100+ mph TW club

Watching all these videos I noticed that everyone can spin their racket in their hand (after the serve) a lot faster than I can. I can maybe get 1.5 rotations in.

:(

Lol I watched Federer do it so I'm like "why not." So I tried and after a week or so, it became a habit...happens subconsciously.

Never realized I did it after every single shot until I saw myself on video.

Habit since I was a little kid.

I got 105 mph in a serve speed cage thing today! But I don't know how accurate that is since people around me said I had served faster ones that registered 40 mph:p!

This time I went to the real court at the Rogers Cup to serve and averaged 95mph(on 3 serves) with their horrible racquet. I now believe that my video calculation of being around 103 mph on my previous serves is about right.:D

I've been digging through since I saw the first post, but where exactly is the advice you promised? Other articles, or any from this that can help me get to 100+ ?

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZPJosC8Da4
Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/414527992/08-22-10_100__MPH_Flat_Serves.mp4.html

Did I calculate incorrectly or are these serves actually approaching 110 mph? I've always estimated my flat serves were around 80-90 mph.

For the first serve in the video, I inputted:
Frame rate: 29.97
Distance: 57.5
Number of frames: 12.5

For the second serve in the video, I inputted:
Frame rate: 29.97
Distance: 58.5
Number of frames: 13

thats weird, they dun look anywhere near 110....especially when you can see the serve height declining after the bounce..

No offense to anyone, but I think any number that isn't backed up by a properly calibrated speed gun is pretty worthless. People estimating the speed of their own serves? Trying to 'calculate' speed based on estimations of distance on videos shot by consumer-grade handicams?

How could any of this be taken seriously?

i had my serve clocked a few weeks back at 106mph and the serves in the video i posted were faster than those, so I'm basing it on that.

It was a good serve though. Did you record it or did your friend record it? I wouldn't have noticed the foot fault if it wasn't in the title.

That was actually another friend of mine, we all went up to the park and he had his camera so he recorded some clips of the match for me, he's gonna send more but that was the first one he sent me

???
I have seen 120 mph serves that after the bounce stay at 2ft off the ground...
I am not saying these are 110, but assuming that they should jump 6 ft (or whatever ,unless kicks) is incorrect...

I wish I could serve 100+! I only can get to about 90s someone please give me some advice troubled 16 yr old in need of advice.. ;D

I can only hit around 80-90 MPH slices and 70 MPH kickers, but I can get flat serves in barely over 100 MPH now. It took me about a week to remember how to hit them, but I've pretty much got it down.

Vid to come eventually...

oh sry. I'm just assuming that the serve is flat. If its very flat, theres no reason for it to decline in height unless it moves slow enough for gravity to bring it down.

Ok so I was taping me and my friend during our playing the other day indoors, and I decided to watch back some of the footage and use the FPS to calculate. Since it is in 1080p it is easy to see the lines and count.

First up is my friend, who is 6'6". I know his form for serve isn't great (neither is mine) but with all arm he hit this. I wasn't ready since we were just warming up, so thats why I said ow...my wrist was limp and it bent back hehe.
13.5 frames
60 feet (it was tossed a little inside but he is taller than me by almost a foot, and it paints the return line).
107.12 MPH

Mine is a little tougher because I am not at exactly 100 I don't think. I am 5'7" and about 120-123 lbs so I don't have half the strength he does. I did manage to take my best serve of the match (this one wasn't warm up it was during our playing) and I calculate anywhere from 98-99.5 (100 if I was generous with the ball landing placement).
Mine was about 0.75-1.25 feet in my friend said, and it shows roughly that on the video, so I used 59 feet (I don't toss into the court really, as you can see in video).
At frame 15 the ball is well on its way back up off the court, and at 14 it is almost touching, so I said 14.25 frames
thats 99.51 MPH. IMO not bad considering my height, size, and bad serving posture.

Anyways what do you all think?

BTW I am not using the Speedport anymore, I am using a PDR at 60lbs with half syn/half poly.

99.51?

Next time you go out for serve practice, take a ball fresh out of the can, and pop that sucker in the microwave for 15 seconds, and you will make the club!

Maybe hehe....I don't really go all out often, since I prefer to hit serves around 80-90 mph (higher chance of success for me) but I will try to hit a few. What about my form though? I should definetly adjust toss right?

This is my newest serve! I think I can finally get over 100mph consistently. Thank you to everyone who helped me out!

Not the best of quality, but you can judge the time between contact and sound of it hitting the wall. The end of the video also shows the space behind the court to help with judging the speed.

Nice improvement to you serve, try to get one from the back though, hard to tell this way.

Is that the Carleton bubble you're in?
