2009 was a fluke, Nadal best player since 2008

I always knew 2009 was a fluke, some of you guys had trouble seeing it.
Nadal is the best player since 2008. His dominance winning Roland Garros, Wimbledon, Olympics, Masters Series and next year's AO left little doubt.
Only bad luck with his knees stopped him last year so Fed won RG and Wimbledon being extremely lucky and with the best man out of contest. Fed should feel really lucky and grateful for those 2 extra lucky Slams.
Order has been restored in 2010 with healthy Nadal beating in finals both guys that beat Fed in straight sets LOL!

Also, the rivalry with Soderling and Berdych belongs to Federer and his fans now. Nadal owns both of them on all surfaces and beat them in straight sets in the most important match of their careers. Long life healthy Nadal. King of tennis and future GOAT!

I agree with a lot of this although you are being a bit tongue in cheek.

Nadal will never be GOAT though.

I agree.

Since 2008

Nadal has 5 slams , 9 masters series and one Olympic gold medal.

Federer has 4 slams and 2 masters series.

Federer getting back world number 1 was just due to Nadal being injured. Now Nadal is back and start to dominate again.

That was fantastic end of tournament for Nadal. He played brillantly.

Also, those jokes of threads comparing Hewitt and Roddick with Nadal on grass are laughable. Nadal is a much better grass court player than Hewitt and Roddick.

The thing is the following:

In 2008, Nadal takes over Federer, spank him in the final of RG, beat him in the final of Wimbledon, win the Olympic gold, the MS of Toronto and take the number one spot. In the beginning of 2009, Nadal won his first grand slam on hardcourt, defeating again Federer in the final, start to dominate the clay season.

Then Nadal has a big knee injury. Federer take the opportunity, take RG, Wimbledon, regain the number one ranking, wins the OA.

And as soon as Nadal is back to his best, he wins RG and Wimbledon like in 2008 and is back to the number one rankings.

It looks like Federer returning to the number one ranking was mainly due to Nadal injury.

Federer did most of the work(make that all to be honest) to get to no1,Nadals injury did help but Feds wins are legit,it's not his fault Nadal was injured

I agree, it's not his fault and he only did what was in his hands but I think that it was a big help, especially for RG.

still hard to say, would have Rafa been in the RG final even if he was fully fit considering the way Soderling played we'll never know
but yeah,I also have a feeling that Federer got a tiny bit lucky last year

This place is unbearable and Im a Nadal fan.....I wonder if all these thread starters are under the age of 10?

Biologically I'm a young adult. Mentally I'm an ancient sage. Emotionally I'm an immature fetus. Sexually I'm a God worshipped by all the women that have the incredible honor of knowing my prowess.

I always thought that you would be much older than me. I guess your sage mentality explains it. I wish I had your mental maturity TLW.

Hi Dimension, hope you enjoyed Rafa winning his 2nd wimbledon title today. Berdych got walloped. Congrats to Nadal and his fans. *Cool Federer (avatar) approves*

LOL. Thanks, Dimension. I was just kidding though (except for the last part, that's all true, and I'm even being humble about it.) :)

And I think you are way smarter than I am. I'm smart enough to know when someone is smarter than me.

Man, Cool Federer is so cool that he would make Vincent (the guy played by John Travolta in Pulp Fiction) look utterly lame.

Thank you JDI. :) That's very nice of you. It is indeed a fabulous day for Rafa and his fans. I am sure Federer is not done winning slam yet. Don't lose faith yet! I hope he can win his 6th USO title to break the all-time record.

lol agreed. I am sticking to this avatar. I am sure you went to bed last night utterly confused about my avatar party last night. My avatar robbing days are over..... maybe just for today.

True, because early 2008 is when Federer caught mono. He has NEVER been the same player since. Nadal took advantage and capitalized and won 5 Slams after that.

I had a weird nightmare. I was trapped in a funhouse with endless corridors and distorted doors. Avatars reflected on one thousand mirrors. Smoke and a strange calliope music enveloped everything.

Thank you for the compliment TLW. You are just being humble. However, I have no doubt about your charm so you don't need to hold back on that. My avatar just approves that. :)

1) 2 extra lucky slams? Last time I checked, Nadal was in the A0 10 draw that Federer won...
2) Federer has more than twice as many slams as Nadal
3) Nadal hasn't won all 4 GS's yet
4) Federer is on his decline because of his age. If he was at his peak then I am not saying he would be beating Rafa this year, but it would change things
5) Long live healthy Nadal*

It is Faye Dunaway from "The Thomas Crown Affair." Isn't that Steve McQueen in your avatar? If you get the point.
Ah... I am afraid I never watched "The Thomas Crown Affair." But I get your point though. ;)

Interesting, as my first avatar was Jack Nicholson. :) Have you ever watched Chinatown? One of the best movies ever made.

Yes! That was a great movie, even though the ending is a bit sad *feel bad for Faye's character and how the villain triumphed at the end.*

It's funny how you pointed out the coincidence that just slipped through my mind. I guess we have something in common in that regard.

Only a bit of bad luck with Federer getting mono in 2008 allowed Nadal to dominate...

Look, bad luck happens to the players. It's pretty irrelevant. Federer won what he won in 2009, and Nadal is streets ahead in 2010.

That's just crap, I'm sorry I have to point it out.

Clay season: Whether Fed had mono or not, it's irrelevant.
Grass season: Fed doesn't play Queens. As for Wimbledon, 2008 was simply a logical culmination of the process started in 2006. The fact that Federer did better as the match went on proves that mono didn't have anything to do with his defeat. The match was also very close.
Hardcourts: The effect of mono is also debatable. Fed won USO, didn't he? Nadal won AO09, about 1 year after Fed's mono was diagnosed.
Most important factor to consider: Nadal is a bad matchup for Fed, even on hardcourts. What Nadal has trouble with usually is other players on hardcourts, but in 2008 he was a beast, even on hardcourts. Thereby, Fed's mono is absolutely meaningless.

In sum, even though mono might have hurt Fed's results, it wouldn't have prevented Nadal from dominating like he did. If you can argue against my points with some logical arguments, I'd be happy to enter the contest. LOL.

You will get some logical arguments if you actually propose them yourself:

Clay season: you call your statement logical? Do you know what logic even means? I can easily counter with mono was completely relevant to the clay season because of its lingering effects even after it is clinically gone.
Grass season: was the culmination of nothing. Do you have any clue what proof actually is? Doing better later in the match does not prove anything. And it again can easily be countered by doing worse in the beginning of the match being caused by the lingering effects of the mono.
Hardcourts: Yes Fed won the USO, so what? Fed + lingering mono effects is better than 90% of all other players.
AO09: Fed had back problems and he choked. Nadal didn't beat Fed, Fed beat himself.

In sum, Fed's mono had a huge effect on Nadal having the 2008 campaign that he did. Without it, he would have won his usual one slam. Nadal did play like a beast in 2008 and with all that, still managed to do worse than Fed's 3rd best year. Done and done!

!

At least get your facts right moron.

Soderling def Federer 3-6 6-3 7-5 6-4
Berdych def Federer 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4

Tell me how Federer lost in straights in both of those matches

I wasn't trying to be terribly logical myself. The OP wasn't logical, I was just responding in the same style. :)

At any rate, I could just respond with "mono destroyed Fed's training regime, training is essential for elite athletes, the lack of training led to poorer performances, causing Federer to lose more often".

Nadal beat them in straight sets, was what he said/meant.

I will wind up laughing so hard if Fed beats Nadal in the final of the US Open...though I fear for the amount of threads that will be posted and TW forums crashing.

LOL *******s losing their cool now that the Nadal-Djokovic era started!
Nadal beat Soderling and Berdych in straights! Yes those unstoppable guys who beat Fed quite convincingly!

We will see if Fed has a lucky draw in USO. As the no.3 seed he could play Nadal in semifinals. I just hope Falla makes it to the main draw.

I agree.

actually, Nadal should feel lucky Fed has been injured in every slam Nadal has won. nadal is very lucky.

can you hear me?? If not, pull your head out of rafa's rear.

That would be poetic justice wouldn't it? ;)
The two biggest names each owning two slams a piece this year. And logical too, with Roger claiming the hardcourt slams, and Rafa with his "usual" FO-Wimby double.

You are not making any sense whatsoever. Nadal owns clay. Mono didn't affect Wimbledon (mono affects stamina, and Fed was doing better as the match went on.) Wimbledon 2007 was also closer than 2006. Nadal was better in 2008, so the result was far from unexpected.

As for the hardcourts, you don't know what you are talking about. Mono didn't have anything to do with Nadal dominating hardcourts in 2008. The effect of mono in USO 08 would logically be much more important than in AO 09, yet Fed won USO 08 and not AO 09. Hint: Fed didn't lose AO 09, but Nadal did lose USO 08 because of fatigue related to the Olympics, which he also won.

You are not fooling anyone, bruce38. Your posting style is too characteristic. As is your lack of sense and ability to present logical arguments. LOL.
