**** #1 Redondo Talks Thread ****

thanks for the feedback.

Also does the mid play larger than it is? how big is the sweetspot and how forgiving is the racket.

In your opinion would it be more or less demanding than my fxp mp?

Hard to say. I've got both Redondo MID's and MP's. Don't really notice much difference in forgiveness - and I've played with MP sized racquets all my life. Even though the specs wouldn't indicate it, the MID seems to swing a little more head light than the MP, which I like. The MID may be a little less powerful, but more solid and stable feeling. Hard to quantify all this stuff, I just like the feel of the MID a little better and don't seem affected by the headsize.

The MP also has a "woofer" type babolat grommet on the sides that gives the MP some additional pop over the Mid.I agree, you must use a 17 gauge on these frames to get the most out of them. I can rip plenty of spin from either frame, with no issue.

FWIW, I just picked up a 4th mid from one of my hitting partners. She bought two brand new, but doesn't like them that much. (I told her to demo the MP!)

Anyway, I'm breaking it in tonight!

PS- Anyone have any luck getting grip pallets or grommets here in the states?

I bought my first Redondo a week or so ago, used and strung with Technifibre Bi-Phase 17 @ 60. What an awesome racquet! I was having inconsistency issues with my serve, not with the Redondo. Terrific control with this racquet. I ordered another, having it strung with the Bi-Phase Red 17. I was origainally concerned with having a lack of spin with the 18x20, but it seems to have adequate spin.

Add to me to the list of new Redondo devotees.

Different batches??

I've just got another 2 Dondos MP and they seem to have a different paint than my older one. The paint is darker in color and with a more "rubberish" feel compared to the lighter and shiner red one. I was wondering if you guys observed the same thing and if they might be different batches or made in different locations??!!

I've never heard of a "lighter shinier red one" version.

Hi Anirut and All, If you guys are interested in buying Redondo racquets...

Hi Anirut and all,

If you guys are interested in buying Redondo racquets. I have the source. If you are interested but Redondo cannot be found in your country, I can meet your needs. Just send your email enquiry to xube0001@ntu.edu.sg (do not post it here).

Anyway, I will be travelling to Thailand for this month end's Thailand Open.

Anirut: If you are keen to buy, I can bring the Redondo racquets over there to meet you.

First, the glossy one:

Hi Xube,

Thanks for the info, man. I'm mailing you. May be we could meet end of the month.

BTW, you'd better remove you email address mentioned above before the bots get it and junk-fill your mail box.

Hi guys,

I know this guy named Xube. he's sending me a pair of Redondo MID rackets and a tennis bag. I will be getting them in a few days. I'm very impressed with the way he handle the business professionally. The customer service is a topnotch!

I vouch this guy, folks!

TW has new demos in liquidation right now
Thanks man!! Is there any difference between the demos and regular racquets?

Also, Don said that you have a new K-toy and I was wondering if you have any written reviews of it? How does it compared to the Redondo?

The top one definitely does not look right. I don't know what's up, I didn't know there were fake ProKennex racquets out there.

The bottom one is like the one I own.

the guy i got the glossy one from got it like 1-2 years ago from TW

The color on the non-rubberish one sure does look a lot better!

I don't think it's be a fake. This could be some "minor" (if you can call that) difference during the early manufacturing.

At least, hope that's the case...

Mr awd, Don told me that you are going to him now. He's a top notch guy. The demos are brand new, strung. They should be no different than the regular ones. The kfactor is a really fun frame to hit with. Explosive, controllable power for serving and off the ground, but a horribly difficult frame to volley with. It is heavy so I need to adjust my game a bit. I am still using the redondo for work outs and consecutuive playing days, but the wilson is now my match frame. It just wears on my shoulder if I use it too much..

basil you found the K90 hard to volley with? I thought it was a much better volley frame that the redondo seems to have much more inherent "stick" to it.

Yes, I like him! So far two stringing jobs, but I will be back there!!

So, K-toy is also harsh on your shoulder as n-code used to be. Right?

As of the volleys, did you have any issues with it because it is a smaller frame or just because it is a bit heavier?

I will try to demo some of those [K] models (95s and even 90) and see if I am gona have good time with them as well. When I tried n-code 90 last time I was using 98 LM Radical at the time, so any attempt to use such a small frame will be difficult, so I quickly gave up. Now, since I am hitting with the Redondo Mid pretty much 100% (I just couldn't accept an average feel from the backhands with the MP compared to the Mid), it might be easier to deal with the slightly smaller frame. If not then 95s will be tried!

Then fact is that with a tear in TFCC of my wrist and some shoulder problems, I have to be really careful which racquet will be the one to use...

Gentlemen,

Last night I tried out another combination of my freakish mod. This time it's re-foam-filled Redondo with trimmed bumper. (Note: I have tried trimmed bumper without foam before.)

The result? Great! Nice thuddy and headlight.

The foam pellets added back the mass to the racket (otherwise the racket will be lighter due to the trimmed bumper), but distributed the weight all the way from the handle to about the 9&3 area along the shoulders. Beyond the 9&3 up to the head-top, the void is so small that there's only a very small amount of pellets getting in there. I noticed this when I removed the top grommet while the pellets have been filled a week earlier. No (or may be just very few so as to be negligible) pellet fell out of the racket.

The handle has been moded a bit too. Since I got the pallet for the 4 3/8 grip, I'm now using the thinnest Pacific replacement grip plus two overgrips. I lost the bevels a bit but no problem. This made the racket about 11-12 pts HL I think (haven't done a precise measure).

I think I now have my always-sought-after racket. This setup plays about 90+% close to my beloved Dunlop Revelation Tour Series 90. I may have to reduce the tension a bit (now @ 62, nylon, strung 3 hours before play on a constant pull) to make it play easier and a little softer, to close-in on the feel of the Dunlop.

However, last night was my off day as I'd been doing some heavy home-improvement job all day and was a little worn out. Still, I could play decent enough to say that the mod and setup was "just right". My down the line BH's were nice and parallel to the alley. I really did enjoy playing it.

And, importantly, it's a safe Redondo. It's unleaded.

Cheers!

Anirut,

Are you MacGyver in disguise?

I don't think so .. ;)

But there's a little similarity, at least from his role in the movie. McGyver was a physics grad, and I was close. I was a physics major for two years but changed my field later on.

Advertising IS more fun!

Just checking back in here.

I didn't play much this summer due to family responsibilities and have started playing again. I've been using the K90 and the semiwestern is feeling more comfortable now. It provides considerably more flexibility on the forehand, allows for more spin generation and, of course, requires more effort. I do like the grip though my backhand has suffered a little from it due to the longer travel time on the grip change. But that's something that should get fixed with time. I think that I would have been better off with a 95 but I can live with a 90. Some discussed the difference on the volley with the two racquets. I think that depends a lot on how you string the racquets.

I read a bunch of posts and it looks like there are still some PK issues with the Redondos.

One thing that I forgot to mention: I like both of these racquets stock (with overgrip). I've been a tinkerer for quite some time, generally adding a lot of weight and I don't feel a need to return to the old Dunlop barbells.

Hi Mov,

Nice to see you back. Been wondering where've you been.

Son was taking a class ten miles north of where we live, driving classes ten miles south and daughter was taking classes ten miles north. So I was a taxicab driver for the summer. Was also busy at work with projects.

I have one at college fulltime now but am still working out some housing stuff. But my schedule is far less hectic now.

I'm surprised to see that PK still has some issues here and there.

I knew that! I was just saying that next to the K95s I might even try K90 along the way to see how it will feel and compare it to the n-code 90 that I tried year or so ago.

why is there no more 93mid 3/8? any one know when will pk back?

Any one can tell me how long I need to wait for the 93mid 3/8?

Thanks:(

Just checked with PK. That is a previous version of Redondo, only difference is the paint. The new rubberish red paint has better adhesion.

I got two racquets of Redondo (1/4) and it was a fast delivery to my door from Singapore to Australia. I highly recommend that Xube is a reliable guy who take care of the business. You can't go wrong with this guy!

Just felt like sharing...
I LOVE Kirschbaum Pro Line II 1.15 strings in my Redondo Mid.
The strings are super thin which is new to me but wow, this string is comfortable and has great spin. In addition it supplies a good amount of pop and pockets the ball quite well since the ball seems to sink into the string bed a little. Serving a dream also, power and placement. so far I prefer it over gut because there is a high element of control to compliment the power. I highly recommend this string for the Redondo mid since it is a thin string that opens up the dense string bed for comfort and the frame is easy on strings. I don't know how the durability is going to be but so far it's in good shape.
