38 unforced errors

about 20 shanks

match to forget for roger

if he keeps this up maybe 2011 will be the last curtain call for rog, being serious about it he has nothing to gain if he keeps losing in semifinals, finals etc

Jason Goodall and Robbie Koenig are Nadal butt kissers of the highest order. Koenig in particular is shameful and Goodall keeps whining in agreement.
You would think the ATP would employ impartial or neutral commentators instead of fawning Nadal fanboys. What a joke.

They're praising the great play from the winner. Are they going to praise the crap play from the finished Federer? Of course not!

Fed lost a good chance here, Nadal isn't playing great tennis.
So many easy errors from Fed.

That was a sad beatdown.

I don't think Fed is done, but we're probably just gonna have to get used to more rough matches like this between the flashes of brilliance.

Federer should have made a graceful Sampras like exit from tennis. And that's the bottom line.

Sure, Fed's playing like crap, but I don't really see why he should retire if he wants to keep playing.

And a graceful exit like Sampras?! Sampras was ranked far lower than Federer is when he retired.

Wow im shocked, very very sad to see, this will surely hurt roger very badly, i really hope roger can come back from this terrible loss, its hard to see how he could have the motivation anymore, i guess its maybe time to start accepting he's not good enough anymore at almost 30 years old to beat the likes of rafa and novak now, i really hope im wrong.

But he called it quits after winning the USO by destroying everyone in his path.

Hey buddy! How ya doing? :D

Yeah, I'm great. I'm happy after Rafa's win tonight :)

Federer should have made a graceful Sampras like exit from tennis. And that's the bottom line.

Sampras got a load of criticism in 2001 and 2002 and a ton of questions about how "over the hill" he was. Losing to Bastl at 2002 Wimbledon was the ultimate low, yet Sampras' last tournament was winning the 2002 US Open.

Miami HC is as slow as clay. Nadal's the favorite and won.

You´re an idiot. In fact, Miami is faster than , at least, Indian wells, Toronto and Montreal. Federer is nowadays worse than Nadal on every single surface, PERIOD. (he has a chance only indoors on a really fast court, like masters cup)

Alright, this is the REAL reason why Fed lost -- he wants to avoid losing to Djokovic 4 times in a row.

**ducking flying tomatoes**

Instead of some people on this board picking Fed's matchplay to pieces, how about ALSO giving Rafa some credit - he played consistently good tennis tonight to seal the win. I agree Fed didn't play anywhere near his best, but at the end of the day, Rafa's game was too good. Or is that too hard for some of you diehard Fed supporters to admit. I enjoy watching both Fed and Rafa, we are so lucky to have two of the greatest tennis players in the modern era grace us with such exciting tennis over the years - whoever wins or loses. if you want to put down one or the other player, maybe some peoplle on this board should go back to playcentre and knock each other about! Get a grip!!

last years masters cup court was really slow.

Exactly. What's sad is so many fans jumping down Fed's throat now (some of them Fed fans) for not winning a match he wasn't expected to win! (and if you expected him to win, sorry but just LOL)

I ain't annoyed at Fed at all. I think it's pretty clear that only from Wimbledon onwards can Fed have real chance of winning titles. So I actually say, screw the clay season, I dont care if he loses first or second rounds there (it's a lost cause anyway), he should actually focus his game on the second half of the season.

Kinda like Sampras did near the end of his career. Gone are the days where Fed can be a force on every surface. Just too old to do that now IMO. BUT I still believe on grass and fast hardcourts he DOES have what it takes. So I'm still really looking forward to the second half of the season.

I just hope this doesn't get the guy down and he realises the he just needs to keep trying and keep giving himself chances. It's gotta click sometime!

Then again, who am I talk about what ROGER FEDERER should do?

Indeed, and you will be disappointed to know that you were wrong.

Man I hope Rafa puts the epic beatdown on Novak, and I AM a Fed fan.

And I say beatdown and not beat him in a good match because I wont be able to watch anyway. So yes, I want a beatdown much like today lol.

I have always liked Nadal even though Federer is my favorite player. I watched him play at Cincy 2 years ago and his game is a sight to behold.

I rooted for him last week at IW as well. Babbette can attest to that statement. :D

Oh I agree. I was rooting for him last week, and was so annoyed that he didn't win. ESPECIALLY after leading by a set, I mean WTF Rafa?

Why in the world do players I support keep losing? lol

I swear that I bring bad luck to players I root for. I walked out for 5 minutes at the end of the first set and came back to see Federer with breakpoints and after that it was all downhill.

ok, that sucked. rafa played well, but fed was at no time in the match after his first service game ! UE after UE, a new low even by his shankastic standards !

oh well, gotta wait for the 'grass season' I guess.

The most disappointing aspect of Fed's play tonight for me is that it just looked like he was going through the motions out there. I saw no fight, or passion. His unwillingness to change his tactics was mind boggling.
