Wawrinka can take it to Murray, who has trouble against single-handers. Even Gasquet 3.0 would lose to Nole 1.5 though.

I count 6 single handers in the top 20 - 5 of them have a losing head to head against Murray - the 1 exception has played Murray once, on clay, in one of his post AO slumps.

Stan can definitely cause Murray problems; but not because Murray struggles against single handed backhands.

H2H means nothing. Murray struggled against everyone...even Donald Young bar that Bangkok encounter.

OK - If Murray's head to head versus single handers isn't the metric to look at when trying to determine if he struggles against single handers, then what shall we look at?

Bar the Bangkok and USO encounters you mean?

You should look at how lucky Murray got in most of those matches (Richie Wimbly 2008, RG 2010 and Wawrinka USO 2008).

The trouble is that the single handers in the top 20 are good players but epic chokers: Wawrinka, Almagro and Gasquet are all mental ants.

How the points are played out and how many sets he lost to them.

US Open seemed like an easy affair but Donald Young was troubling Murray more than expected. Even the Young Haters were in awe....

Lol...of course! Murray is always lucky isn't he? Luckiest chap who has ever played tennis..probably luckiest chap who has ever lived. All those titles and all achieved by sheer luck!

But how come he always gets so lucky whenever he plays against someone and if he could bottle it, advertise it and sell it to the rest of the tour, do you suppose he would make a far bigger fortune than he has already made?? :-)

Donald Young doesn't count. Murray was in his post AO final losing malaise when he lost to him and Bogomolov at IW and Miami. Once he had got his motivation and focus back, neither player ever troubled Murray again.

The chinese crowd are terrible disgraces to humanity. Cheering Richie's netting of a first serve and UEs.

In other news, Gasquet sucks and lost to this nobody.

Wins Bangkok and loses in the next week to someone ranked outside 150. Must be Gasquet...

Up 40 - 0 and loses 6 straight points to lose the match.

nice win for marcos against monaco... at last a top 10 win this year ! :)
pame !!!

I was just about to say that Gasquet looks good as I watch the replay on TC, then I log in here and find out he lost. Wow, how did that happen.

Watching some more of the match, it's obvious what happened - Richard has no legs. He's dead tired.

Anybody happen to notice that Sam Q is 2nd ranked American player, about to crack top 20, and has no points to defend for quite a while including losing 1st round at ausopen last year.

He also is facing FLopez in next round and that is a winnable match.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him take the #1 american player spot after Aus Open.

Go Samarai!

Quarters Tokyo:
Murray-Wawrinka
Tipsarevic-Raonic
Nishikori-Berdych
Tursunov-Bagdhatis

Quarters Beijing:
Djokovic-Melzer
Mayer-Zhang
Youzhny-Tsonga
Querey-Lopez

The Bagdaddy is fat. He's the next Nalbandian. Watching the replay of Monaco-Baghdatis.

great running FH from R crosscourt, short angle, to break in 2nd set
he stays lower, better movement

great day in Tokyo, read my novel:-)

And what a blistering 2HBH DTL return for 5-2 0-15

R breaks him to love for 2nd set

He's much more aggressive and more athletic

Nice to hear Mighty Milos might be playing to form.

Watched him here against MAndy and he was all undone by the frustration.

anyway, we'll remember this as the day when Raonic started to return from closer in

counts for a lot

getting to a clutch situation here, let's see
4-3

several great, high split-steps when coming to the next by Raonic
what I was asking him to do, a la Pete

Blistering shot down the line from Raonic and will now serve for the match after 4 very clutch serves in a row.

Raonic does it! I feel he showed improvement in this match by stepping in more on his returns but he still has a lot to work on.

Marius are we the only ones on here watching this match?

Perhaps so, but great match great commentators observing a change in R, he's becoming one of the most spectacular guys ... with more variety closer to Pete's style

I saw the last 2 sets of Milos' match - was v impressed. Some of the best I've seen him play. Will definitely give Murray a run for his money in the semis.

What's your forecast?

Murray really looked good in sets 1&3 this morning, Wawrinka when he was at his best.

Raonic wasn't even close to Murray at USO, can't see any different here.
