12y old kid - Ezone 100L or Ezone 98L

Hi guys,

Have a daughter 12y, hits quite hard and she has been playing with Ezone 105 last 7-8 months, got it as a gift from her aunt, though I asked for a Ezone 100 somehow that 105 arrived. (she's been on Yonex since red balls at age 7)

Now 105 is quite powerful and she can blast lots of winners, but also shanking and mis-hitting quite a lot, so power is not a problem, but more of a control.

Issue is she likes to kill every ball and finish up the point in 2-3 strokes., so thinking of taming her power quite a bit and going for some more controlled racket, and maybe convince her that tennis is not about 100% full power every shot! (getting slowly there)

So I'm thinking to go with Ezone 100L or even Ezone 98L.

They are both at 285gr so strung+overgrip around 300gr.

Would 98L be too hard to play with? I read the normal Ezone 98 reviews that it certainly is a control oriented racket and you need to generate your own power, not sure about the Light version.

For normal Ezone 100 most reviews agree it has quite some power and some control, again not much I can find about Light 100 version.

I can not test any of these where I live, and would need to import them.

Thank you!

Good question. Curious about these as well.

I think the differences between the two come down to a preference in serve/shot types. With that in mind, I don't see a point in deviating too far from what she already enjoys from a racquet; it should play to her strengths as a player, not tamper it.

If she enjoys a more all-court game, flat first serves, likes to come to the net, I think the 98 would feel better. If she likes to hit more spin/variety serves, likes to push opponents around from the baseline, then I think the 100 is better.

@Jahu - As @esgee48 suggested, I would make sure you try higher tension and/or thicker gauge string before just jumping to a new frame. There's also of course some skill progression that could likely go a long way towards solving the control issues as well.

Presuming all of that has already been factored in, and you think moving to a new frame is still in order, I think a 98 may be a step too far down; any boost in maneuverability and control would likely be negated by possibly too concentrated a sweet spot and not enough power. I think a 100 would be a more reasonable move. The EZone 100L is a nice gradual step forward, without being too different: 20g heavier, but only 5-6 points more swing weight and 1.5 pts more head light, so it will feel just about as easy to swing; at the same time, it definitely will give her more control. She should be able to use that effectively for at least 2-3 years, until stepping up to the normal EZone 100, or perhaps a 98 at that point.

Thanks guys, will go with 100L, agree 98 a bit too drastic at this age, maybe later for it.

All the best!
