OK, since people have found comparisons of 2024 Jannik Sinner to the Big 3 in their primes to be ridiculous (which I can understand to some extent), I have decided to choose Pete Sampras instead, who is obviously lesser than the Big 3.
I think that Sampras' best run at the AO was in 1994, and his semi-final match was particularly outstanding. As for Sinner, well, we only have his 2024 AO run so far, and his level in the semi-final was also extremely good.
With that being said, who prevails in the encounter? Now, keep in mind that we are only taking into account their respective semi-final match performances, not their overall form throughout the AO.

My personal pick would be Sinner in 3. I think he would break Sampras' serve almost every time, while holding his own service games pretty comfortably. But what do you guys think?

Sampras in the 1994 Australian Open SF was arguably his best slow hard court performance ever. He straight setted Courier, who had won 19 straight matches at the Australian Open, taking the title in 1992 and 1993. Sampras had 40 winners against only 16 unforced errors, and his movement was incredible. Sampras likely takes this in straight sets. At best, Sinner pushes this to a tiebreaker or two, but I don't see how he does better in a breaker than he did against the version of Djokovic he played.

Do you think that 1994 Sampras could have also defeated 2011 Djokovic at AO?

Lendl, 33 years old and in the final season of his career, pushed Sampras to two tiebreakers in the fourth round of that edition of the Australian Open.
How would Sinner fare if he had faced that version of the Czech?

Sinner in 4. Sinners level on that day would have surprised Sampras, who could be vulnerable in those conditions. I was a huge fan, but Sampras had a bit of an ego and did not always bring his best level against opponents he expected to beat more or less clearly. Sinner 2024 did not have the status that Courier/Agassi had ... guys that brought out the best version of Sampras, since he was always eager to prove that he was the top top guy ...

The OP stated: "Now, keep in mind that we are only taking into account their respective semi-final match performances, not their overall form throughout the AO." Sampras had some hiccups earlier in the tournament, including scraping by baby Kafelnikov, 9-7 in the fifth set. But he was lights out in the SF.

Trying to think of a single time that prime Sampras didn't bring his A game to the SF of a Major. Coming up empty.

Ehh Sampras was too much in ‘94 for any player today. He probably wins a calendar slam or two today if he stays healthy. His only weakness was clay (which he wasn’t even bad on from 92-96) . And how the clay field looks today?? BWAHAHA

Pete Sampras, at the peak of his career, lost to Austrian journeyman Gilbert Schaller in the first round of Roland Garros 1995.

One bad year. But lost to Agassi, Bruguera, courier, kafelnikov (all RG winners) in the quarters/semis the other years who are better on clay than the guys today. So I’m sure Pete no doubt wins an RG today. probably 2 actually

Peak Bruguera from RG 1993 vs 36 years old Djokovic from RG 2023, who wins?
:D

Love me some Sinner and I think he will dominate the sport of tennis if his stays good and healthy. . But I’m old enough to have witnessed the Big 3 and Sampras-Agassi’s all at their respective peaks over the last 30 years and I can safely say sinner has no shot ( as of now from what is have seen) that would make me think sinner could ever beat this guys at their peaks. Not now. He’s got no shot. None whatsoever. In fact he wouldn’t win a set against them at their peaks

Of course, this isn’t sinners best level yet. But from what what I have seen. No he couldn’t handle any of them at their peaks. He just isn’t on the Big 3 and Pete and Agassi’s level. They are a cut above these mere mortals as of now

He’s a great player but he isn’t there yet. If he does get there I don’t know. It’s impossible if he has a nagging injured hip.
