I'm thrilled that this match is actually happening. Used to be common, but quickly became pretty rare. And, even with this match, I don't see Fed and Nadal ever going back to having as many matches as they used to. I'm betting Fed-Nadal matchups are still relatively rare events. So, I'll enjoy it while I can.

It's been so long. I'm really interested to see how it plays out.

Can't believe Nadal pulled a Sampras when he was down 0-40 in the third set and started ripping consecutive aces. Lol. Unreturnable or weak-return serves would be one thing, but actual aces?

Yes, it was impressive in fairness. Even more so as his shoulder was injured.

Federer will have to come out all-guns-blazing as Nadal, even when playing poorly for his standards, is more consistent overall. Federer can blow hot and cold even more than Nadal so Fed will have to keep his arch-nemesis ******** at bay...

Fed in 2, or Nadal in 3. 8)

The worst thing about a Rafa-Rog match up are th 90% *******s that fill the match thread. No one is making excuses. Also Rafa's RIGHT shoulder was hurting, serving is no issue.

After watching rafa tonight in the first set i would say rafa, but after the 2nd set i would say fed. After the 3rd set when rafa finally played a little better+won i would say it is a toss up.

Nah, *******s on some high horse are worse.

Plz, *******s are outnumbered 4 to 1 on here so don't even give me that. No one ever gives Federer greif or trolls his losses, but when Rafa does this place turns upside down with trolls. Rafa fans don't troll Federer match discussion threads either. Go to a Rafa match thread and tell me what you see.

People having fun and not taking themselves seriously?

Are you kidding me? The *********s descend like vultures as soon as Fed loses. Give me a break.

You've gotta be kidding me. The trolling and ****ism goes both ways dude.

Nadal will roast Fed like a turkey you will see.

I'm still worried about Nadal's shoulder. If he recovers properly he will crush Federer tomorrow.

Of course. We already know who the better player is. So if Roger wins it's fair to think that Rafa has some kind of injury/sickness.

I would like to remind the winner of the Stephen Edberg sportsmanship award about one little thing.

Yes, taking 30 seconds between points, getting coached illegally and unnecessary medical time outs are all CHEATING. The only reason Nadal is 14-8 against Federer is because he wasn't called out for his BS sooner. He cheated Federer out of numerous matches in the past too.

Does anyone suppose this is what humbalito will be driving to the match?

Ralph's injuries are about as legit as this:

Why does the universe conspire against this poor sweet prince :(

I hear uncle tony has been pracitising these.

4 pages in and we already have all this garbage. It's not really necessary...unless cassius clay is being serious it leaves just kwanfan's comment, that's "anti Fed". Maybe you are just "having fun" but it breeds obnoxious comments. So don't give BS about it going both ways equally.

Really? Like all 4 of them?

I'm not surprised.

Absolutely it does, there are definitely *********s on here that contribute nothing to the forum. But as I said, they are outnumbered 4 to 1. Not once have I been in a Federer thread that *********s ruined bc he wasn't playing well, it's always disappointed Federer fans. You guys need to take a look at how the flood gates opened in the 2nd set of the berdych match tonight.

Do you see me complaining about all the pictures of Federer crying at the AO? I unlike most people have a sense of humour about stuff like that. If you can't take it, then don't dish it out, as they say.

Outnumbered 4 to 1? Where did you pick that number from? How many times has this picture been posted on this forum?

Federer will win.

Nadal is very up and down these days. It's pretty weird to watch, Nadal is usually constant during a match(whether consistently good or consistently bad) but these days his form varies too much. To go from spanking balls in the first set with Djoker to serving 20% and dumping shots into the net in 2nd and 3rd and now this letdown in the berdych match.

As someone said, I think we are witnessing the birth of the Nadal equivalent of ********

Saint Rafa and his saintly ****s are being victimised :(

By one of the same few people. Are you really trying to say there's anywhere NEAR as many *********s on here? Federer fans outnumber Rafa fans on here about 4 to 1, there was a poll about it a few months ago, the extreme trolls are about relative to this.

letdown in the berdych match? Berdych hit 4 serves in a row that were 130+ in the 2nd set and then started backing it up with the big groundies. Guess what happened in the 3rd set. :)

I sort of agree with this. If Rafa plays his best tennis, he should win, but post US-Open he almost ALWAYS has a level dip in a match, it really is weird and hopefully the clay brings his consistency back like it has the last 5 years.

I'm not feeling Rafa's game at all. I know Birdman started playing better but I see a lot more up and down in Rafa's game than in the past and it isn't something I like. I wonder if that can be enough against a guy like Fed who has only lost to Djoker this year and who is looking better by the match.

But in the past he would lose these types of matches on hard courts, so where would you prefer to be?

I think this depends on Rafa's level and Federer's rest. If this was Saturday i'd feel more confident, but im not sure. I think Rafa in 3, but he's so streaky.

I've started my US Open savings account. Last year I saw Nole vs Rafa and I'm excited to see them this weekend in the final!

Despite the denial of *******s, Federer is now way past his prime, several years already so in fact, and only about 60% the player he used to be and that figure will only drop all the time from here as he continues to age and slow. He is in the same phase of his career as Tiger Woods and Michael Schumacher are in theirs. So given that unmistakable reality I dont think Nadal right now can lose to Federer on any surface anymore, even hard courts, if he is playing his best. Maybe indoors but that is it. So the match is all up to Nadal really.

That doesn't really make sense. Fed beat Nadal within the past several months on HC

Indoors which is Nadal's worst surface by far. It took Federer playing the best tennis he is capable of at this old past his prime athlete phase of his career to barely win. So that is the only surface he could even hope to beat Nadal playing his best right now. Any other including an outdoor hard court, no way.

I speak up for Nadal fans and you come troll away. It's really not that serious man, Federer is doing better than anyone else on tour besides Nadal and Djokovic. I'd say he's pretty good right now.

The Fed fans are in greater number here so therefore they will have the larger troll crowd. But when Nadal wins tomorrow the lack in number will be made up in intensity for the comeback to these awful Fedtrolls.

Tiger Woods? The prime age for golfers is in their 30's....

Oh yeah thats right. Put a tarp over the court tomorrow and Nadal will get claustrophobic and lose.... A slow low bouncing hard court was bad. But fast low bouncing grass is right up his alley.

He is still a pretty good player, but no longer the great player he was in his prime. That is the difference. And I wouldnt say not making a slam final in a year, losing 3 times in a row to Djokovic (regardless how well Djokovic is playing), losing at Wimbledon to someone like Tomas Berdych, and also losing matches to people like Montanes is doing pretty good for a 16 slam winner. Navratilova was still ranked #3 or #4 for years after Graf and Seles opened up a chasm on her too. There are hardly any great players in the present field, the World #4 and #5 are both slamless pretenders, so it isnt a surprise even way way past his prime he is still at #3.
