Congratulations to the Fed. He's back. Never thought he'd win another major, let alone regain the #1 ranking.

He proved all us doubters wrong.

well, always thought he had an excellent shot at one more slam at the very least, but didn't think he'd regain #1 ....

I'm a Fed girl through and through and I never thought he would win another slam (even though I said that I did). And to grab #1 again. He's an amazing tennis player, seems to be a good person. He's great for tennis.

The H2H is now 8-8 but 3-0 for Federer in slam finals. Clear advantage for Federer. I hope we can now stop hearing how Murray is a bad matchup for Federer. I never felt that way the way I did about Nadal and to a lesser extent Djokovic. The overall H2H was always a slight mirage IMO, and I say that as a neutral in this case who isnt a fan of either player.

I do feel bad for Murray though. I wonder if he will ever win a slam. Here he had to play only one of the big 3 and still couldnt pull it off. Usually he will have to beat two of them which seems almost impossible for him. If anything all 3 matchups are turning more heavily against him as time goes on. Federer is the only one significantly older, and new threats are sure to emerge in a few years time. Also has he improved any as a player since 2009 now?

stroke wise ??? not that much. IMO, his BH is slightly weaker now, but serve is more reliable ( first serve % ) .... but mentally he has improved quite a bit ....

took djoker to 5 at the AO, broke him to get back in the 5th ..... now fought federer all the way in this wimbledon final , manage to survive the tsonga onslaught in the semis here in the 4th set ....

I'm gutted for Murray. Well played Federer, won that second set out of nowhere and was just immense from there on. Hope Murray can get one of these soon.

Federer just loving the crushed dreams of the Andys

A cocky speech my Federer but with his record you can't blame him :/ I was rooting for Federer but now I will be supporting Andy until we wins one....I think he will win one of them in the coming years, he is only 25.

Aww this is really sad, f*ck man.. Murray can win as much majors as he likes from now on man, he can win all of them for all I care. I just wanted Fed to win one more slam before retiring, I'm happy now.

Feel the same way. I keep telling myself I'll root for Murray to win a slam, but he keeps meeting Fed in finals. As sweet as this one is it is still a little bittersweet.

I'm all aboard the Andy Murray USO champion bandwagon.

ROGERRRRRRRRRRRRR, damn I'm so happy right now. Now he can retire in peace (not that I want him to anytime soon).

Feel so bad for Andy though, seriously hope he wins USO now.

You were 50/50 on who you wanted to win, how do you feel about everything?
I'm ok about it, surprisingly. I still think this was a good sign from Murray, finally winning a set and having Federer on the ropes in most of the second set.

In a strange way I think both those first two sets went to the wrong guy, Murray started off better in the first but Federer really turned it around, and then plays a terrible game at 4-4 to let Murray serve it out, and Murray was all over Fed in the 2nd and suddenly Fed plays two brilliant points out of nowhere at 30-30 at 6-5 to take that one.

With this final and the semi final against Djokovic at the AO, Murray really has shown he belongs with the top guys. He just needs some luck to go his way, and I really think it'll happen. He got a few monkeys off his back this tournament, first Brit to reach a final since the stone age, won his first set in a final. 4 finals in 5 years is good going.

Plus I'm happy to see Federer back to #1, equalling Sampras' 7 Wimbledons and breaking the weeks at #1 record. Hopefully he can take the Olympics too and then let Murray win the US Open

Gutted for Andy. Didn't play a bad match but Roger was a cut above. To be honest, this could have been straight sets for him.

Congrats to Roger and to all his fans. :)

My mum... "I hate Federer, I hate him."

The trolls here have nothing on her, what a wonderful moment spoiled
My mom, "Murray should wear polos like Federer. His neck is too long. See, Federer looks like a champion."

She was pulling for Murray, though.

Fed's a legend, I really feel privileged to have been able to watch the guy play so many years, what he achieved here given his age & mileage is simply amazing. He could have served better today but his creativity from the baseline and especially netplay were terrific today (people who still believe Mcenroe's nonsense at this point IMO don't really understand tennis), that slice is golden.

Regarding Murray, I think the fatigue of battling through his tough draw (in addition to his playing style) might have caught up with him in the 4th set and the roof while I didn't think it would helped Fed gain the upper hand from the baseline.

As I said before, this isn't the same Andy who freezes mentally n slam finals, not by a long shot, some might disagree but I'm certain he'll win a slam after his performance. Lendl has definitely proven to be the right choice, Murray showed up and fought till the bitter end today, a stark contrast to his other slam final performances.

With Nadal/Djokovic super-motivated after Wimbledon, exits, there is VERY LITTLE chance of that happening.

Personally, I think Djoko will likely be in God mode during that tournament. We will see a Nadal-Djoko final. Hopefully 5 sets..

but keep in mind that fed cannot win wimbledon since he failed to reach the SF in his last 2 attempts. foolproof logic aint it?

I gotta admit, I didn't think he had another Wimbledon in him after his performances there in 2010 and 2011. I did think he would beat Murray in the final though before the match.

That'll do Fed. Thanks.

Andy's speech was very hard to watch. But he played a great tournament and if anything he should stand by his first comment: "getting closer". Hope he keeps it up.

Poor Muzza. Unfortunately he only seems to start showing his emotions/character when he loses and that's when I warm to him. He played really well first set and a half, but after that he kinda burned out and Roger just took control.

I think he'll get a slam eventually, just not against Roger in the finals. It's like Federer's mental block against Nadal in finals, Murray seemed to give up the ghost after going two sets down.

Congratulations Roger Federer-- now retirement begins

Congratulations roger. Great way to go out just like Pete Sampras. Enjoy your retirement. We will miss you. Will roger still play the Olympics after this ?

Federer was massively helped by the roof. Wimbledon was essentially an indoor tournament this fortnight, kind of takes a bit away from this victory I think.

and what did that proof? nothing. he was unlucky to run into zoning Tberd and tsonga. that doesnt mean jack in the long run. look what happens to nadal when a nobody zones against him. same thing that shouldve happened against petzschner already.
so what does that mean? that nadal will never reach the R3 in wimbledon again? please..

Did anyone else notice how Fed went from looking tired to being fresh like new after the rain delay?

I agree with many others that Andy showed a lot of promise this tournament. While he didn't win a slam again, he's making progress in the right direction. He'll be fine. He just needs to take the positives out of this campaign and not lose belief. As long as he keeps going at it, I'm sure he will win one, maybe even as soon as US Open later this year.

I'll be rooting for Andy at US Open, even if he faces Roger again. ...and even if Roger's #1 ranking is on the line (will be a tough one for me though).
