I like how Tsonga's always philosophical in defeat, but it must be slightly annoying for his fans, as he doesn't seem to have the life or death mentality to winning or losing tennis matches, as Murray does for example.
Yeah it is annoying, because I expected more from him today. Last year I kinda expected him to be burnt out against Djokovic after the epic against Fed, and besides, Djoker was in great form. But today he just came out with the craziest game plan and was playing so erratically/crazily that I became convinced he had at least temporarily lost his mind. Like suddenly switching to a 1HB in a rally; playing it occasionally on the run is one thing, but actually switching to it during rally play two sets down for no apparent reason is quite another. I'm sure his unpredictable, aggressive game is quite entertaining for the neutrals, but from a fan's perspective, we just want him to play somewhat sensibly and go for the win today. If he had actually had his head screwed on properly today I don't see why he couldn't have won. And the mental aspect of his game seemed to be something he was improving on.
I'm still unsure whether he was struggling with his back during the match or not. When I was watching it, I was convinced that was the case, considering his almost unwillingness to play at the baseline
at all (he seemed to be having trouble with movement). Now I'm not so sure. But when his backhand and especially FH is firing I don't see why he can't beat Murray in the rallies; he bossed Djokovic from the baseline for a good two and a half hours at the FO earlier this year. Unfortunately his FH and BH were not firing consistently today and Jo just didn't have his head screwed on or a realistic gameplan, and that cost him the match.
I want to see him get a coach now and maybe switch back to a Wilson racquet.
