2007 Biggest Loser Contest

OK, who among us loses the most league matches? Bonus points for anyone who is just as bad in 2007 as 2006.

I think I am the hands-down favorite to be declared Biggest Loser. The rest of you people do not stand a chance against me.

I have played 10 doubles matches so far in 2007.

Six were 6.5 combo. I won two.

Four were 7.0 mixed. I won one.

This give me a 2007 winning percentage of 30%.

2006 was even worse. I played 10 doubles matches and 1 singles match.

Four were 3.0 matches. I won zero.

One was 3.0 singles. I lost.

Six were 5.5 combo. I won three. That makes my 2006 win percentage 27%.

Beat that, if you can.

Cindy -- now having a clearer understanding why captains will not invite her onto their teams without a tryout

I'm 5-10 so far this year. That's what? 33% I'm almost as big a loser as you :)

Whoa forgot to count last night's match so that makes me 5-11. 31.25%

Are we counting defaults and withdrawals?? If we are then I'm 9-11

In my book you have made significant progress. You went from 27% playing 3.0 and 5.5 combo to winning 30% at a higher level of 7.0 and 6.5.

So far I'm 0-0. First mixed doubles match is 4/22.

I guess we begin our league season a little later than most. Who knew?

I'm 16-2 w/l sets in current night comp, 18 sets left in the season. Unfortunately my team has only won twice..
I went 23-17 and 20-16 the previous seasons.

I went 4-3 w/l rubbers and 5-2 8 game sets saturday comp. All rubber loses were in close 3 sets. My team has been dropped two grades. Teams we narrowly lost too of less than 10 games have been move up 2 grades. Now there's 4 grades difference. Lol what a joke grading, not even worth playing simply because of the whinging i'll get from opposition. :<

I'm just counting for the year 2007 so far. These have been HTA leagues so far. USTA starts around the same time.

You people will have to lose big to give me a run for my money. We have our first team match on Sunday. I have five singles players; four are away.

This means *I* have to play No. 1 singles, with my non-existent approach shot and unfortunate tendency to cough up short balls.

I'll get that win percentage down below 30% sooner than you think! :)

Can I nominate a guy I know? He is in denial about his ability level. He thinks that he used to be a 5.0 and that he is a 4.5 now. But in reality, he's more like 3.5, even though he plays a ton of matches.

He enters 4.5 tournaments and gets double bageled routinely. And he now enters 4.0 tournaments and plays in a 4.0 league, but he loses 90% of matches without winning more than 1 game. Every now and then he gets a competive match or even steals a win just because he runs into another poor soul playing at a level over his head. I think by playing enough 4.5 matches he is able to somehow keep his computer rating from dropping below 4.0.

I have to restrain myself from posting a link to his league record for the last 3 years, since that would be cruel.

Cindy you are not afraid to play up against competition as you improve and that is a huge plus for you. When I first started playing 4.0, I went a couple years without a win (7 losses in a row) even though I was dominating at 3.5 not losing until the finals of sectionals in 2003. Hang in there and keep fighting and gaining experience as you play better players. Eventually you will start winning more! I love to win as much as you, but it's better to just focus on steadily improving your game than on individual wins and losses. Try to learn from your losses!

This year I am 3-2 in 4.0 play and 2-0 in 4.5 play!!!!

Did you not see my record? I'm right there with you :). My summer is going to be sporatic and I'll be giving mixed a try for the first time. Be prepared to see my record plummet.

Got any more room on your roster? ;)

LOL ... I may know the same guy. What I really love is what this guy does to the NTRP rating of others.

accountability

Cindy,

All of this accountability is making me nauseous. You've got to learn the fine art of making excuses. Here, I'll give you some examples:

1.) Your partner. She sucked, right? Even if she didn't, we can still pencil her in for half the losses while still keeping all of the wins in your column. That instantly raises your win percentage from 27% to 54%!

2.) The sun. It was in your eyes. You know it was.

3.) The wind. Of course it's going to effect your baseline game more than your opponents, who played a serve and volley game. Totally unfair.

4.) Injuries. I like to wear a knee brace even if there's nothing wrong with me. A built-in excuse! I might add an ankle or wrist brace for the upcoming season. If you're wearing enough body armor then you deserve a moral victory despite the actual score.

Remember, if you perform enough mental gymnastics no loss can ever be laid at your feet! I recommend supplementing your Real Record with a "Should-a-Been" record which represents how the matches would have turned out if items 1-4 had gone in your favor (hint: that record will be your total matches played, followed by a dash, and ending with a zero).

Keep your chin up

Oh, hey. I have a new excuse for today's lame performance.

I repeatedly whiffed the ball on my groundstrokes today. See, my contact lenses are all messed up, so I wore my glasses. Which are about six years old and have the wrong prescription. I would reach out to hit a groundstroke, and the ball simply wasn't there.

So file that in the Excuses Bin, whydoncha?

No, no, no. That's a legitimate excuse. I recently went from glasses to contacts and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn during my first practice session. You can be more creative than that. When you get your contacts back, tell your teammates that you had Lasik surgery and now all light sources have a huge halo around them. That's a built-in excuse for every single night game you'll ever play for the rest of your life! And get a knee brace for the day games.
