18 racquets

I was at a tennis store near my office and I asked if the Wilson 98s was in stock. He said no, a family purchased all 18 racquets. I have never heard of anybody spending that much money on racquets ever. The player that uses the racquets is a highly ranked junior in the state.

C'mon 18 racquets is just crazy.

Rich family.
Most ranked Juniors get a racket sponsorship, but maybe only for 3-5 rackests maximum.
Go to another store.
Life happens, and you adapt.

1. Is he known for breaking racquets?
2. Is he sponsored?
3. 299 X 18 + tax= $5826.02 (Texas tax)
4. He's lucky, I have trouble finding ONE racquet (that I use) around here..

It's not big deal for me, I just wanted to take a look at the racquet. I always buy my racquets online. The point is 18 racquets, we all adapt to what happens everyday. I pretty sure if Wilson knew that they wanted 18 racquets they would work out a deal. I don't understand buying from a retail store.

Makes more sense to me than some of the guys here who seem to demo that many racquets a month.
My motto is if you really like a frame, I would stock up to at least 10 frames. Sooner or later, your favorite frame will be discontinued. It really is a pain posting ads and scouring the auction sites for them.

Yeah, he's most likely paying $200 per frame. Seems like he got 'ripped off', but it's hiis family's money.

Hopefuuly, he doesn't have a complicated set up. It would be tedious adding lead on all 18 frames..

Does anyone really know the circumstances?
I've heard of a coach buying the entire stock of rackets at a store CHAIN, with the blessing of the rep, who arranged the deal, at a huge discount, that wasn't told to the public buying customer, so he would think the racket's are still worth their retail price.
Confusing? Yes, it's the nature of business.

That sounds possible, He just mentioned that one family purchased 18 racquets. If you are wealthy do really need to buy that many racquets at time?

10? I'd say 5-8 is good enough. I'm actually thinking of getting 2 more of my frames. Especially since they've dropped to $119.

If you have the money, why not?
Tennis racket's are cheapo!
When I was racing motocross on a taxi driver wage, I always had THREE bikes, one new, one less than 6 months, and one over a year old.
When I was seriously surfing, I always owned well over 10 surfboards, although I was a shaper at the time to make some money, half were sponsorship boards.
Year's '83 thru '94, I bought new windsurf boards, slalom, high wind, wave, every single season, got two sets of sails (5 sizes) each season, and new booms and masts every season. I worked at a windsurfing shop.

Grip size?? I assume that the entire stock consisted of all the grip sizes so why would he buy all of them? Bizarre.

There's probably not only one high ranked junior player in the family.
Very big family with lots of high ranked juniors of all ages and gripsizes.
Sort of like the Daltons. There you have it. Must be the explanation.

This is a good call here methinks - good explanation!

Multiple players, same racquet keep it simple

Who would pay $100 over retail, and in bulk at that?
If they actually knew people from Wilson, the player could have gotten a better deal. The pro shop made over $5000 from that sucker...

About bulk, I would. It's a pain looking around to purchase the frames that aren't available anymore...

If they just logged into tenniswarehouse they would've saved $1800 + tax. No need to know anyone from Wilson. Or gone to any reputable tennis shop for that matter. Never heard of anyone paying $100 over retail for a readily available tennis racquet.

I find it difficult to believe they paid full retail for the racquets. A pro-shop can sell racquets for whenever they want--they just cannot advertise it.

That does not make any sense. Why would a store have 18 racquets in stock with same grip size? especially child/junior size? They should have all grips in stocks. Why would you buy 18 racquets, all with different grips? I bet some of them will be coming back in a week or two.

Who says they were all the same. perhaps they only had 1/4 and 3/8. If a pro-shop owner knows their customer base well they will only stock sizes they sell or sell readily. They can always order in a less requested grip-size and have it within a few days. It is not uncommon at all for juniors who are siblings to use the same racquet.
