Venus has a good draw IMO so Im going with her.

Also hoping Kimmy can make some noise here also.

Yeah, outside of Sharapova, she has a bunch of clay courters in her section. Watch out for Szavay though, she did beat her at the French and isn't TERRIBLE on HC, but she's too up and down for me to say she'll beat Venus or even make it that far.

Schiavone has 2 MP against Mauresmo

Down to 1 MP

GSM Schiavone 6-2, 3-6, 6-1

Szavay is a good player I agree, her BH is great, but if Venus plays well, she will win. Szavay actually bageled Venus at the French, so I hope she got revenge on her mind.:)

Venus sucks on clay at this point in her career so what happened on clay when they played means nothing. Venus these days is a worthless clay court so a decent player like Szavay should have crushed her on clay and did. Hard courts will be a different story if Venus is even half interested.

I want Clijsters to win it, but that's asking a lot for her 2nd tournament back. She's got a tough draw, possibly facing Azarenka and Safina (a much tougher prospect since it's not a final).

I picked Dementieva just by process of elimination. The Williamses will probably lose early to rest up for the US Open. Safina is a basketcase. I don't think Jankovic can pull off 2 in a row. Sharapova is still kind of iffy.

K. Bondarenko d. Venus Williams

1-6, 7-5, 6-4

WTF WAS THAT VENUS????????????????????

She ripped through the first set and went home for the match. Her FH and BH was the WORST i've ever seen in the 2nd & 3rd Set, her return went on holiday after the first, she lierally could not hit in the court, and her serve disappeared.

Im really pissed off the contrast was unbelieveable from the first set, she went from playing top 3 to club level in no time. There was no reason for it either, K-Bond was only hitting to a reasonable length, nothing else really (props for being consistent tho), but Venus played like sh1t and its really hard to defend her after that.

She will still be dangerous for the open but she seems to struggle more this year against the lesser ranked players rather than the top ones, she had ver few losses against top players in Since Wimby 08.

Must be the water up here...they just pointed out that Venus has NEVER won a main draw match here in Canada!

Maybe that explains why I suck too? ;)

With Venus out, it looks like that quarter of the draw is now open to aggie radwanska. I can actually see her making the semis, that is if she can get by a potential Zvonareva/Sharapova match

Safina falling apart, 13 double faults

Score is 6-3 2-6 2-2 against Rezai

Safina seemed lost on the court, w/o her coach she looks fragile. She received a coaching violation, Zelko left soon after and she fell apart IMO. Her serve was attrocious, grand slam final style, it was quite uncomfortable to watch.

Where is the girl who beat Clijsters & Pennetta from last week????

Bammer is just hanging on against Sharapova.

Sharapova leads 4-3 (just broke serve) in set #2 after winning set #1, 6-3.

Bammer is in much better shape than she used to be and she's striking the ball cleanly.

3 MP's for Sharapova

2 MP's now...

Sharapova's serve is horrendous today.

She's DF all over the place. When she broke Bammer at 4-3... she served four DF's to give Bammer the break back.

Now Deuce :)

Advantage Bammer... after Sharapova blew 3 MP's

Bammer breaks back... 5-5

Bammer up 30-0

40-0

40-30

Deuce

Ad Sharapova

Deuce

Ad Bammer

6-5 Bammer

6-6 2nd set TB

Bammer up 4-3 in the 2nd set TB (up a mini-break)

4-4

5-4 Sharapova serving now with 2 serves

6-4 Sharapova with 2 more MP's

DF by Sharapova 6-5

7-5 Sharapova in the TB

Sharapova 6-3, 7-6 (2 hr. 12 min.)

Sharapova to meet Zvonareva next round

wozniaki and azarenka seem to be slipping...wta was really pushing these two...it can't really be great news for the tour for azarenka to lose 6-1 in the third to kim, maybe short-term, but...

I'm happy about that...Azarenka is just another big babe basher whose game frankly puts me to sleep; she can't do anything but hit hard, shows almost zero versatility. Bravo to Kim for sending her packing

Yeah she reminds me alot of the talentless Steffi Graf with her brainless boring bashing game. That game will never bring you to the top.

You sound a lot like gj. Graf talentless? LOL! She would beat Jankovic and Ivanovic TODAY.

Thanks. Looks like Jelena has a tough match with Kimmie coming up.

could very well be ....... i havent seen kim play yet since her return, and she has been pretty hot .... but JJ is in winning form once again, so that's a match I'd definitely like to see! :)

Yeah I think it will be a great 3 setter. I hope the winner of that wins the event, or plays Ana in the final (unfortunately I expect Serena or Stosur to make it out of the other half though).

ana faces safarova next and then the winner of wozniacki/zheng ....... after her win over safina in los angeles, i'm curious to see how zheng does against the dane! :)
