Haha. Yes Zverev, but the Thiem machine rolling up Mannarino at the moment 6-1. Mr. Z has done all 3 setters this week, so tomorrow may not be the break through win.... and 4 now![]()

Pouille just made final in Bucharest at a young 22. Thiem of course won 3 titles at age 21 last year. Not teens, but close enough these days.
Interesting. So unless there's a teenager quarter-finalist at RG 2016, that will mean just four teenage Slam quarter-finalists in the 40 most recent Slams (so 4/160 quarter-finalists teenagers). And only one of them 18 or younger. (Kyrgios and Gulbis were 19 when they made their QFs, Tomic was 18).
Tomic has really stalled since his breakout GS QF and tour title. Perhaps he's starting to move forward again recently, but he's 23 and a third now.
And can you, through the kindness of your heart, allow Rafa to win his La Decima at this year's French Open ? And not allow any youngster, or any other to win it, and delay the prophetic message of this thread. Just for this year, heh ? ...........![]()
So Thiem vs Zverev youngest Final since?Well when you think Becker and Chang were Slams winners at 17 yo....![]()
ummmh... maybe wawrinka-djokovic in 2006 (umag) or djokovic-nadal in 2007 (IW) ?So Thiem vs Zverev youngest Final since?
Yes.0/5 now...... is it really over ?![]()
As people have pointed out, teens don't do that well anymore, period. Here are the 21 youngest slam winners:Teens will not do as well again as they did in the 1980s for quite a while, I think.
It's worse when you count repeats:As people have pointed out, teens don't do that well anymore, period. Here are the 21 youngest slam winners:

The most amazing thing: Borg is #12 on the list as youngest for his THIRD slam!Lots of maiden slam winners aged 20. Let's hope 2017 is the year for the next one.
The first of his Wimbys...he would probably have been #12-13 were it not for WTT.The most amazing thing: Borg is #12 on the list as youngest for his THIRD slam!
Can you imagine that? Someone can't play a slam because of WTT? People who have only watched tennis for the past couple decades have no idea how different things were then. And also it was lonely back then. Top players did not travel with a whole support group of players, some of whom were close to the same age. I think the loneliness more than anything else got to Borg...The first of his Wimbys...he would probably have been #12-13 were it not for WTT.
the "void streak" is broken for finals (thx to coric and fritz) but we're still waiting for a teenage tournament winner !
(fritz ? zverev ?...)
here is the youngest "winning meat" we had since nishi/delpo/cilic, according to the ATP website:

as regards slams, kyrgios already did something relatively rare by reaching multiple slam QFs as a teenager.
(since djokovic at RG 2006, the only other teen-QFs were gulbis at RG 2008 and tomic at W 2011)
That's an insane stat.just read this on the ATP website:
"1st teen in an ATP Masters 1000 QF since Gulbis at 2008 Cincinnati"
(about coric, after he denadalized the draw)
http://www.atpworldtour.com/en/news/nadal-coric-berdych-cilic-cincinnati-thursday-2016
Sewretch would have booted N*dull out of his Real Slam today. I'll be surprised if he plays USO after this debacle. His whole arm is falling off from wrist to shoulder. That's an insane stat.
Coric's a snooze, but the sturdy boot launching his opponent to Finland is laudable.![]()
Denis as well!felix will soon make us forget about this 2008-2016 period...![]()
ask tour veteran kyrgios about it !Denis as well!
Hope he gets to face Karlovic once, that way a player from the 2000s wil have played a player from the 70s!felix will soon make us forget about this 2008-2016 period...![]()
i like your "stat freak fantasy" !Hope he gets to face Karlovic once, that way a player from the 2000s wil have played a player from the 70s!
No love for The Worm, also a 70's creation???Hope he gets to face Karlovic once, that way a player from the 2000s wil have played a player from the 70s!
6th final now... but i'd like stan to achieve the cold war slamWe will need @vive le beau jeu ! to bump his long drought thread with anticipation of a possible end to this embarrassing statistic.
A bit late for him when he won Nottingham last year.istomin?
lol
the drought is over not only for finals but also for titles now...
But Dominik is still in his Thiems thoughInteresting that it is such a rare thing nowadays. Every single member of the current top 10 (apart from Thiem) won their maiden titles while still in their teens!
I believe Wawrinka and Raonic were in their 20's before winning at ATP level...Wawrinka, age 21, at Umag'06 (Tjovic retired due to fatigue in the finalInteresting that it is such a rare thing nowadays. Sewretch was 51 when he first won a game in a match where he lost 6-0, 6-1 to a truck driver Randy Overhead in the Southern Cali 3.0 league qualifications round. Quite an achievement if you ask me, especially with that kind of forehand.I believe Wawrinka and Raonic were in their 20's before winning at ATP level...Wawrinka, age 21, at Umag'06 (Tjovic retired due to fatigue in the final) and Raonic, age 20, at San Jose'11.
but he already "broke through" the previous year... winning his 4 first titles as a 19 years oldI can't look at 2009 as a drought year when 20 year old DelPo won a slam.
The drought really started in 2010.
