this thread has some nice nuggets about Iga
ROLAND GARROS 2020 - HISTORY WAS MADE
Iga won her first career title and became first player from Poland to win a Grand Slam singles title. Ranked #54, Iga became the first teenager to win RG in 28 years. It was just her 7th slam appearance.
Roland Garros 2022 - Iga entered the tournament as a huge favourite on a 28-match winning streak. Everyone expected her to win her 2nd RG and... that's exactly what she did! She dealt with the pressure and lifted Coupe Suzanne Lenglen for the 2nd time in her career (title #6).
Wimbledon 2022 - Iga's loss to Alizé Cornet in R32 ended her 37-match winning streak, the longest WTA winning streak in 25 years. For 4,5 months, Iga won matches across three continents, seven countries and eight cities, capturing six straight titles.
2022 WTA year-end #1! For the first time in her career Iga finished the season in the top spot, becoming the 15th player overall. In 2022, Iga won 67 matches (8 titles) and amassed the second-most year-end ranking points with 11,085 since the WTA rankings were introduced.
Happy b'day, iga!!
