Who goes to the final?

I've dealt with tons of severe weather, they could have done one more game. Open your eyes, the weather isn't the reason for the stoppage!! It's all about the money! Why didn't they play Djokovic vs Ferrer at the same time as Murray Berdych when they knew the storm was coming??? Because tomorrow is the opening day of the NFL and they didn't want to compete with that for their final. Why didn't they let Ferrer serve out the set? Because they were afraid if Ferrer got a big lead he may end up winning and they'd have a final without Federer or Djokovic and that would hurt ratings. Smh

You summed it up pretty nicely there Bob......Kinda unfair to Ferrer.

I can't believe they wouldn't let Ferrer serve for the set. One game ffs.

Not the same at RG this year, BTW. They didn't stop when someone was about to serve for a set.

And why even start the match?.

They started it so that people would watch it, and get into it. That way when they stopped it people would be stuck on the cliff hanger and go out of their way to watch it tomorrow, even with all of the NFL games going. It just went horribly wrong for them. What they were hoping would be fairly close to get people interested ended up being Ferrer blowing Novak out, hence the stoppage before ferrer can win the set. Novak will have a chance to regroup. Also, people will tune in like crazy to see the underdog serving out the set.

Except for the fact that the US Open men's final is always originally scheduled for 4 PM EDT on Sunday--directly against NFL football.

So I gather that there's no rain, weather is absolutely fine, and play is stopped? After some Birdshit we get this? USO is getting worse every single year.

That said though it might slightly benefit Ferrer serving for the set tomorrow. In a way, unless Ferrer does some serious choking, he will win the 1st set, he is a double break up after all. This way Novak will have lost a set, rather than losing a set today and a fresh start on Sunday. In some sort of manner it's a better mentality edge.

For the love god people, this match and the other one shouldn't have taken place today but thanks to Americans being Americans, it's about their back pocket than the protection of the players and the entertainment value for the fans.

Screw this tournament and the people behind it.

the issue here for ferrer isn't that they didn't allow him to serve it out...that would have been nice, but he has a two-break lead...he should be able to do it tomorrow...the issue is the weather is supposed to be excellent tomorrow and nole's game will pick-up....ferrer needed alot to go right to have any chance to win and that includes bad weather...he wants to play in a hurricane...he was stronger mentally than nole today...he needed bad enough weather to play in but not bad enough to cancel...for his sake they should have went earlier, but i hate not seeing each semi get the star treatment

The matches really should have continued in the night instead of postponing it till tmr. After all they did plan an evening session for the women's final.

I hope the postponement allows Novak to get a good night's rest so he can come back and give David F a challenge. GOOOO DJOKOVIC!!!! :)

AMAZING how many people don't know what a hurricane is LMFO. Get out of here!! You must not be American, nor a learned man. They could have done 1 more game.

I know what a hurricane is, I thought someone mentioned one was on it's way and I just picked that up, but I didn't mean to say that. Til then I refered to it as a storm, but I don't really know what they are expecting, but it's obviously a safety concern and not just windy conditions. So what does it matter if it's storms, hurricanes, tornados etc? Point is they think it's a safety issue. Also maybe they could have played one more game but they have to evacuate a huge stadium! What if they game lasts 18 minutes? You don't continue to play tennis when a massive storm is on it's way.

Why start the match then, if a terrible hurricane is on its way?

Because they're idiots. Are you saying after being stupid initially with the schedule they then should contine being idiots to the point of risking everyone's saftey?

The bottom line is many people have not understood it was evacuated becaue they have an extreme weather warning which is a safety issue, not because it was windy and Novak complained.

It's all about capitalism. In order to compete, you gotta maximize that profit in order to create a positive rate of growth!

I can almost guarantee you that the final would be on at the same time as some football games. In fact, I'm not going to lie, it was going to conflict with a football game that I want to watch, so a Monday Final isn't horrible for me, I'm just upset that they picked money over the sport. I love tennis, and quite frankly it was abused today. No true tennis fans "other than Novak fans" are happy at all with how the day went. The Murray Berdych match was aweful and boring. Ferrer Novak was getting crazy, and the stopped it for $$$. Idc what anybody says, because I guarantee you the media is feeding the public false info for their gain.

EDIT: And the women's final is now tomorrow, so one of the finals would be booted out of the golden spot during which the NFL had minimal activity.

Starting the match was stupid.Should have been held on Louis Armstrong the same time as the other semi.

But one game can last 15 mins or longer and they have a huge packed stadium to evacuate, before the storms hit. So I understand them taking immediate action

I'd be most interested to know what the current weather is like at Flushing Meadows.

Well I knew this would happen, Ferrer getting off to a great start with Novak struggling in the unplayable conditions. What I don't get and really makes me angry is that the womens final was canceled half way through the Murray/Berdych match yet they decide to play this one.

Absolute joke this tournament is.

So would I. But you seriously think they evacuated a whole tennis complex, cos a few games early Novak complained? Sorry, Djokovic doesn't have Fedal levels of clout yet, and that would be pushing it even for Nadal or Federer.

Even if the storm doesn't hit the stadium, I believe they think it's enough of a risk. I mean if it was just unplayable conditions, you think they would evacuate?

I just utterly disappointed. After some crapfest Berdych finally played well yet choked in a TB. (kinda ironic that his initals are TB as well)

Now we can Ferrer actually playing well (he being consistent as usual), and now it's cancelled after half an hour of play.

Nadal has now called for his 2nd medical timeout of the match. His elbow seems to be bothering him. The first MTO was because of his knee.

Novak's Cvac machine cannot duplicate winds so they had to stop immediately as he couldnt adjust

I can't wait for the day when capitalism is thrown into the dustbin of history where it belongs, with the likes of slavery and feudalism.

Anyway, the point is, the US Open is the only major that allows the profit motive to dominate so utterly, even to the point where it harms the tournament. The other majors seem to realise that negative publicity is bad for business. The US Open never learns this lesson.

Could not agree more I love(d) this event but I am beyong p1ssed off today, Berdych was screwed over in the conditions and then they did not move Novaks match to Armstrong its just a disgrace how its bene handled a sad day for tennis.

Murray has an advantage now through weather and bad scheduling yet Rusedski on Sky is gloating about how he can put his feet up while other 2 slug it out, I dont know about major tournament but it certainly is a major **** take
