I'm extremely surprised by what's going on in this match. It's like the complete opposite of Wimbledon. Sharapova is blasting Kvitova off the court right now.

Not so surprising because I saw Kvitova at RG last year too and she was equally hopeless on clay then. Hope she does better at Wimbledon which appears to be her fav surface.

Sharapova pulls a Soderling and circles the wrong mark and the umpire agrees with her. Bad luck for Kvitova

Yeah. And when I said I don't understand why the umpires are expected to trust the players to point out the right marks, someone here said the umpires are trained to keep an eye on the ball mark as they get down from the chair and go to the spot. Ridiculous ! Just use hawkeye !

kitty was not prepared to fight and battle out there on the court today..sharapova frustrated her getting back so many balls into play.

maria knew that ball was good, lol.

I've suggested using Hawkeye on clay in the past and I was met with a lot of disagreement on here. This is at least the fourth time this tournament that an umpire has called a ball wrong according to Hawkeye (which is 99.8% accurate).

In Sharapova's defense here, she did shrug her shoulders when she circled the mark seemingly to tell the ump that she wasn't sure if that was the correct one or not.

So Maria is being a ***** again and Kvitova choking. This sucks.

I've never been a Sharapova cheerleader, but I thought she was going to win this match-up, and eventually the title. This is likely her last, best chance to win a major, so she's pulling out the stops...and about Kvitova...more on that later.

Yeah, I'm not really blaming Sharapova. More just that I think hawkeye should be used because the player/umpire has proven to be unreliable. Why not be as accurate as possible?

Anyway, congrats to Sharapova making the final

Totally agree here, if the players mostly accept Hawkeye why not give them the option

Yes I do agree, for all her barking/shrieking, I've never considered her a dirty player or a cheat.
But we do need Hawkeye so this nonsence can be eliminated.

Best chance? Absolutely. Last? I don't know...I feel like if she wins on Saturday, she would absolutely be favored for Wimbledon, and possibly the Open depending on Serena's health.

i'm not familiar with Errani at all, anyone think there is a chance at an upset?

Always a chance. Lendl lost to Chang in similar match-up - big strong power player against a steady retriever. Sanchez Vacario beat bigger stronger players. I am pulling for Maria but would like to see a good match as I like Errani too.

Hawkeye still has a margin of error of approx 3 mm which is why you will not see Hawkeye being used on clay for a while. There have been several shots between RG, Madrid, and Rome that Hawkeye has shown differently, and the players accepted the umpire's reading as correct with no debate because they see the mark that way as well. The umpire reading the ball mark on clay is still the way to go. Yes it's true that the players accept Hawkeye on hard court and grass, but if they are looking at a ball mark on clay, which is a true representation of the ball hitting the court, and Hawkeye, which is a guess only shows something different than what the players are looking at, it's going to cause more problems.

If they can get Hawkey's margin of error down to 1 mm or less, then I can see it, but not before.

Additionally, this was an issue with THIS umpire, but is it really that shocking? I mean after all watch these videos:

Woodrow, no issue with you here.
BUT the problem with the calls seems to be umpires picking the wrong marks on the clay. That really annoys the players(I know this from experience on both sides both calling lines & playing ITF tournaments where the chair umpire picked the wrong mark).
You guys have a tough job & I would hate to do it & put up with all the abuse you get. It must be hard to smile sometimes & bear it.
