Why are you surprised to see Roddick at 6?he is the 6th best player in the world, and also more likely to go a long way than Ferrrer and Davydenko.Or do you just dislike the man for no apparent reason? like some other geeks on here

Exactly - i thought he would be seeded 4!

Other than that - just chill

Man, why is Baghdatis & Berdych in front of Murray when the world rankings are:
Murray: 11
Berdych: 19
Baghdatis: 25

Whoever made the seedings is pretty dumb. Cmon, Murray will destroy both of them if he plays them! Dont even think that their better than Murray!

I remember the formula being posted once, does anyone have it? because I can't see how Roddick would be behind both of them.

You know there's an actual formul to determine wimby seeds? They don't just pick who they like the best

Expected seeding.

Yea i know, seems strange though that a guy like Davydenko that never got anywhere in WImbledon and chose to play a claycourt event in Poland is seeded before Roddick.

It's you who are dumb here, and obviously have a comprehension and reading problem, and this surely must be your first Wimbledon to watch. So,next time before you start complaining and whining about the unfairness of the world, take a look at the posts above you.

It is : (Ranking points + Grass points in past 12 months + 75% of best tournament in previous 12 months)
Go ahead and calculate if you really believe the Wimbledon organisers got it wrong....

It's very simple actually, his grasscourt results don't give him enough points to overcome Kolya's ranking points.

ok i'm going to sound really clueless but I don't understand Wimbledon seedings. Aren't they based on ranking?:???:

Wimbledon does not seed by rank; they have a committee who determines the seeds. I think all tournaments should be seeded by rank and use a 128 draw. 1 plays 127, 2 plays 126, etc... Only fair way, but for some reason Wimbledon feels ranking do not matter on grass and they place players.

Few years back Roddick made it to the final and never played a top 20 player. As Johnny Mac said Roddick always seem to get favorable draw!

Ok I am posting this for the third time, but people are obviously too lazy to look around in other threads.

http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/articles/2008-06-17/200806171213733279296.html

The seedings for the 2008 Championships will be announced by the AELTC on Wednesday 18 June.

32 players will be seeded in the men's and ladies' singles. These will be the top 32 players on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP) and the WTA Tour ranking.

Men's Singles

The men's singles ranking is arranged on a surface-based system to reflect more accurately the individual player's grass court achievement as per the following formula:

ESP points as at a week before The Championships
Add 100% points earned for all grass court tournaments in the past 12 months
Add 75% points earned for best grass court tournament in the 12 months before that

Ladies' Singles

For the ladies singles, the seeding order follows the ranking list, except where in the opinion of the Committe, the grass court credentials of a particular player necessitates a change in the interest of acheiving a balanced draw.

I agree that Ferrer before Roddick is a little shocking. Actually it doesn't seem to me like they changed anything to the regular rankings...

Just a correction - it's

(Ranking points + Grass points in past 12 months + 75% of best GRASS tournament in the 12 months before that)

[edit] Oh, oops, I was too late, the original from the wimbledon site was already posted before then. [/edit]

That's it exactly. There are not enough grass court tournaments to really weight the seeds especially when guys have large amounts of ranking points as a base. That's why you see dramatic jumps for guys with fewer ranking points, because if they play a few grass events and do well, they can boost their seeding formula output.

Because Baghdatis and Berdych both have significantly better grasscourt results over the past 2 years than Murray.

Essentially, all the seeding formula does is weight grasscourt events more heavily than the other events. Thus, people who have done better on grass in the past two years are boosted, such as Baghdatis, who last year made the final of a grasscourt event (losing to Federer) and made the quarterfinals of wimbledon, and got to the semis of wimbledon the year before that. (As compared to Andy Murray, who didn't play a single grass-court match last year, who got to the wimbledon 4th round two years ago).

Wimbledon changes their seedings depending on how you have done in past Wimbledon's. I myself am surprised to see him at 6. I expected him to be 4.

Well, how is Roddick deserved to be #4 when he lost in the QF last year? There is a formula, and he simply wasn't good enough on grass in the last two years to jump from #6 to #4. I don't see where is the problem?

What, no Nicolas Mahut?

I was hoping to see him this year. Sure, he may not be seeded, but is the rest of the draw posted yet?

Why do you think that?

Oh right "Murray Maniac" :)

now it is a mix of past wimbledon performances and the seeding.
I think now the committee gives more weight on the seeding than it did previously.

I think the committee should have the discretion to seed however they see fit IF there is some logical justification for it. Roddick at #4 would have made the most sense, as neither Ferrer nor Davydenko have ever really done much of anything on grass. Plus, Roddick won Queens last year, was a semi-finalist this year. Not to mention Roddick's history of Wimbledon finals and semi-final appearances and multiple Queens' wins.

The committee dropped the ball on this one.

For the record, I'm personally fine with all the slams granting bonus points for previous success at that slam AND for remarkable success on the relevant surface. Nadal SHOULD be the #1 seed at the French Open. Roddick has no business being in the top 10 at the French.

These discussions are so tedious! To me they should just go with official ranking so we can put an end to the yearly polemic about who desrved what and who got cheated! I'm really tired of it.
