* Player of the Year
Its gonna be Nadal this year

* Most Improved Player
Del Potro for sure

* Breakout Player
this is gonna be tsonga or simon..

* Most Disappointing Player
Ferrer and a bit of roddick at wimbledon.

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)
Hmm hard one to say, its gonna be from the USO tho, maybe federer vs djokovic or fededer vs murray

* Match of the Year (Best of 3)
This might also be Fededer vs Murray at shanghai, other choices would be Roddick vs Djokovic at dubai.

* Best grand slam
USO

* Best tournament
too many to say.. japan open or dubai maybe?

* Most Inspiring OR Shocking OR Unexpected OR Funny Moment
tsonga qualifying and having to win paris to do it, And Roddick finally beating federer again for most inspiring.

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)

The wimbledon final has been cooked, 2 years in a row. Both times needlessly stretched to five sets, last time by Fed, this time by Nadal.

Fed vs Murray at Shanghai was pretty good.
Edit: Fed vs Tips was a gr8 match.

* Player of the Year

Nadal

* Most Improved Player

Del Potro (from 50-something to 9!)
Though Andy Murray is also someone to consider.

* Breakout Player

Tsonga
Or maybe Simon, who beat the Big three this season.

* Most Disappointing Player

Gasquet. Nalbandian was similarly dissapointing.

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)

Federer-Tipsaravic stands out for me.

* Match of the Year (Best of 3)

Murray vs. Federer in The Masters Cup.
or...
Djokovic-Nadal at Hamburg.

* Best grand slam

Let's see..

Australian had...

Baghdatis-Safin
Baghdatis-Hewitt
The Tsonganator
Federer losing in the semi-final in a high quality match
Roddick-Kolhschrieber

French was kinda boring this time...
Nadal, while amazing, killed the competitiveness out of the Slam.

Nalbandian sucked...Federer was quite off though he made the final...
Davydenko lost to Ljubicic...quite pathetic..
Djokovic was destroyed by Nadal after showing so much promise in Hamburg.

So it's definitely not Roland Garros.

Wimbledon? Hmm Federer had no competition until the final..

We had Gasquet-Murray of course...but not much else..
It was good to see Safin play well..

A most amazing final but not too much before that I can remember.

I missed the US Open...

Was it any good?

Was good to see Federer bounce back...Roddick-Gulbis sounded like a nice match...

I think I 'll go with
The Australian Open

* Best tournament

Queen's?

We had some great matches there...

Nadal-Djokovic (even though it was straight sets)
Nadal-Karlovic
Nalbandian-Gasquet

* Most Inspiring OR Shocking OR Unexpected OR Funny Moment

Hmm maybe the display of Federer and Nadal's wills at the Wimbledon Final?

Federer - Tipsarevic comes to mind.

* Best tournament
Queens

* Most Inspiring OR Shocking OR Unexpected OR Funny Moment
Have to admit - Murrays backhand pass Vs Gasquet at wimbledon, landing on the billboard egging the crowd on was very nice to watch, the crowd (i was at that match) were really involved and felt really proud watching him play

* Player of the Year
Rafael Nadal, 2/4 slams with no other 2-slam winners ends the discussion.

* Most Improved Player.
Andy Murray?

* Breakout Player
Novac Djokovic for his AO win.

* Most Disappointing Player
Marat Safin? But wouldn't that be almost an annual affair?

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)
Well, excluding that match kind of makes it tough...Federer-Tipsarevic AO.

* Match of the Year (Best of 3)
Fed-Nadal Monte Carlo or Hamburg.

* Best grand slam
USO... Wimbledon final was great, but the surface has been *******ized; the USO is now the fastest surface, and most interesting to watch IMHO.

* Best tournament
Shanghai Year Ending Masters Cup

* Most Inspiring OR Shocking OR Unexpected OR Funny Moment
Most shocking: Safin beating Djokovic at Wimbledon; or maybe Federer losing 3-0 and 6-0 in the final set at the FO.

Most inspiring: Federer almost coming back from 2-sets down at Wimbledon; not getting down on himself after being down 2-sets love. Nadal not getting down on himself after failing to win the match in sets 3 or 4.

Most funny: Can't remember any, but I know there were plenty.

Player of the Year: Nadal.

Most Improved Player: Del Potro (Nadal gets honorable mention on grass)

Breakout Player: Simon

Most Disappointing Player: Roddick

(I'll skip best matches)

Best Slam: Wimbledon (If it weren't for the epic final match, Fed's run at the USO would win)

Best Tournament: I liked Paris before the injuries

Funniest Moment: Mikhail Youzhny owning himself in the face with his racket (youtube vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fi-CgSO9Evw)

From ATP:

* Player of the Year - Nadal

* Most Improved Player - Murray, Del Potro

* Breakout Player - Del Potro

* Most Disappointing Player - I expected more from Baghdatis, Ferrer, Nalbandian.

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final) - I cannot exclude Men's Wimbledon final.

* Match of the Year (Best of 3) - Djokovic vs Nadal

* Best grand slam - Australia Open I think.

* Best tournament - Hamburg maybe.

* Most Inspiring OR Shocking OR Unexpected OR Funny Moment:
Some individual perfomances from Tsonga (unexpected for me) and specially Djokovic (expected).
Nadal's perfomance at RG final, never seen something like that in a GS final.

For the most shocking moment, I have to agree with that of Youzhny smashing himself with the racket.

* Player of the Year
No doubt it's Nadal.

* Most Improved Player
Del Potro or Murray

* Breakout Player
Tsonga, Del Potro, or Simon

* Most Disappointing Player

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)
Hmm, it's a toughie. Perhaps the Murray Gasquet Wimbledon QF (?).

Either Djokovic/Nadal Hamburg SF or Murray/Federer RR. (I didn't see the RR match of Fed/Murray though)

* Best grand slam
US Open

Overall Nadal, with extra credit for unification of clay and grass crowns and utter clay butchery during RG: scariest pwnage of the year. Honorable mention to Tsonga's exquisite fantasy tennis during AO and Paris.

Couldn't watch Fed-Murray at Shanghai. Nadal-Djoko at Hamburg was great. Federer-Nalbandian and Almagro-Andreev at MC.

Federer's down the line backhand winner at match point in the 4th set tie break of the Wimbledon final

I can't believe I didn't think of this as one of my immediate choices (that shot still gives me chills when I watch it). I was thinking of Federer finally winning a gold medal in the Olympics (even if it's 'just in doubles') after years of disappointment.

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)
Why exclude it? Any other one pales in comparison, and there were some extraordinary ones.

Match of the Yr (3 sets) - definitely Murray - Fed in Shanghai. I was (fortunate enough to be) there and see it live - the intensity rivaled a Slam final from the 1st ball. Fed fighting off all the break points in the 3rd set; Murray eventually getting the break and closing it out.

Nadal for the French/Wimbledon; Olympic Gold, and his amazing clay court streak.

* Most Improved Player

Murray, for finally getting over the hump and beating Nadal and Djokovic for the first time.

* Breakout Player

Simon and Tsonga, but mostly Simon, because we all knew what Tsonga was capable of, but Simon came out of nowhere.

Nalbandian, because his end of last year seemed to carry the promise of momentum, instead he went away. Gasquet, didn't build on any momentum from years past and seemed rather stagnant in 2008 except for the first two sets at Wimbledon. Blake, who also seemed to regress.

* Match of the Year (Best of 5, excluding Men's Singles Wimbledon final)
