16X19 Vs. 18X20

How much does it really matter? We all know that 16X19 is more power and spin, and 18X20 is more control, but what other factors come into play? I have heard people say they won't use 16X19 b/c it eats away the strings much faster. I have heard people say they won't use 18X20 b/c it takes away from feel much more. Can you really tell a big difference btw the two? I mean , in the long run how much does it really matter? Is it a matter of personal preference, as in feel or comfort, or does it really affect the play of the frame? Anything else you can tell me about the differences btw the string patterns would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I prefer the 16x19 stringpattern. It 'bites' the ball more & gives my opponents a harder time with dealing with spin & velocity. When it comes to string durability, I string my own racquets so it doesn't affect me as much.

I hit with the n6.1 18x20 and the control was good but I didnt get enough pop on my shots or depth. so I like my open patern...

More open string patterns have less durability, and generally more power, the strings probably move more and can impart more spin on the ball. Does an open pattern have a softer feel than a dense pattern?

Yep, at the same tension, the open pattern does give a softer feel & more power than the dense one, that's why 18x20 users lower their tension by a few lbs to open up the sweetspot & give it more 'bounce'.

18x20 also provides more "ball feel" according to some, but it comes at the cost of a stiffer/firmer stringbed, which i do not prefer on 80% of the rackets out there

16x19 is for spin players. 18x20 for flat hitters. I am a latter. the volkl T10 gen1 mid gives me the accuracy unmatched by any 16x19 rackets.
