Remember to keep your weight forward (ie. don't be falling back as you hit), make sure your footwork is good, and that you are getting in the right position so you can hit out in front. Try to recognize that you will have to hit a backhand early and get prepared so you don't get rushed/jammed and flail at the stroke.
You could also try watching some of the top pro one-handers, I did and my backhand evolved into a Gasquet-ish stroke, especially on the backswing. But my stroke is much better now.
