Welcome to the 2012 edition of the Wimbledon Sudden Death League.

Rules of the game:

1. Every day of the tournament that day's matches will be posted. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

2. Till the Round of 16, you have to pick one player per day. In the R16, quarters, semis and finals you pick one player per round.

3. During a tournament, you can pick a player only ONCE. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you somehow have no players left to pick, you're out as well.

4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5a. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, you're allowed to change your pick.

5b. If the opponent of the player you picked retires, it counts like a win. However, you can't pick a player whose opponent had already retired from the tournament.

6. If you want to change you pick, make a new post quoting the old pick. Edited posts containing picks will not be taken into account.

Folks, the league file was getting to cluttered with tabs. I have moved the 2012 tournament results to the link that is listed above in the OP. RG, Queen's Club and Halle will remain in the league file after Wimbledon has been completed.

I seriously need a major to compensate not winning the Halle title, count me in.

Trying to leapfrog into the top 10 in the Race. :)

How can you be so sure that Mahut is playing on Day 1?

He's in Djokovic's half. If they follow history, Mahut will play on day 1, and my internet availability may be limited this weekend, so I'm taking a pretty good chance that he will be playing on Monday.

Don't they sometimes open proceedings on Monday with the Ladies defending champion first?

Not as far back as I can remember. Even in 2009, when Nadal was the previous year's champion and pulled out, they opened with Federer, the 2008 runner up.

I think the best thing to do is to make a bottom half pick as a back up. Wouldn't want you to be eliminated because of a NPA in case they did start with the Ladies defending champion first.

Fair enough. Bottom half back up, which will then serve as my day 2 pick assuming Mahut plays and wins on Monday:

David Ferrer

Shouldn't it read "BEFORE the round of 16..."?

May I suggest to include the main draw here for quick reference.

Anyway, I'm in this time.
