What? A player who had never been inside the top 100 defeating a player who is not playing well lately but is still inside the top 10? And doing it in straights? I'm sorry, but very few people imagined it would have been like this.“Stuns” lol. I’m sorry but anybody who’s been following tennis knew this was the outcome. Maybe Rublev grabs a set some other time. He is old property on the way out. Fonseca is seen as a generational talent.
Least shocking upset of the tournament outside of maybe Michelsen beating Tsitsipas (which is equally unshocking).

You should have done it but talkers only bark, they don't act.Michelsen at +120 and Fonseca at +140 to start were absolute steals along with Fearnley at -110. I should have parlayed these ugh.
Lol it was so obvious it was gonna happen. I told my buddies before it happened that it would. Rublev has been perennially underperforming for months and is down to #9, plus has anger problems. Fonseca is up and coming and on absolute fire. I would be shocked if Rublev got a set. What? Clown
The likes of Vive (i.e Roger fans) probably giving sly winks and nodding heads now as that generation of Rublev and Tsitsipas et al is starting to get exposed for the joke generation many Federer fans kept going on about. The wait has finally ended. An ode to the GOOD TENNIS! @vive le beau jeu !![]()
#9 not getting a set against a player outside the 100 is supposed to be expected? OK.Lol it was so obvious it was gonna happen. I told my buddies before it happened that it would. Big words then. I thought it was going to be backhand to backhand. But it was mostly FH-FH and he came up on top.Carlos said in an interview today that when he practiced with Fonseca, the Brazilian was ‘killing’ him in FH-FH rallies. So he said that when he heard he was playing Rublev, Carlos thought it would be a tough match for Rublev. It sounded like he thought Rublev would want to rally FH-FH as he does usually, but he thought Fonseca would do better in those rallies than Rublev.

Who was he beating before? It was the first time beating someone of Rublev's caliber. It was no big surprise to those who follow tennis closely. He is a huge talent and showed what he’s capable of in 2024 Rio. This year so far he is 13-0 and hasnt dropped a set.
Rublev is extremely one dimensional while Fonseca has many options. He also has a bigger serve and FH than Rublev when comparing main weapons. We saw what happened.

Yes, this always a concern when stepping into a slam match vs. an experienced player, but the WAY Fonseca was winning (barely being challenged at all in sets let alone matches) showed that he would be difficult to defeat as he was riding a wave of confidence. You usually won’t see an 18 year old ranked in the 100s being only a +140 dog playing against a top 10 player with years of experience.Who was he beating before? But challengers ain't slams. And a practice set isn't the same as the real deal. Berdych supposedly won lots of practice sets against Fedal. However I'm very impressed that supposedly João was beating Rublev as far back as 2023 in a practice scenario! And that Rublev supposedly didn't like the practice because João was hitting too hard lmao.He destroyed Fils and beat Garin also last year. He has also beaten Rublev in practice sets.
Again, not surprising he won. If you were shocked by it somehow then maybe pay attention to what is going on in the Challengers and behind the scenes.
Top 25 by the end of the year? Top-20 for meTop 25 by the end of the year? Thoughts?

It’s not like Rublev had the advantage in any rally pattern.Carlos said in an interview today that when he practiced with Fonseca, the Brazilian was ‘killing’ him in FH-FH rallies. Then that's another thing he has in common with Sinner and Alcaraz lolNo one is talking about The Fonz’s biggest weapon which is not his FH it’s his Kandy level fist pumping. After just about every single point he wins you get a big fist pump.![]()
