20111103 practice drills

The preparation time for the first batch of forehands were ridiculous. Haha. I really liked the baseline overheads, though.

no reply?

where is Dozu, my friend?

he can't refer to your human racquet at this time as he managed to get himself banned...

Ok, your FH take back, especially on the CC shot, is very loose and can get a bit high, causes your swing path to be very flat, hence so many balls in to the net.

your reverse FH from the short balls is excellent, however.

those overhead, hmmm, I bet you grew up playing badminton? Rememer, you don't have to make it spin down into the floor. You have epic slice on some of those, but you could just let them get a bit (tiny bit!) lower and use that good motion to better effect.

you are improving, though! :)

You look fitter and quicker with every vid.
However, you really should be hitting against an opponent, not hitting fed balls, for any kind of useful evaluation (if there is such a thing).

hi Timbo, thanks for the advice.

indeed I was playing badminton for a few years and I am pretty confident in my badminton level:) that's why I am also very confident when hitting baseline overheads.

however can you elaborate on the final point, get a bit lower? I don't really follow here, what do you suggest me to do?

Hi LeeD, the purpose of this vid is not really to have you guys evaluate my level. the purpose is to have you guys look how I practice and advice if I am doing the right thing.

I don't care 3.0,3.5 or 4.0, I just want to improve from where I am now everyday.

let your contact point on the baseline overhead be slightly later and with the ball slightly further in front of you (only a small amount)

this will give you a bit more penetration.

it's a good looking shot, though!

You are very much an upper body player. I think it is important to remember that power comes from the ground up and that although it looks like top players are simply spinning their torsos ( as would like to be perpetuated as "modern tennis" in this forum) is only an opposing vector i.e. your center of gravity is doing something other than what your racquet needs to do i.e. travel up towards the intended target. If you refuse to lift and "stay down" than at least make sure your shoulders stop before contact, which actually increases racquet head speed and giving you a hitting zone.

You need to hit more live balls - your spacing to the ball when you have to move is inconsistent - just needs more experience. Also, try to make your swing a more gradual acceleration instead of waiting and then slapping.
