Literally every single person who picked somebody other than Paire has been knocked out. We're 1 upset away from the greatest "bloodshed" in SDL history.

Still not too late for anyone who wants to join. You can still choose from these matches:

Kei Nishikori (JPN) vs Julien Benneteau (FRA)
Benoit Paire (FRA) vs [Q] Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA)

lol no but I really think he is going to win he was on fire in the qualies and Paire is known to troll.

And it looks like I'm the only person at 8th who can be over-taken- barely! On one hand, to get to 8th over a year and knocked in to 9th at the final hurdke......SUCKS! On the other hand, I bow :)

Please change my day 1 pick to Herbert

This change, made only about 5 minutes before the first point, turns out to be the only thing stopping a complete mass exodus. I knew Paris was a tough tournament to predict coming in, but this is pretty much unheard of.

Because of this massive wipe-out, 6 more people have clinched their spots in the top 8 (joining dcdoorknob):
********, FEDERERNADAL13, Ico, CDNguy87, Jeepers, and Stringertom.

The scenario for the 8th and final spot is quite simple: romeo8880 will barely sneak into the 8th spot if he wins Paris outright. If he does anything else, PDJ will hang on to his current position.

Frankly, I think if romeo8880 can make another 6 correct picks to win here he deserves 10,000 bonus points and automatic Year End #1.

Benoit Paire, aka King of Trolls, was good for a pair; I thought it would be a pair of sets but instead it was a pair of games per set.

Nothing like backing in to the Top 8, thanks to the biggest calamity ever. Good luck, Romeo! It would be very macabre if Herbert pulls a JJBercy'12 and makes the finals but wins.

Haha.........congrats Romeo........barely escaped the massive bloodshed.
As for the rest of us........see yo in. OZ Open

There's still the WTF event open to everybody (as well as the Top 8 Bonus competition) next week. I'l probably start a thread on that later tonight, since everyone except romeo presumably decided to tank Paris to rest their knees for London.

Also, this Paris debacle got me thinking about a new potential rule for next year: For future SDL events, if everybody gets knocked out in the first round/day/pick, essentially we could make it a wash and everybody will get a second chance to start over the next round/day. What would everybody think of this rule? I may make it a poll in the WTF SDL thread so people can vote on it.

I emphasize it would only apply to the first pick of a tournament and only if everybody got knocked out. So it wouldn't have applied even today because of romeo. But I feel this could be a useful "emergency" policy that would enhance the competition without really giving anybody an unfair comparative advantage.

I also emphasize how extremely unlikely this ever is to occur in practice. I've been playing this for almost 2 years and this is was by far the closest it's ever come to occurring.

Good contingency plan CDNguy. aLSO, thanks for the info about WTF. I thought only the top 8 can play. Didn't really read thru' with the sdl rules/guidelines

LOL, there goes my road to qualifying. Romeo deserves a 1000 points for surviviing that massacre.

I think this is the first time in history of SDL that everyone but 1 surivived.

Paire determined to live up to Ljubivic standards.

Oh my, lol. Went away for a few days and there's only 1 person left after the first day! I guess I should count myself lucky for forgetting to make a pick.

Berdych's loss to Ferrer puts an end to romeo8880's Paris run. As a result, PDJ has clinched the final spot in the Top 8.
