Will there be tears come match point?

This one will mean the most to either i think theres a better then evens chance of some blubbing.

Whatever the outcome, I guess we gonna see tears from both players. So much to win and to lose for both of them.

I don't know where you and Zagor are coming from to be honest. This could be the last chance for Federer to win a slam. As a Federer fan, I want him to have one last golden moment.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited as a Fed fan as well. Both outcomes would be historic. But with Fed, I get the sense he can win the US Open one more time; but with Murray, if he loses on Sunday, I think it will be the beginning of the end for him.

But at any rate, let's hope the GOAT eagle flies on Sunday :)

I'm happy for the Fed fans. :) They've waited long enough to see Roger return to the finals in a major. Congratulations to Murray as well. Dude's a psycho and I can't pull for him, but congratulations to him for making the breakthrough.

I wish I could actually watch some of these wimby and roland matches live.

Looking forward to the US Open!

I'm convinced that Fed will win this in 4.

But I was also convinced that Djokovic was gonna clean Fed's clock.

So, since I pretty much suck at predicting the winner of these matches lately, go ahead and bet the house on Andy.

I think Andy might win this....Roger better where a cup though cause Andy seems to have new strategy for beating opponents now...as Tsonga found out.

C'mon, Andy doesn't have the weapons to win this, and unlike Tsonga, Fed isn't going to beat himself in this match.

Fed in straights or 4.

Don't you think the quality of Murray's returns might have had just a teensy-weensy little bit to do with that?

They had plenty to do with it. Murray was playing well, but I think Tsonga could have made played much better. He made so many terrible mistakes. He was playing random one handers, missing forehands that were halfway up the net, and showboating at the net. The volleys, in particular, were atrocious. He was trying funky half volleys, backspin drop shots, and just made life more difficult for himself at the net.

This is the first of Murray's 4 grand slam finals where I genuinely think he's got a great chance. He simply wasn't ready in 2008, Federer was out of this world in Aus2010 and he wasn't in decent form in Aus2011 (taking advantage of Nadal pulling out to get there).

But looking at his form this week/looking at Feds - I really believe he can grab this one. If he doesn't, it'll be by far his most disappointing GS final defeat out of the 4.

Murray played ok, but Tsonga was terrible.
the outcome could have been VERY different with an ON Tsonga.
he literally gave the match to Murray on a plate and remembered to give a **** when it was too late.

he deserved to lose anyway.

I don't know. Murray has played Tsonga 7 times now, at least once every year since 2007. He's won every single encounter with the sole exception of their 1st round match at 2008 AO. Now everyone agrees that Tsonga was at the height of his powers at that time. He went on to thrash Nadal in the semi-final and face Djokovic in the final during which he took the opening set before losing in 4. Yet even in that 1st round encounter, the score was 7-5, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(5) to Tsonga. So even at his best back then, he still got bagelled by a pre-prime Murray in that 3rd set and narrowly squeaked past him in a 4th set tie-breaker! Truth is, Murray has always been an awkward match-up for Tsonga whether he is 'ON' or 'NOT SO ON'.

I'm really torn on this. On the one hand I know for sure that a player I like is going to be Wimbledon champion on Sunday, but on the other there's a lot at stake for both of them.

This might be Federer's last chance to win Wimbledon, match Sampras's 7 and exceed his weeks at #1, and it might also be Murray's last chance to win a major (and Britain's best chance of having a Brit winning Wimbledon in the Men's Singles would disappear for another generation or two, or more).

I don't really believe either scenario, but at the same time who knows what might happen?

Finally a final that doesn't involve Nadal or Djokovic, looking forward to it. Hoping for the Muz to prevail in the fifth set, but my brain is telling me Fed in 3.

This is it for Murray. Now or never (as long as Nadal is healthy). Let's see what he is made of.

Fed looking like he's gonna take the number one ranking again. Allez Roger.

Don't think I'll be able to watch it. Probably record it and watch later if Andy doesn't get drubbed.

Come on my son!

I voted Fed in 4. However must admit Murray played against Ferrer and Tsonga surprisingly well - overall a good tournament for him (beating Karlovic, Cilic and so on) he's mentally strong.
I dont think he will play in the final his best- wont cope with the big stress

Outcome could have been different for Tsonga if he'd been ON 6 matches out of 7 against Murray now.

Federer in straights. Murray just won't have any gas left, and he'll crumple under the weight of Being The Sole Hope For His Country.

Good grief, a 5am start here in PT zone. Well, gotta do it.

That is a big worry after the exertions of getting to the final.
I mean Murray was in tears today.

It has only been two though. And one was Andy's first final.

All 15 of them?, very interesting.

Bro, so what? Andy Murray simply got walked over by Federer, even guys like Del Potro, Djokovic, Roddick, etc. in their final appearances against Federer made it competitive. Heck, even Baghdatis, Gonzalez, etc. made their first final appearances very competitive.

Murray got walked over for 5 sets straight until making the final set at the AO finally competitive. And with all the terrible play from Federer towards the end of the set, Murray still couldn't seal the deal.

If Fed wins Sunday, he deserves a statue overlooking Center Court. Unlikely that anyone will match this feat again, so there is no need to worry about the place getting crowded with statues.

If he loses, perhaps a statue overlooking the grounds on Henman/Murray hill.

:)

Why negative? Bitter that Tsonga lost yes...

Yes, you've made several comments about Murray now, and you have yet to give him any credit. You keep inferring that he only won because you think Tsonga played badly, and your disappointment about the outcome of todays match is clouding your judgement of the final. It's very childish. You should give Murray some credit and take a more objective outlook on Sunday's match.

I reckon this final will last about 90 minutes..Murray is going to get totally PUNKED! I don't even like his opponent:-| but this going to be a tennis lesson for Murray...UGH

i think andy's best chance of beating federer is to beat him like he always has, by making him play a ton of balls and playing great defense. 'attacking andy murray' surfaces in spurts, but is largely a myth. murray is a brilliant defender and that sort of player, historically, has troubled roger (canas, andy, nadal.)
keep the ball deep, frustrate him-federer is not a model of consistency from the baseline.

i just don't see andy murray doing a better job of attacking roger than vice-versa. other than the serve, of course. andy absolutely has to serve well, that goes without saying.

Baghdatis did take the first set, true, but he also got bagelled in the 3rd. Gonzalez got straight-setted!

Gonzalez was literally inches from taking the first set, and the second and third sets were competitive also (decided by a break each). Remember, Federer was playing at his absolute best this entire tournament.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray got simply rolled on for 5 straight sets. Not even remotely close.

Is that a fact? Of course, you do know that Murray has beaten Federer more times than Federer has beaten him? What, you mean you didn't? Why am I not surprised!

Not true! In their 2010 AO final, the first 2 sets were decided by just one break. In the 3rd, Murray went a double break up for 5-2 and then choked away his big lead. Even then, he held set-points in the tie-break which went to 11-9 before Federer finally converted! The score was 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(11-9).

For comparison, the score in Gonzalez's match was 7-6(7–2), 6-4, 6-4. One break in two of the sets and a breaker in the first which Fed won by a much bigger margin than in the breaker with Murray.

Murray needs to look at how Djokovic has beaten Federe in Slams - combining excellent defence with consistent attacking play. Djokoivc's style against Federer is good, he just couldn't execute it yesterday. If Murray could try and be more dominant like Djokovic, he'd have a small chance of pulling off the upset. The big problems though are, Djokovic is better mentally and can generate power consistently with his forehand unlike Murray.

Murray's return was wonderful against Tsonga. That won't make Fed's life very easy. I'm still taking Federer in 4, though.

Federer beat Djokovic, the best returner on tour, fairly decisively with his serve. I doubt Fed will be too worried about Murray's return, which is a league below Novak's

I picked Federer in 3. I can't lose in this one, since I'd also like to see Murray win.

It would be great if it went to an extended 5th set. I'm expecting to see some great tennis.

Can't imagine how many Britons, after being impressed by Federer's success over the years, are now reluctant to root against him, now that Murray is finally in the finals at Wimbledon against him!

While I am a long-time Fed fan, and haven't really liked watching Murray play, I'm kind of torn here. For me this final is a bit of a win win. I'd like to see Fed take the title, but in no way would I be disappointed if Murray were to beat him in a tough battle.
