Crazy to think these two have only played once, at the Olympics 08 Bronze Medal match w/ Djokovic winning in straights.

If I was Blake, I'd definitely request this match be played during the day, it's the only chance he has at taking out Djoker IMO, hoping he wilts in the heat.

Thoughts?

Saw some of Blake's match last night and was quite impressed to be honest. He has a puncher's chance against Novak - especially if it's an early day match.

I'd love to be a believer in Blake. But watching Djokovic last night, I just got this feeling he'll do very well for at least a few more rounds, and James has been inconsistent at best. I hope the latter proves me wrong here.

A day match will be his (Blake's) greatest weapon, but even under that condition, Djokovic would likely take the match in 4 sets. On the other hand, if Blake makes an effort to keep Djokovic running in the heat (cross-court backhands are a start), there may be a window for the upset.

If Blake comes out firing, with the heat and the crowd on his side, he could upset Djokovic, who is in so-so form and has struggled more than any other top player in his 1st two rounds.

Djoker is unpredictable. Just like the number of his ball bounces before his serves.
I dont know the time or forecast for their match... but if it's during the day and hot it could go to 4 or 5 set for joker.. otherwise its done in 3

I think this has the potential to be a very good match.
My guess is that this will be a day match on Saturday. CBS will want the Federer match and this one, leaving Fish-Clement for the night match.

I agree that the only hope Blake has is for Djokovic to wilt physically at a very hot time of the day. Djokovic in 3 sets.

Hey guys, I read here a lot but don't post much. Just wanted to mention that the heat wouldn't be an issue because it's going to be about 75 here tomorrow and Sunday. Would they play this match tomorrow or Sunday? I'm hoping tomorrow because I'm going during the day sessions. Would love to see a Blake upset.

If Blake come out in the zone, then he'll probably take a set minimum before Djokovic recovers and wins in 4 or 5 like the Troicki match. Can't see James maintaining a high level for three sets.

No more heat in New York guys. Starting tonight the temperature will cool off 10 degree at least. When they play on Saturday it will be in the 80s degree. Not 90s or 100s.

Djokovic in 4 given that Blake has his head into the match, and gets the crowd going. If he starts out playing bad, then he's going to have a day like his 2010 Wimbledon run, and Djokovic in 3 then

I could see Fish taking Djokovic out. If he gets past Fish I see him in the semis. No way I see him beating Federer. His only chance of making the final is if Soderling takes out Federer and then possibly Djokovic beats him.

Seeing parts of Blakes last match, it certainly seemed as if whatever he had lost this past year or so was found again. Some vintage stuff there. I'm really hoping it continues, this could be a very good match.

Blake was actually extremely impressive in patches. Djokovic didn't really impress me at any point in his match, but he will proabably be too solid. If it goes the distance, Djokovic's mental strength will see him through (he's underrated in that aspect). I'm gonna say Djokovic in 4, but it would be nice to see Blake find his way back to the top of the game.

You Blake fans need to take the Journey 'Don't Stop Believing' 8 track out of the stereo. He looked good yesterday - AFTER Polansky realized he was two sets from being in the 3rd round at a major and locked up mentally. Joker has way too much game. And like MC pointed out, the weather isn't going to bail James out - and I'm not sure he would have gotten through a long match either. Remember, his nickname isn't 'Mr. Fifth Set'.

Joker in 3. First two will be competitive, then Blake will go away.

Eh, I watched a bit of Blake's match, he can produce goodies occasionally but nothing much more, I say Djoko in 3 with 1 tough set.

I don't know who this is directed at. I don't think anyone has delusions of grandeur. Djokovic is #3 in the world and supposedly in the prime of his career, while Blake is in the twilight of his obviously. Realistically Djokovic should win this in 3. But given Djoker's penchant for making life hard for himself, Blake could squeak out a set. I didn't know about the heat, that's where the comment about it needing to be a day match comes from. Now with temps dropping, Blake's chances got weaker.

Let's just hope it's a high quality match, not a choking error fest from both guys.

heh the hot days in NY are over don't say heat for djokovic or smthing

besides it is anight match don't be surprised of djoker crushes old blake

Why. The year end #3 of the last 3 years is certainly overdue for another slam. I highly doubt it will happen, but it would be great for the game. The extreme Nadal and Federer dominance probably gets boring to alot of people.

He hasn't beaten a top 10 player all year. He's playing the worst tennis of his career since 2007 TBH, just has had easy with a capital E draws in the slams to keep his rank up. Only top 10 player w/ more DFs than aces.

I wonder if Blake did some kind of re-evaluation of his tennis career.

It seems he's on fire in this US Open.

Maybe the passion has returned? Or is this just a flash-in-the-pan event?

I'd think it's probably the fact that it's a huge event in front of a home crowd on the downside of his career. There's not going to be too many more chances he'll get to do this, and I think that's probably part of the reason he seems so up for it.

I just hope for him that win or lose he comes out and puts on a good performance tonight :)

"Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world":)

Blake will come in swinging away with nothing to lose that's for sure. He's been pretty hit or miss with it last match from what little I've seen. It'll be close if his shots find their way in.

Djoko in 3...maybe 4, since Djoko has been El Choko at times after winning the 1st set.

Blake should come out going for broke on every shot. He has nothing to lose and it is pretty much his only shot of winning at this point anyway.

So let me get this right. If you live in the states and don't have the Tennis Channel, there's no way to watch this match except on some crappy stream?

No excuse for that. Just brutal.

I'll take an up and down Djoker over a well past his prime Blake in 4 sets.

I think it will be Djokovic in 4. But I hope we can see a nice 5 setter with the crowd getting into it and pushing Blake for the upset.

I imagine this will be easy for Djokovic - I certainly can't see it going the distance and IMO Blake even getting a set is quite unlikely. I would love to see Blake go through to the next round but Djokovic has got too much game for him during these stages of their careers.
