Veroniquem's posts never cease to amuse me. Federer was consistent enough tonight to beat Delpo, did a great job at the net. Needs more work on the ground game in particular. Phenomenal serving. What I liked tonight was how he effectively mixed it up with the slices and different spins. He just needs to get the forehand into gear again, that and his serve can alone take him far in Cincy.

Oh just to note, Nadal himself said that he didn't play too bad against Dodig, he merely didn't play well on the important points. Just drop it already and stop with the excuses. As for Cincy, I don't think he'll reach the final, probably will reach the semi's, his draw isn't that much of a challenge to be honest if he plays better. Benneteau could give him some trouble if he serves well.

Of course he still had the "possible" foot trauma, a virus, a tooth cavity, a canker sore in his mouth, take your pick!

Wonder what it will be in Cincy. There has to be something on the table. Wait, you'll see.
Not sure if he recovered from the banana injury.

Fed did nothing wrong tonight, that's true. Then again Delpo is not the formidable opponent he was 2 years ago. Let's see what happens when Fed faces top 10 guys.

Back to you if Fed loses (Which he probably will in the end).
I do not make denigrating and insulting posts about Nadal or boast unreasonably about Fed. So if Roger loses, there is no need for me to eat humble pie. But you on the other hand ...

Montreal was just an obligation - it was in the way. Now it's out of the way and everyone's concentrating. No way Fed would lose here in Cincy this early in the tournament.

I know he didn't want to -- in his opening interview he pretty much said "Defending champion had better show up ready to defend".

I just wasn't happy seeing the two of them have to go head to head so early; if Delpo hadn't had trouble in Montreal I would still have been worried about Roger going out. Delpo went toe-to-toe with him in the 2nd set till that break.

I'm honestly a little more concerned for Rafa to make sure he makes his semi here.

Especially since Cincy is his favorite tournament. To me, Cincy is to Fed what Monte-Carlo is to Rafa. If he has any chance to win anything big this year, certainly, Cincy is it.
It will be ominous the day Fed won't be able to do well at Cincy.

I agree the task is much more challenging for Rafa because the Cincy surface or surface/balls combination is the most uncomfortable for him. He's yet to make the final there and it's doubtful if this year is the best context to be hoping for that. But his draw is decent and Djoko is on the other side, so if he can muster some much needed confidence/momentum in the early rounds, his chances are not too bad.

I have to say I didn't watch the match but reading through this thread I lol'd a lot. Like I said before, veroniquem hates Fed way more than she loves Nadal. Nadal was always an excuse to hate Fed, just a constant one, while Delpo was a temp one for this match.

I hope Djokovic beats Nadal again just so veroniqeum stays a way for a while every time Nadal loses a big match.

You're missing my point. Let's try again:

Nadal draws Blake = Blake has beaten Nadal on HC before, he can trouble Rafa, Blake could get hot and give Rafa trouble, really tough early match...I'm so nervous for Rafa the mighty warrior.

Fed draws Blake = Isn't Blake retired or dead? What a joke draw.
In the thread about Fed's draw there was a lot of people saying it was an easy one, and otehrs saying it was hard... it seems pretty hard to me.

Delpo is no doubt a hards second round draw, despite his form not being very good lately.

The thing that is puzzling about Nadal though is that it seems when he really has to or wants to he can return with the best of them. He did it against Isner this year at RG for example. Why does he only seem to return like that sporadically?

ETA: He also did the same thing against Karlovic in IW this year at times, too.
This does remind me of Toni saying in some interview something about Nadal serving way better when he felt he "had" to.

That's only in patches. Nadal returned good against Isner only in few games of the final set, especially where he hit those 3 return winners in one game. And that was CLAY.

Basically Nadal always struggles returning big serves on fastercourts. Look at his career stats of returning in the second half of the season. He fails to get so many first serves back in play it's strange for a top player. The fact that he still wins, and does decently ok in return game stats is a testimony to his ground game which comes into play once a neutral rally starts. Nadal's challenge is basically to get the ball back in play...
Good points...

There was of course no possible foot trauma, as you know.

Actually, he had trouble with a peroneal tendon -- as you would know if you did some Googling.

As I feel like I say every time we switch surfaces: Roger and Rafa have so much respect for each other. It's a shame the same can't be said of some of their "fans".

After Delpo though, his draw is so incredibly soft that it's more a mousse than a cake really.
Yea but Nadal has nobody in his WHOLE HALF. Atleast Fed had Delpo and has Djoker to face before the final. Who in the world does Rafa have?

Tsonga is the only player in his half playing decently at the moment. And Fish but as you have yourself said he will be a "cakewalk" for Rafa. So if Fed's draw is soft here, I don't even know where to begin describing Rafa's.

I thought Davydenko is in Nadal's draw?

If so then the Nadal who showed up against Dodig, could lose to Davy..

Dude I was just replying a troll post with another one.

But yes Davydenko is in Nadal's half, but he's hardly been playing great. Of course neither has Rafa so who knows.

Pretty much.

About tonight's match, IMHO, it seems that Del Po was not up to it.
He might never get back to 2009 levels ever again.

Davy lost today, but I still see where you're coming from. Nadal could lose to anyone right now with the way he has been playing. No draw is a cakewalk for him no matter who is in it,and I think Benneteau has a good chance for the upset today as Nadal is ripe for the pickin'.

wow ! That's quite gross :)
Would be gross if he actually succeeded. Otherwise, it's just another of his annoying tics *******s have learned to accept and others, such as myself, learn to "pick" at in a droll manner. I could live with it and his bottle fixation if he would just give up all that pre-match "hyping up" that is discourteous to his opponent and the chair umpire.

Sorry if I offended you, Sent.
