Just saw it on espn hollywood. Sampras had an auction for a private tennis lesson at his house, a seat with him at the US Open, and a dinner with him for an AIDS charity. The winning bidder paid 17k. i wish i had won the lottery the day before

If I had a one hour lesson with Pete, I'd definitely have him tell me about his serve. and his volley if we had 2 hours.

So who in the world was the winning bidder, and how in the world did he/she have 17,000 dollars to spare?

I don't know.....$17,000? I'd probably rather put it in the bank to pay for my kid's college.

That's freakin' hilarious!

I bet Pete wouldn't be good at giving a lesson. His advice would be "lob short and head for the pool"

$17,000 doesn't sound like a lot to me considering Federer's racket alone went for $26,665.

For some people, like many of the clients i have, $17K is like when us normal people find a $10 bill in the dryer that we didn't know was there. I swear, so many people in this town have rediculous amounts of money.

For those who will bid five figures on an afternoon with a tennis icon, putting the kids through college isn't really a concern.

yeah. i'd love a lesson with my tennis idol. i'd ask him how to serve and volley as he did, his allcourt game etc.

either that or the person doesn't have kids at all. afterall, this is for charity, so i'm sure that the person didn't feel so bad dishing out that kind of money
