2009 Grand Slam Predictions

I just did a quick search there and it brought up two pages but neither had any predictions for next years grand slams. If there's already a thread I apologise greatly.

I was also looking through the 06' Predictions. Some were way off and a couple got it 100%. Lets see how we all do this year.


Austrailian Open - Roger Federer

Roland Garros - Rafael Nadal

Wimbledon - Nadal or Federer (I honestly can't pick a winner)

US Open - Roger Federer


I honestly don't see Murray winning a slam next year despite his great end of year run. I see 2010 being the year Murray wins his first slam and it will likely be a hardcourt slam.

Also, I don't see Djokovic defending down under. Federer will likely be in his half (It's 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 isn't it?)

and I can see Roger avenging last years semi-final if they are in the same half. I just have a gut feeling though that Austrailia is gonna be Rogers.

Nadal is a definite winner for the french. Roger blew his best chance in 2006 and there's no great clay courters coming up that could trouble Nadal really. Maybe I underestimate Novak but I don't know.

Wimbledon's gonna be a toughy but I don't see anybody beating Nadal or Roger on grass next year.

I don't know why but I don't see anybody beating Roger at the US Open. I don't know why but I think he's gonna make it 6 in a row.

Repeated thread x 4, but I dont want to kill it, have to repeat my answers.

AUO: Tsonga

FO: Nadal

Wimby: Federer

USO: Federer

Nothing for Murray.

I have to confess I despise the man. I just cant get the scene out of my mind when he was complaining to the umpire when Federer needed medical timeout. There is a jerkiness about him.
 
Aus Open: Federer ( > murray=djokovic > nadal) . Tsonga,safin,nalbandian,simon might have something to say too.

French Open: Nadal obv. ( fed and djo have a chance if they play very well and nadal's doesn't or is injured )

Wimbledon: Federer=Nadal ( too tough to choose), I'll go with federer though.

US Open: Same as aus open except that can't rule out roddick here IF he plays very very well , but don't think that's going to happen.
 
Australian- I'll take Djokovic to defend his title.
Roland Garros- Nadal (duh)
Wimbledon- Nadal, barring injury (Fed wins if Nadal gets hurt)
US Open- It's a toss up. I'll choose Djokovic v Federer in final.
 
I want to say that Tsonga will win AO but I think he will fall to pressure. I honestly believe that Murray will not a slam, and I think Nadal has no chance at a hard court slam.

In the order of preference:
AO: Djokovic, Federer, Nadal
RG: Nadal
Wimbledon: Nadal, Federer
USO: Federer, Djokovic, Murray

And I do hope that some dark horse will appear and ruin all our forecasts. Dark horse candidates: Nalbandian, Del Potro, Gulbis, Cilic, Nishikori, Gasquet (?).

He was dominated in both AO and USO SFs !
 
AO - Roger Federer (Djoker and Murray in semis)
FO - Roger vs Nadal, close but Roger takes it.
WO - of course Roger (his deal with them to let RN take one is over)
US - Roger, who else ?

Dark horses: Tsonga. Would like to see him take a slam.

USO-Sampras (got tired of playing exhibitions and seniour tour and decided to comeback and show who's the boss,he would have done that at Wimbledon but it's green clay now and Sampras always hated clay)

I would go with Nadal for all 4 but he's just too often exhausted or opponents play the match of their life against him(or both at the same time like at USO this year).

This happened in every HC slam Nadal entered since 2005.He also always gets the hardest draws possible at AO and USO(most likely it's a conspiracy against Nadal as it happens too often to be just a merely coincidence) which is another factor going against him.

Based on these predictions, I'm gonna say

AO- Any member of New kids on the Block
RG- Barry Bonds (with one hand)
W- Sean Connery (that'sh jusht how the coookie crumblesh)
USO- The Easter Bunny, straight sets over Santa Clause

Edit: Sampras would win USO if he did in fact come out of retirement.

i noticed that you picked the improbable. afraid of jinxing fed or are you a ronin now? :?

my predictions:
AO = Federer d. Murray (or would they be in the same half of the draw?)
FO = Nadal until 2020
W = Schuettler or Clement ;)
USO = Murray gets revenge
 
I'll keep it simple......

Aus Open Djokovic (maybe Federer)
French Open Nadal ... who else???
Wimbledon Nadal or Federer (don't know right now)
US Open Don't know way to far, have to get some idea of how the year plays out but Federer and Djokovic would be my favourites today.

LOL,laughed at the ronin part.No I wasn't afraid of jinxing Fed,I was just joking around with my 2009 predictions.

I'm mostly hoping Fed takes Wimbledon back next year.AO or USO title would be great as well but Wimbledon is the most important slam to Fed so I would like to see him win it next year(although it certainly won't be easy with Nadal around).

Lol,no I don't think Nadal had a tough draw at this year's USO or AO for that matter.I was being sarcastic about how whenever he loses on HC according to his fans he was either exhausted or his opponent played the match of his life and supposedly the draws are always rigged against him as well.

But joking aside I do think Nadal will win a HC slam during the next 2 year or so(maybe even as early as next year's AO),he's improving on that surface steadily every year.

Yeah,it's kind of hard to believe he hasn't won a title since AO 2005 when he beat Fed and Hewitt.I hope he sticks around for the next few years,you never know he might make another run similar to the one he made at Wimbledon this year.

I pick
Aussie open : Andy Murray
French open: Nadal
Wimbledon : Nadal
US open : Novak Djokovic

Masters final : Gille Simon.
 
Australian Open - Djokovic (will successfully defend his first title)
French Open - Gulbis (an utter catastrophe with the favorites and Gulbis won't face anyone in the top 5 on his way to the title)
Wimbledon - Djokovic (much like his Shanghai victory in '08, Djokovic wants to put his early exit out of everyone's minds)
U.S. Open - Federer (after his eviction at Wimbledon, Federer finds his new home at Flushing Meadows and ties Sampras' GS record)

AO: Federer
FO: Nadal
Wimby: Federer
USO: Djokovic
