Murray has to have a certain arrogance going into this match. He has to think "this is my title, and nobody is going to stop me", because this is what Federer will be thinking.

Federer is the clear favourite, though, in my eyes.

Murray's previous 3 slam finals were played outside of Wimbledon. This is the first time he gets to play under his roof. Big difference.

Right. Brad Gilbert said, that is where Lendl comes in to give more swagger and winning thought before the final and into the final.

He must play aggressively for 5 sets, whether he's up or down.

I have become a fan of Tsonga :) He is outright crazy, inconsistent but sometimes hit great shots :) And everyone was confused when he started to hit 1HBH ....I hope he improves his game. Today he gifted the first two sets to Murray. It is highly unlikely that Federer will make as many errors as Tsonga and lose the game easily. Murray can do it if he grinds Federer down ...interesting final !

I can see either or winning. Gun to my head? Fed in 4 but i'm going w/Murray in 5 since i'd love for him to win a Slam and shake up the tennis world

Federer will have a screaming fast start using his arrogance and pride. I feel like Murray will have to stage an unlikely comeback to win this match. Federer in 4.

Exactly what I was thinking. Murray needs to ignore the idea that he is some sort of underdog if he is to win and play with the kind of swag and aggression on grass that Federer does.

Federer in 3; 6-2, 7-6, 6-4

I have predicted the right no. sets for all of Murray's matches this tourney - hopefully this time I am wrong!

Ok we all know by now that Fed will take back the number 1 spot if he wins on Sunday, but does anyone know about his chances of getting to the top if he loses?

im having a hard time picking who i want to win. if murray wins he will prob gain the confidence to win more slams and will have 4 elite players. it will make it even harder for fed to grab another slam. If fed wins, he gets to make history, I just hope murray can take the loss and build on the progress he has made.

Murray wasnt great today really. He showed some signs of pressure. Tsonga played like rubbish and still nearly took it to 5 sets. He will have to play at a much higher level in the final to win.

Murray played exceptionally well in the first two sets then really started to tire through the third.
Think the effects of the Ferrer match were kicking in.
He looked physically, and emotionally, exhausted after match point.
Not sure if he would have had enough to get through a fifth set.

I think this sunday will be changing of the guards. Out with old tired bad back Federer and in comes the new dominating Murray that will win multiple majors in a row.

Let's back off on the Start of the Murray Era proclamations. We know how that's gone in the past. :)

Just get one, Murray.

BTW, it wouldn't be a changing of the guard, as Fed hasn't been the guard for years.

While Murray played and served really well throughout this tournament, on the average I think Federer is playing more aggressively, and he certainly played some of his best against Djokovic. If Federer keeps it up and if Murray is content to stay back, I think Federer will win.

Not gonna predict what's gonna happen in this particular final but if Murray fails to win a set again, he's not going to win a major with the top 3 around.

Exactly. The changing of the guard from Federer to Nadal happened many years ago, then from Nadal to Djokovic last year. I could see Murray reaching #1 briefly but I cant see him ever having a little era with Djokovic and Nadal his age, even if he wins tommorow.

He always look like this, you are describing his face.

It is a chronic issue. Do you need to mention Federer's back in every post you make about him. You have brought it up at least a dozen times in the past few days.

Changing of the guard? How many times does Federer have to lose at Wimbledon for people to stop using corny phrases like "changing of the guard"? Seriously, that happened 4 years ago.

Also, if you insist on talking about chronic health problems, you should be fair

I think this sunday will be changing of the guards. Out with old tired bad back Federer and in comes the new dominating sciatica-afflicted and cortisone-pumping Murray that will win multiple majors in a row.

10. “I can mix up my game too well for [Andy] to get under my skin,” Federer told the Independent in 2009, talking about Murray’s defensive style. “Everybody has his own game and you can’t change the way you play. It’s just something you’re born with … If you want to be a top player you need to have offensive skills.”

9. Federer was surprised at beating Andy Murray so quickly in straight sets, their 2010 Australian Open final lasting just over two and a half hours.

“Sometimes it’s over before you know it,” Federer said in his post-match press conference.

8. In 2009, a reporter at Wimbledon asked Federer if Murray was his biggest threat. “No,” Federer replied.

7. Federer was unhappy with Murray, who withdrew from Federer’s hometown tournament in Basel with a gluteal injury this year before playing a single match. Murray had requested a last minute wild card from the tournament.

“I never saw [Murray] as a potential opponent anyway because I’m too focused on what I have to do,” Federer said. “I am sure it is somewhat disappointing for the tournament director after going through all the headaches with the wild cards.”

6. Federer, ranked No. 2 at the time, had some chilly comments for Murray when he reached a career-high World No. 3 in 2009.

“It’s nice but is there a big difference between being No. 3 and No. 4 in the world? I don’t think so,” Federer told the BBC. “It’s about being No. 1 or No. 2, being the top seed, being the top dog. That’s what it’s about for Andy. I won the U.S. Open and Rafa won the Australian Open. Murray unfortunately didn’t win [the World Tour Finals] …Djokovic did. He didn’t win the big ones but he was very solid in the Masters series.”

5. Federer had some harsh words for Murray’s recent success in the 2011 Asian swing.

“I’m not taking anything away from what he did but was Asia the strongest this year?” he said. “I’m not sure. Novak wasn’t there, I wasn’t there and Rafa lost early. But it has been a good effort by him after losing to Kevin Anderson in Montreal.”

4. “Good for him,” Federer said sarcastically after being told Murray was the betting favorite for the 2009 Australian Open. “I mean, it doesn’t help him a whole lot. He’s never won a Slam.”

3. Federer had an unflattering assessment of Murray’s efforts at the 2009 US Open.

“Maybe US Open you could think he crumbled there under pressure, being in the finals the year before.”

2. Federer put some effort into psyching Murray out before their 2010 Australian Open final.

“I know he’d like to win the first [Grand Slam title] for British tennis in, what is it, 150,000 years,” Federer joked in a post-match interview. “The poor guy has to go through those moments over and over again.”

Federer went further, toying with Andy. “It’s always very tactical against him. Andy, if you’re listening to me, here’s how it will go. I’ll come in on your backhand and you’ll pass me. I’ll drop-shot you and you’ll lob me. I’ll hit it between the legs. It will be something like that.”

“He’s in his second Grand Slam final now. I think the first one’s always a bit tougher than the second one, but not winning the first one doesn’t help second time around. He’s also playing me, someone who’s won many Grand Slams and been able to win here three times. I know what it takes and how to do it, which is definitely an advantage.”

“I don’t feel like the pressure’s really on me having to do it again, because I’ve done it before. I think he really needs it more than I do. I think the pressure’s big on him. We’ll see how he’s going to handle it. It’s not going to be easy for him, that’s for sure.”

1. Federer pulled no punches after losing to Murray in the first round of Dubai in 2008.

“He’s going to have to grind very hard for the next few years if he keeps playing this way. He tends to wait a lot for the mistake of the opponent,” said Federer. “He stands way far behind on the court and that means you’ve got to do a lot of running. I gave him the mistakes today but I think overall, over a 15-year career, you want to look to win a point more often than for an opponent to miss. That’s what served me well over the years but who knows, he might surprise us all and do it for 20 years.”

“I don’t think he’s changed his game a whole lot since I played him in the Bangkok final. Not that I’m disappointed but I really would have thought he would have changed it in some ways.”

Go Andy!!

Either outcome would be great.

I think Fred in 4 though...

Hopefully Murray does not melt down mentally and comes to play to win....

I lol'd!....Hopefully there will be some spicy pre match gamemanship interviews!

Will there be tears come match point?

This one will mean the most to either i think theres a better then evens chance of some blubbing.

Federer has owned Murray for the most part recently and has owned him in every single slam final (Murray hasn't even won a set).

His USO win was particularly glorious, getting a day's rest over neophyte finalist Murray, who got 18 hours to recuperate between downing Nadal and playing the biggest match of his life. The linecall in the second set was also replete with glory.

For Murray to win this match,he needs a positive start. If he starts running behind the score,it`s tough to imagine him coming back.
If Federer gets a lead he will get even more confident and will play even more aggressive and go for his shots. And then it`s tough for Murray to hang in there.

Objectively, I think Federer in 3 would be the right prediction, going by their past slam finals.

But emotionally, I think a Murray win here would be more satisfying than Fed's 7th (as epic as that feat is). Plus I think Murray finally getting the slam gorilla off his back (like zagor said) would open the floodgates and allow him to win more.

If Murray plays like he did in their Toronto and Shanghai finals I'd go for Murray in 5, only because Federer is almost impossible to put away easily.

If not, I'll pick Fed in 4, Murray taking set 2.

I don't know where you and Zagor are coming from to be honest. This could be the last chance for Federer to win a slam. As a Federer fan, I want him to have one last golden moment.

it will be historic to see jackson pill bite the pillow

I think Murray will play his best and will not choke in the grand slam final for the first time. 2 tight sets and 3rd easy set for Murray.

I just want Murray to take the ball on when he gets the chance. It will be really annoying if his nerves take over and he keeps hitting tentative mid-court balls for Federer to attack. I'd rather he loses 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, making 72 unforced errors via attacking shots, than watch him play all passive.
