Anyone noticed this 5 setter chain in the top half of the draw ? As you can see, each match is an improvement over the previous one in terms of drama and nail biter quality.

G Simon def B.Baker in 5 sets
S.Wawrinka def G Simon in 5 sets
JW Tsonga def S.Wawrinka in 5 sets (by breaking in the last game of the fifth)
N Djokovic def JW Tsonga in 5 sets (after saving 4 MPs)

If the trend continues, it should be

R Federer def N Djokovic in 5 sets (insert whatever can be more epic than saving 4 MPs :D)

Just got up this morning and every thread in this forum has this gif being posted after every fifth post.

Thanks.

Yeah, but if the trend continues ANY FURTHER than the semi .... :(

The Eagle in three sets.

^^^ Same here
but I have to admit that this GIF, when properly used, is almost invincible
One GIF to rule them all, One Gif to find them,
One Gif to bring them all and in the light bind them
In the Land of Basalt and Lindt, where the Eagle perches.

Nah, the trend applies only to the top half and it finishes with the semi :)
The trend for the bottom half is to dish out bagels/breadsticks until you eat one yourself in the next match

Federer did not point the finger at Djokovic, after not making a Slam final for more than a year, he was just pointing it to himself in a 'I am still good, I am still here' kinda way. Not really sending out a message.

The same scoreline as the Tsonga match, except for the fifth going 15-13

Roger however, GOAT that he is, trashes scripts, abuses trends and beats Rafa in the final ;)

The most exciting matchup in tennis nowdays. Scandal may win the whole thing, but he will never produce matches as exciting as these two. Can't wait!

It's on Friday. Semifinals will be played starting at 1 PM local time.

Still no word on who's playing first.

Last year Fed vs. Novak was the 2nd match.

I'm assuming that will be the case again this year as that is the more intriguing matchup and will be in their prime time.

The only reason they go on first is becasue they have had more rest, but I doubt it since Nadal and Ferrer still have an off day tomorrow.

What does everyone else think??

This ******* wants Novak to win, for the good of and love of tennis.

There, flame away....

I saw many said that they don't wanna see a Rafa Roger final where Roger will as usual lose. I beg to disagree. All streaks have to end one day. This will also. Nothing lasts forever and Roger is not a 100 ranked player. I seriously wonder what would have happened in last years RG final when Roger was just one point away from going a set up and didn't miss that dropshot. He was 5-2 and within no time he became 5-7, 0-2, he lost seven games in a row. Even though he was down a break in the second set, he fought back and took the set to tie breaker and there he lost it. He also won the third set though he was breadsticked in the fourth. I have faith in him. It was NEVER one sided and after that they never met in clay. Or may be I will never learn, lol

If Roger loses in the final, I would be at least happy that he saved 480 ranking points. I don't want Novak to win this FO as it would be a great achievement, winning four slams in a row. Something my hero, Roger Federer couldn't do. No way I want Novak to achieve that.. If Rafa wins, well it enhances his clay court legacy but seriously who doesn't know that he is a LEGEND on clay court ? So nothing new there

I never thought I would ever want Rafa to win a match but if at all Rafa versus Novak final comes, I would be certainly rooting for Rafa to win

I'm a federer fan as well, but I wouldn't mind djokovic winning four in a row, It wouldn't damage federer's already amazing line of achievements. It won't happen this year though, Federer in 4 sets!

However, Feather, th conditions last year were much quicker than this year. It will be hard to grind Ralph down, nigh on impossible. The guy stands in Suzanne Lenglen to receive serve in Philippe Chatrier, he moonballs everything until he forces an error... yawn... Every streak may end, but not this one this year.

I'll be happy if Novak gets through to challenge him, for he WON'T go AWOL in the match as Roger is prone to doing.

Djokovic winning a Djoker Slam would be a huge troutslap in the face of the mythical Fedal era, so I wouldn't mind it at all, if only for the trolling value here. Actually, I might be rooting a bit for it for that reason.

Regarding this match, I have absolutely no idea who has the best chance to take it. Fed has the experience and the pedigree, and Djoker has the ranking and the form. Hoping for a good match, without too much physical wear, so we get a great final too.

yes federer never won 4 slams in a row, but so what? djokovic will never win 16 slams or break many other records federer has set. If Nadal had lost at RG in 2006 or 2007 instead of 2009, Fed would have done it. That's the way the luck went.

A lot of people don't want to see Djokovic succeed because it gives him something over Federer and Nadal. But despite Fed being my all time favourite, I don't need him to have every record.

Nole destroyed Fed in Rome, no?

Federer playing better than Rome. Djokovic playing a little worse than Rome.

Nadal playing almost as good as 08 FO. Nadal wins in the end....it doesn't matter Federer or Djokovic who reaches the final.

At least the semifinal would be enjoyable than the rout that will happen in the final!

simple question...i've never heard it asked here and obviously never answered...if this is what nadal does to win six french opens, assuming many others would love to win one, why not emulate? (hurt their pride, fragile egos?)....of course you could just be exaggerating

Yes, Federer's form has been severely underrated in this tournament thus far. His only "bad" match was in the first round vs. Kamke. He played well against everyone else, they were just playing just as well. We saw the Federer of old in the final three sets vs. del Potro, with Roger stepping-up when it mattered.

Now we just need that Federer for the entirety of a match against Djokovic.

do you honestly think he'll beat nadal in the final though, or do you not mind?

I don't really care. I mean, I'd love to see Djokovic hold all four slams, but I can't root against Roger, even if it means he'd lose the final (which is a foregone conclusion).

The fact is though that Nadal, Federer and Djokovic now are just about knocking on the door of EVERY relevant record. Sampras never came close to winning the French, and in between Laver and Fed, only Sampras won 3 slams in a row. Now in the past 6 years, its been done 4 times by 3 different men.

Also consider the dominance of the trio. Barring anything major, 2012 will be the 6th straight year that the top 3 players in the world are Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Thats unheard of

no i understand that. just that you seemed to be quite invested in the next match, and didn't know what you thought his chances were. i haven't seen much of Fed's matches so far as i've been busy in america but i wasn't sure if Fed was playing well or not. From what I've seen he's been a bit patchy. but he might turn it on when it counts..

I don't actually think Federer is incapable of beating nadal at RG, but i think nadal is playing too good again and Roger never managed to take his chances in 2006, 2011 and maybe even 2007

yeah between them they will probably tie up most records.

Federer played quite possibly the worst I've ever seen (post 2003) against Del Potro in those first 2 sets. I think Djokovic is taking this one in 4 or 5.

I loved last year's match. For me, it was the best match of 2011. That's why I'm so excited for it, regardless of the implications. Federer's form hasn't been that bad this tournament, but he played brilliantly in the final three sets against del Potro. I hope he brings that form with him against Djokovic. If so, he has a very high chance of winning.

I agree. I think Federer can beat Nadal at RG, but there are so many things working against him there. There's the match-up issue which is obvious, the clay which magnifies it, and the mental block which must be at its peak at RG. But if he beats Novak and gets to the final, I hope the Indian Wells semi is fresh in his mind. He did all the right things in that match and, hopefully, he uses that strategy. He absolutely has to in order to win.

Federer probably has tons of confidence from his win over Del Potro, which he said to Espn after the match. He also said that he felt really good physically, which is a good sign, even though he will have 2 days to rest. If he serves well and mixes his shot selection up, there is no reason why can't beat Djokovic. It's not easy to tell who will win this match beforehand because one of them could show up playing really well and the other could have an off day. anything is possible, though I have a feeling that Federer will win in either 4 or 5. I feel like he has the mental edge.
