15L Multi - tension reccommendation

Hello TTW,

Hybrid a 17 gauge solinco Confidential with a 15L Solinco vanquish

Currently using full bed of Confidential at 45 pounds

i love putting the multi in the crosses to add a little softness to my stringbed. but i do pop string veery fast cause i'm an aggressive spin player. now the reason for going with 15L is for the durability
plus for my elbow. can't handle the full bed of poly like i use too.

Any Tension recommendation for a 15L Mult?

I’d say 48-52. If that is too powerful, 56-54. Try it out and would love to hear a report, as I don’t know much about 15l multis.

Vanquish is very springy. I would not string it below 53 in a hybrid or 55 in a FB.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't label Vanquish as "very springy" compared to its peers.

I just used TWU to compare Vanquish 16 (no data on 15L) with Wilson Sensation, Volkl Power Fiber II, TF Multifeel, WeissCannon Explosiv, Prince Premier Control (a decent list off the top of my head).

Vanquish at 160 was right in the middle with PPC, Volkl PF, MF within +/- 2 — Sensation was stiffest at 169, and Explosiv was softest at 151.

If you like the Confidential at 45 lbs and you're keeping it for mains, I would start with something within the ranges of 47-48M/53-55X (lbs).

My rationale is because the whole bed is now softer with half being a multi, bump the mains 2lbs to compensate, but still not move too far along the elasticity curve of the poly (to preserve the feel), and then the Vanquish gets strung about where the other posters said.

I hope it works for you. (I'm a fan of Vanquish, btw, but I typically use it as the mains in a mains/syngut bed.)

Personally, I wouldn't go up in tension on your Confidential as you stated you're having more arm issues than previously. As for the Vanquish, I'd go up to 50, and adjust again next time if you need to.

I agree in 16 and 17 gauge which I pop in 50 min for the 17 and day for 16. They were super pop.

This 15L seem a little lower but a light bit stiffener I think cause the thicker gauge

Thank you,
The reason I won't go higher is because of my elbow. I will probably try 45/42

Thank you, I have 4 clash 98. So I'll string them up as the following:
Main/cross
48/50
48/45
45/42
42/40

Thank you all for your help.cause of my elbow ill keep the tension low. And because of the thicker gauge multi. I think I need to go lower to make it softer like a 16/17 gauge

I'll try this different tension on my four modified clash 98:
Main/cross
48/50
48/45
45/42
42/40

I'll keep you guys updated.

Multis aren't nearly as tension sensitive across different gauges like poly. Don't overthink it.

The measured stiffness difference between gauges is often within the margin of error — I've seen several multis in the TWU database where the smaller gauge measured a point or two stiffer than the next size up.

If you're worried about your arm, go down with the poly. Your crosses will have a certain degree of tension loss due to friction, so they won't be as tight as your mains to start with. Putting a multi in (even if it is a 15L) the crosses at a lower tension than the poly mains doesn't make a lot of sense. But, if you're stringing your own, you're only losing about $10 in string + your time to string them.

If it helps, I always string multi mains and poly crosses and I’ve recently tried 15L at the same tension I was stringing 16 before switching. The string is the same (PP gutex) the only difference was the gauge.

I was expecting a significant increase in durability but it only lasts 1h more. The lower launch angle was much more evident, and the main difference I noted between 16 and 15L multi mains.

I know putting multi as my main makes way more sense. But I pop that in 2 days. I don't want to restring all the time...
