The 2013 ATP World Tour Finals

It starts Monday the 4th of November with the final on Monday the 11th of November.

The field is:
Nadal ( best result 2010 runner up, this will be his 6th appearance )
Djokovic (2x Champion, 7th appearance)
Ferrer (2007 runner up, 5th ppearance)
del Potro (2009 runner up, 4th appearance)
Berdych (2011 SF, 4th appearance )
Federer (6x Champion, 12th appearance)
Wawrinka (Debut)
Gasquet (2007 RR, 2nd appearance)

Alternates should be Tsonga and Raonic

Interesting fact (not really) 6 of the 8 possess Olympic medals.

Who will win?

Guessing Del Potro. Really don't know who'll win this one, while normally I have an idea of someone being the clear favorite.

It could be Delpo, Nadal, Djokovic and an outside chance for Federer and Berdych.

Fed is obviously the favorite but it should be interesting.

Obviously? Not sure why you consider him the favorite over Djokovic, especially considering the latter's consecutive tournament wins.

I actually hadn't realized that Ferrer was runner-up in 2007, remarkable as he generally got better results after 2007.

The groups could be mixed up depending on who reached the paris final.

If Rafa and Nole reach the final of Paris then neither will play on Monday despite being in different groups. So I have heard anyway.

Djokovic is the man to beat but I doubt he'll win it this time. After winning China Open and Shanghai Masters back to back and going deep in Paris, I don't see him defending the WTF title.

The winner will be Nadal or Del Potro.

Cabrito will struggle to reach the semis this year.

If Djokovic tanks Paris he will win WTF. If he keeps being stubborn and goes all the way to final in Bercy, then Delpo or maybe inspired Fed have chances to win it.
One thing is certain. Nadal is not winning WTF. Never was and never will.

Also Berdych, Ferrer and Gasquet have no chance whatsoever. Wawrinka has 1% chance to make a surprise.

EDIT: Sorry I was wrong. Wawrinka has no chance whatsoever too.

lol really? This is one of his best chance to win the YEC, but its not a given that he'll take it like you're implying.

On topic, I will vote after today's RFederer match. If he wins, I am backing RFederer to lift the YEC trophy for the record 7th time, otherwise its between RNadal and NDjokovic. IMO, JMDPotro is not consistent to beat top players back-to-back unfortunately, so I am counting him out.

This is not good. He wins tourneys and people start claiming that he will WTF and GSs. One loss and you loose your faith. Rather believe, its never too late. :)

You guys get in trouble saying what Rafa can "never" do. The WTF is about the LAST thing you guys can possibly cling on to and make that statement for. He's not the favorite but certainly has a shot.

On another tennis forum, months ago, a Fed fan predicted Nadal would never win Cincinnati in his career. :)

He hasn't beaten neither NDjokovic nor RNadal this year - two opponents he'll DEFINITELY face at WTF under similar conditions. Unless RFederer beats any of these two, its still in doubt. GS is altogether different, I am not talking about that.

About having faith in my hero, don't worry ;)
I'll always support and back him even in his worst times unlike some of the fans.

Nadal will waste no energy in the round robin, while the other favorites - Djokovic, Del Potro, and Federer - beat themselves up in the other half. His best shot yet, for sure, and I think he'll take it.

Let's suppose the draw was like this:

Nadal / Gasquet / Federer / Wawrinka
Djokovic / Del Potro / Ferrer / Berdych

Would that make a difference for Nadal ? Be honest ?? :)

Gasquet more of a threat than Berdych are you kidding me ?

And Federer ? I mean Federer 2013? lmao
Nadal/Ferrer are 3/3 on hardcourt by the way

It's indoors. Federer is a monster indoors. In good form, he's the best indoors player in the world, bar none.

And Berdych's a fangirl, I doubt that match with Nadal is even competitive. Gasquet may have a one handed backhand but indoors, I think he will prove to be a tougher opponent for Nadal than Berdych

You know what's funny?

Fed fans whinged he was in Rafa's quarter when WIM and USO draws came out. Now when WTF draw comes out, they whinge Fed's not in Nadal's section.

Berdych, Gasquet, and Wawrinka are all virtual walkovers for Nadal. Ferrer could put up a challenge, but I don't think he'll win. Federer is still playing some great indoor tennis, and he's 4-0 against Nadal indoors. Nadal would still probably win, given their current forms, but he's a much bigger challenge than anyone actually in Nadal's group. Del Potro, of course, goes without saying.

In any case, there's no use whining about the draw. Nadal will almost certainly make the semifinal, but he still has to win the semi and the final. If he wins, he wins - it's up to the other players to stop him.

Djokovic is the favourite but Fed and Nadal are both unpredictable.

djokovicisananimal

Professional
Group A: Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Tomas Berdych, Stanislas Wawrinka

Group B: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Juan Martin Del Potro, Richard Gasquet

My predictions are as follows:

Group A Winner: Rafael Nadal
Ground A Runner Up: David Ferrer

Ground B Winner: Novak Djokovic
Group B Runner Up: Roger Federer

Considering that Nadal has never beaten Federer at WTF in many attempts over the years, yes, I'd say it would make a big difference. There is no denying group B is much stronger than group A. Fed and Djoko have won 8 WTF titles between them. How many WTF titles in group A? The only thing that could have made group B even stronger is adding Ferrer: Fed, Djoko, Delpo, Ferrer: only WTF finalists and multiple indoor events winners!!!! Gasquet gives the poor buggers a bit of a breather. But still. Sometimes it's not about ranking but more about how players perform on a specific surface.

Delpo and Ferrer could not have been in the same group They are #3 and #4 seeds. So the group B is as hard as it could have been.

I don't know why nobody is mentioning this but the groups you're making are impossible. You can't put Gasquet and Wawrinka in the same group and you can't put Delpo and Ferrer in the same group. In your example, Nadal has got the #6, #7 and #8 seeds in his group so it wouldn't be a surprise if your hypothetical group A was easier. Seriously, wtf dude, use your brain:-?

Also, at least Nadal has a reasonable chance of beating Nadal. All of the guys that are currently in his group don't, except a very small chance for Ferrer but he can't do it 2 tournaments in a row.

Before WTF starts, let's look at the 8 guys' 2013 hall of fame from best to worst:

1- Nadal: 10 titles (2 slams, 5 masters, 2 500, 1 250), + 3 finals
2- Djokovic: 6 titles (1 slam, 3 masters, 2 500),+ 2 slam finals
(after that should have come Murray with 1 slam, 1 master, 2 250, + 1 slam final . He will be sorely missed)
3- Del Potro: 4 titles ( 4 500, wow he really likes those!), + 2 master finals
4- Gasquet: 3 titles (all 250)
5- Ferrer: 2 250 + a streak of 7 finals lost (poor guy :()
6- Wawrinka: 1 250 + 3 finals
7- Federer: 1 250 + 2 finals
8- Berdych (everyone's favorite lapdog lol): 3 finals, no cigar

Will WTF be Fed's wake up call? It sure feels weird to have him all the way down the list. We're not used to finding him there...

(Michael: thanks)

Who are the two alternates this year?

I'm thinking Tsonga if he is not still injured will be one and maybe Almagro???

Edit: Tsonga and Raonic I should read the posts first. :)

If I'm Gasquet I would say what the hell lets go mad and attack the net like hell in every match, atleast to entertain the crowd.

Delpo FTW.

Good idea. Lets do this more often, also in match threads. It gives the people who were right just a little bit of recognition ;)

Court bouncing very high this year. I know someone who worked on the court construction who confirmed as much. Uncle Toni has a lot to answer for.

Yeah, a good way to see those voted properly.

In some instances the poll can be closed in time, although not if you create it within a day of the match. I messed up the date this time.
