It is funny with Maria still clearly rusty, Elena in her current form should roll over her. However Elena has always seemed to have a mental block with Maria. Elena will probably still win but it will probably be hard work as it has been so far.

Watching these two serve makes me wonder if I should even try to teach my girlfriend, whose Russian, tennis. Seems like it would be a very arduous task...LOL

wouldnt that be kinda like teaching her to drive? ;)

do the words "dont try this at home" mean anything to you? :D

It just seems Russian girls are inherently bad at serving. Doesn't matter where they got trained. It's just in their genes. LMAO

they also seem to be very emotionally expressive, from what i've seen of most of the russian women on the tour (except maybe for kleybanova who's more stoic), IOW just "let it all hang out"

question: do you (or does anybody) know the name of the sportscaster on tennistv wta? I've noticed him before, and he's very pleasant and knowledgeable, but i've never heard him say his name.

Sharapova is just wailing on these championship point balls...

Nice playing by Dementieva

6-4, 6-3 in 2 hours 03 minutes

If you don't like it don't watch it.

That is ******** logic. Anyone who watched something should refrain from criticizing it. What ridiculous nonsense. I cant believe I am defending anyone who calls him/herself Federerfanatic (ugh). Anyway good Elena won instead of the lucky shrieker.

Interesting tidbit...

The last 3 past champions of the Roger's Cup when held in Toronto...have gone on to win the USO.

Elena is way overdue for a major, too.

Both of you, please just shut up

I said please...

14 titles for (Bela)Russians this year, including 5 Tier-1s. Dementieva, Safina, and Azarenka each have 3 titles in 2009.

just got the answer to my question! :)

His name is Kevin Skinner! :D

He finally said his name at the very end of the broadcast. I've been wondering who he is since the very first time I heard him broadcasting the clay matches in charleston earlier this year.

55% voted for Clijsters???

I suppose these are probably frustrated WTA critics. Clijsters will probably do well when she gets back in form, but she still can't compete with the Top 5 IMO.

wow. i am watching the delayed match on espn2 and sharapova got upset at michael joyce for talking too loud :)

i've sometimes thought that the coach was purposely talking loud enough to allow his player's opponent to hear what he was saying, especially when they say something that is in some way a negative against that opponent!

Wish I could have seen the finish, but the first set took so long my DVR stopped recording midway through the second. The serving was ugly, but some terrific hitting and defense by both players.

The last two matches Dementieva played were great to watch. It's inspiring to see a player make that kind of improvement so late in their career.
