i just knew this was gonna happen because ferrer didn't have any self-belief. anyway, i hope roger and novak play another classic.

Nadal reaches his seventh RG final.

In the Open Era, he joins the following players that reached at least seven finals of a given one GS tournament.

Seven finals: Nadal (RG), Becker (WB), Sampras (WB), Federer (WB), Connors (UO).

Eight finals: Lendl (UO), Sampras (UO).

wow, nadal had only 16 unforced errors the whole match, and i know that 8 of them were committed in the first 5 games - same as ferrer. so from 3-2 in the first set, rafa only made 8 more mistakes until the match was over, while david made 27 more.

He still can beat his own record ( 41 games lost in 2008 RG ) but I doubt it (Federer or Djokovic surely will win more than 6 games in the final, obviously).

The 2nd semi is likely to be a fest of UEs. The best tennis you'll get to see today is the one Rafa was playing.

Yes, stupid organizers always push Rafa's matches to times nobody is watching. Why is that?!

Because Rafa is too dominant for a tight affair. The second semi might be more suspenseful (and that only if it's not a repeat of Rome) but the quality of tennis is likely to be less impressive. Fed makes tons of UEs when he's pushed around on clay.

yet the vast majority of fans prefers Federer-Djokovic, how stupid we are to prefer a fiest of unforcer errors rather than nadals beautiful tennis

GTFO

federer won only 4 games in the 08 final. but i do think he'll do better this time - maybe make it their usual four-setter. on the other hand, if it's djokovic, i can easily see that one going five sets, though i think four would be more realistic given what has happened so far. let's wait and see how the second semi plays out and then we can prognosticate again.

Nadal'12 vs. Djoko'11 on RG = 6-4; 7-6; 6-4
Nadal'12 vs. Djoko'12 on RG = 6-3; 6-1; 6-2
Nadal'12 vs. Federer (whatever year) on RG = 6-1; 6-2; 6-1

And you know it...

Those first three games were horrible.

dear God

You should have watched that era.

Borg was even faster than Nadal, playing on slower clay courts than today, with heavy and flexible wooden racquets with which you could not control the ball when hitting very hard.

Nobody could hit winners consistently from the baseline against Borg in RG in that era. He only lost two matches in RG in his career, against the same player, Adriano Panatta, who was a genius that could mix it up and attack the net consistently.

Im a popcorn fanatic. I literally live next to a movie theater too. I could walk over in 5 mins and get a hot, salty bucket of it :)

I always thought that you said that metaphorically as in "that will be intense or interesting", but now it turns out to be actually the case :)

what a stupid match. so disappointed with Ferrer for not even trying ... meh, the stupidest match of the year so far ... blah, Ferrer should be arrested for his performance

Wow, look how packed is the stadium right now. Good to know that people still appreciate real tennis instead of pushing...:)

Wow, this is the best Nadal ever. he will beat anybody that goes in front of him in the finals. Straight sets. It doesnt' matter if best ever Novak or Federer shows up.

right. nadal was out of sync then but david gave him the rhythm to get in sync quickly after that. i'm guessing if nadal were playing federer and he started out like that, it would have been a close set, or even a lost set, because federer would have disrupted his rhythm more.

I know, but that 2008 RG final was an anomaly.

I expect something like 3 or 4 sets (if it is Nadal-Federer, in any case Federer winning about 15-20 games), 4 or 5 sets (if it is Nadal-Djokovic).

I think right now surely only the best Federer or Djokovic2.0 can beat this Nadal this RG. Any less than that, and Nadal will win comfortably.

sadly, i wasn't born yet haha. i have watched a few matches online from back then and i thoroughly enjoyed them. i knew borg was great, one of the greatest ever for sure. but 32 games in a major is insane.

5 slam finals in a row for Rafa. Excluding Fed and Lendl, are there other players that have reached more than 4 slams in a row?

Off the top of my head (in the Open Era) only Laver ( 1969 ) and Agassi ( RG'99, WB'99, UO'99 and AO'00 ) reached four consecutive GS finals before Federer and Nadal.
