1hbh vs 2hbh (topspin) - why do I find it easier to hit high balls with 1hbh?

I feel like with the 2hbh, the stroke is more compact, and if you're hitting a kick serve or very loopy ball above shoulder height, the stroke is almost finished by the time it gets that high, therefore there is not much range of motion left in the stroke to brush up on the ball and topspin it back.

With the one hander I can topspin the high balls back because the stroke is longer and can finish much higher than with the 2hbh. Therefore there is room in the stroke to brush up on the ball.

Why is it said that 2hbh is much better for high balls? Are you meant to hit the high balls very flat with the 2hbh - sort of muscle it back flat with a downwards slapping motion?

If it helps you understand my problem, with the one hander I use extreme eastern grip (same as semi-western 1hbh grip), with the 2hbh, I use extreme eastern 1hbh grip on the right hand and western forehand grip on the left hand.

If the ball has already bounced high, you have better reach for the ball with the 1HBH, and your extreme backhand grip helps you, just as it did for Justine Henin.

What Djoker has demonstrated by his dominance over Rafa this year is that the real key is to take potentially high bouncing balls to the backhand, and instead of letting them bounce high, hitting them "on the rise".
This allows him to stay more forward into the court, cutting down on the time Nadal has to get to the ball, and cutting down on his own recovery time and getting stuck out wide to his backhand side.

Potentially you, or Fed, could take the ball on the rise with a 1 HBH. But it is hard against the quality looping forehand of Nadal.

With the two hander, you are probably locking your wrists/elbows and not being flexible enough in the arms. It may also help you to take the raquet back higher.

I hit high balls above my head to the bh with a slice. I have more range of motion, and it's easier to time the ball and generate pace, with one hand on the racquet. I take the racquet back and drop the racquet head below my hand with the butt facing the top of the far fence. Then I suppinate my forearm to accelerate the racquet in to the ball and then slice down and across and finish high at about 2:00 O'Clock.

Look at the short pros hitting high backhands.
They all LEAN into their shots, body sideways, and exxagerate the lean until the ball goes down enough to just clear the net, no higher.
That's for 2hbh.
For 1hbh, you can keep posture more, or even lean back a bit and use a high followthru.
