I am a tennis newbie. Is there any chance of obtaining tickets to the Men's Finals using tickemaster and/or from the USOPEN.org website once individual tickets are released to the general public?

I am in Virginia and would only be able to travel to New York the weekend to attend the finals on 9/10/06. The US Open website lists something like "mini plans" that they are taking deposits for but I dont really want to spend $400 to purchase a bunch of tickets I can't use just to get a ticket to the finals.

Any suggestions or am I hoping for the impossible? i really have no clue how hard it may be to get finals tickets (i dont care if I have to sit in promenade) or how much to expect to spend.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks! :p

I can't answer your question directly, but can give a bit of unsolicited advice based on my experience last week while attending the Pacific Life Open.

The PLO does not have "ground passes". I wanted to watch some doubles, which are held on the back courts. To get in, you have to purchase a ticket in the grandstand show court. The least expensive tickets are at the very top of the stadium.

We spent most of our time on the outer courts and the practice courts, however, we did go into the stadium to eat our lunch. These seats are so high up that you really cannot recognize the players on the court, (well, I suppose you could by the way they move and their physical stature). You are also very far away. Sort of like being in a blimp looking down, almost straight down on the proceedings.

Based on that, I would never pay the extra expense for a seat at a final that is in the upper levels. The tickets for a final cost a whole lot more than the the same seat in the early rounds. You will be able to get a better sense of a match by watching it on television.

Just my opinion.
