16G vs 17G cyclone

I recently switched from the Yonex V Core 98 (7th gen) version to the Diadem Axis 98. Both rackets have similar specs. I've used Volkl Cyclone 16G for years (at least 10 or more) in all my rackets. When I had the new Axis strung up with my usual set up (16G Cyclone at 46lbs) the combination felt very stiff with no ball pocketing. Almost as if the racket was strung 10 lbs tighter than usual. My question is if I switch to a 17G cyclone am I really going to notice much of a difference or do I need to consider both a thinner gauge and lower tension to notice any difference. When I demo'd the racket it came with Diadem Flash which is a new smooth 1.25 poly. Not much research on this string since it is so new. It pocketed better than the Cyclone but all other factors such as spin, feel, etc were better with the Cyclone. Through research on these forums it appears thinner strings at lower tension should provide better ball pocketing but I've really never used any other string than the 16G Cyclone so I have no idea how to set up the new racket. My thought was to go down to 17G and lower the tension from 46 to 44. I'm a little leery of changing too many factors though. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you provide the RA of your new racquet and the old?

Why did you switch to the Axis 98?

To be honest they are similar rackets, I just thought the Axis did most things just a little bit better, especially in regard to slice and volleys. I tore up my shoulder a few years ago in a motorcycle accident and had to switch to a one handed BH. It seems to really help me with that shot in particular. (which admittedly is my worst shot now.)

I tried my friend’s Axis 98. He asked me what I thought. I told him it was “ok”. Later he asked if I wanted to spend more time with it. I said, “I’m good.”

It’s a good racquet amongst many good and fewer really good racquets currently available. Definitely not one of the great ones. IME, the VCore 98 v7 is a better racquet.
