimbledon 2023. when he mentioned he may have received his comeuppance ( words to that effect) for beating Roger that day. In other words, these things are often decided on a pinpoint. Anything can happen.

But it won't do on this board to conclude without the obligatory stating of the blindingly obvious, from the highest heights of a high horse. Namely, JF must learn that great success does not guarantee that wtf moments won't arise, and he, JF is likely to have some of his own. Uncertainty of outcome is the only certainty. Destiny seems to enjoy the bursting of bubbles, the twisting of fate.

Well, if Federer had won that MP against Anderson the year before, you wouldn't have to worry about any changes in the rules. Federer not winning that point hurt him quite badly.
Thats true, but the mp was on Anderson's serve. And he pinned Fed perfectly to backhand corner with Anderson towering the net. Fed had no chance to win that mp.

Why are we talking about Tsonga? Sampras lost to Bastl, ROFLMAO.

Sampras could beat his main rivals. Federer lost to his main rivals more often than not, his only victories against his main rivals aside from FO 2011 came against them on their worst surfaces (Wimbledon 06) , or when they were out of form, or at an older age (Agassi at US Open 04/05). cheers.

I do believe 24 is greater than 20. I think it's a fact to be honest.
Just like 8>7.

Djoker could not even beat Sampras or Agassi. Fed did.

what even is 8>7, is it the amount of slam wins Federer has over Djokovic?? that's irrelevant. Federer was playing 19 year old Djokovic in slams during 2007.

congratz to peak Fed for closing 34 year old recovering meth head Agassi out in 5 sets
Congratz on Djoker tieing a 38 year old broken back and knee man because of a rule change.
