2012 Davis Cup World Group Semifinals - General Discussion Thread

Anyone else thought that the Czech was stupid NOT to put Rosol on the singles rubber? IMO he would have done much better than Stepanek, anyway he's playing doubles tmr and will look forward to that. Haven't seen him playing for a long time.

I'm glad people are excited about this.

Post - USO is such a deflating letdown (and I'm in NYC, so for us it's even worse, LOL).

Thanks for this thread, OP. :-)

No problem at all.

BTW, just found out the answer as to why Anderson isn't playing for South Africa this weekend. Apparently Anderson reported a knee injury and so pulled out of the World Group Playoffs. However, the South African team was shocked to find out that Anderson has committed to playing World Team Tennis, next week I think. To quote the reporter on Sportsnet, from which I'm getting this news, "Anderson chose money over his team".

I agree, even if they're making more money off MAndy right now.

(That was actually my first thought when you posted that picture - I was like "I didn't know Adidas could look that good." :p )

woooo doggies .... yep that crowd ..... woot Pico's riding that wave like a Kahuna!
wonderful for Pico to take the third set 6-1 on his serve! vamos pico ... beat berdy for the first time!!!

What makes you think Rosol would have done better? Have you seen his record since Wimbledon? I don't think he's won a single match.

So this isn't the first time they've played, but if he closes out this set it would be the first Pico victory?

Breadstick! Breadstick!
:-D

Does anyone *really* believe that Ivo Minar and Lukas Rosol will play doubles for the Czechs tomorrow?

I think they might have done that if the two first rubbers had turned out differently than they're going to.

But at this point the short answer to your question would probably be ... no.
:-)

P.S. I saw your man at the USO. He looked good. I really have to get those shots up I took.

Yes please. Any shot of DelPo is a power shot.

exactly ..... rosol is more inconsistent than dolgo!

uhhhhh ... could monaco be a head case?
i mean, he used to be a head case.
then he got a nice new coach.
now he's got the crowd behind him and berdy breaks!!! 4 all
not sure how berd is concentrating in all this ruckus

LOL.

I am sorry, though, that I don't have any shots of the gorgeous golden Sasha for you this year. The lines outside Armstrong were insane, and I had to choose between staying to the end of JMDP's match or waiting in that line and risk not getting to see anything at all, since Wawa was straight-setting him.

I was sure he'd go on to 4R too. But you pretty much wind him up with what you said in your sentence, LOLsigh. You never know which Sasha you're going to get.

Yeah, kinda hating it. I was hoping Pico would close it out and not let it go to 5. It felt like 10 minutes ago he was up 4-2.

yep ... these two have played six times between 2008 and 2011, 3 on hard and 3 on clay ... Tomas has won all six! :o

i'm definitely hating it ... berdy seems to be putting the crowd to the back of his mind mow and is bound to come on strong in a fifth!

Vamos!

¿Está ahí? ¿Está en el partido de la Copa Davis?

Surprisingly tight first set between Raonic and Scholtz. This guy Scholtz is actually impressing me. He's got a big serve and decent groundies. Also, this is his first ever Davis Cup match.

Not bad.

Ya han terminado por hoy , mañana a las 14:00 hora local de Gijón

amazing mode ... or was that tennis god mode pico was in to break 4-5

now CONVERT THAT BREAK, pico monaco!!!!!

while I realise that CEdric marcel Stebe isn't exactly Rafa, I would like to point out that, despite australians viewing him with some suspicion, the only person who has EVER beaten Tomic in Davis Cup is still Roger Federer, and that took 4 sets...

pity about Lleyton, though, that's messed it up..

Spain VS USA 1 set all. Meanwhile Fedrinka takes the 3rd and trails 1-2 in sets, only Roger Federer could take a set point in such GOAT fashion. :)

Argentina and the Czechs are warming up. As many suspected, the lineup for the latter has changed. It's Berdych/Stepanek.

There it is for the Bryans - thank you Granollers.

Unfortunate DF on MP. I understand one, possibly both, Spaniards were playing hurt.

Congratulations to the Bryans, though - winningest doublest team in the Open Era, extending their H2H over these guys (who've otherwise had a relatively successful partnership so far) to 3-1.

Anyone know what their injuries were? Looked like one had his calf wrapped and the other was wearing a calf-sleeve. I've had calf injuries before, and it just doesn't seem like either would have been moving the way they were if they really had a calf injury.

Argentine doubles team doesn't appear to have much fight.
D-Nal in stands. I'm sure he's wishing he could play.

Really looking forward to the Del Potro/Berdych match tomorrow. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll actually get to see it since the network showing Davis Cup here in Canada is only showing the Canada/South Africa WG Playoff tie and the Spain/USA semifinal tie.
