2013 Bracketology

If most of these hold up (accounting for non-conference matches for first 2 rounds), it would mean VCU would play @ #2 UVA and Notre Dame would play @ #4 Ohio State for the third consecutive year...

As unfair as that should be for teams with upset potential over lower ranked hosts, it will probably end up being that way anyways

It's a pretty bad break for both teams. Ohio State hasn't lost in a decade at home.

the selection people should save themselves some time and just go ahead and slot Georgia into the final. The teams they would have faced will understand.

I AGREE!!!! I HOPE we get there!! IM JUST NOT AS CONFIDENT AS YOU DAWGIE DAWG!!!! LETS GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im a little scared of Virginia... OHHH i forgot its the post season.. We will be fine!!!!!

yeah exactly. Boland and his boys like to impress people in February. Dommy-Jan dosen't like May nor does Jay-Jay. They know their time is in the cold months but come May it's time for other teams.

Remember when UGA couldn't even make the semis on their home courts last year with a better team than this year - that was the easiest prediction of my life - at least Diaz and co made me look smart by sucking, though they disappointed the fans :)

Hopefully you guys lose to someone respectable like UVA this year rather than pepperdine again

The UVA saga is sort of fascinating. It is really interesting to see if the can finally pull if off. Do you think the guys who have been there before (which is most of the team) will be negatively affected by the pressure of finally getting the monkey off their back, or does it work the opposite way - "we've never won, we've lost when we've had a great chance to win, we know firsthand there are no guarantees, so what's to be nervous about?"

It really will be interesting to see if UVA can finally pull it off. To have such a stacked team year after year and not win one NCAA championship would be kind of sad when they start their decline. Not that that is going happen anytime soon but you never know. In my mind the Indoor title is just as important as the NCAAs and they already have five of those. But it's like Lendl never winning Wimbledon, Borg never winning the US Open or Sampras never winning the French. College tennis fans will always talk about UVA as an incomplete champion until they win the NCAA. I think they'll do it this year and finally get that monkey off their back.

those that have struggled in NCAAs individually will be negatively affected, i think, most notably justin shane

honestly if i were boland i'm not sure i'd play him - i'd play mac, r shane, and julen at the bottom half - i just don't trust his psyche in the clutch, even if he has more experience than his similarly talented brother

most of the others have done okay individually, they've just run into some tough teams / players like USC and stevie j, and they should be very experienced and confident this year

I would definitely play Uriguen. He is money in clutch time. As the season goes on Styslinger and Ryan Shane are looking like the vulnerable spots for Virginia. But the top 3 is so good, it will take a monumental effort a la a Sarmiento last year to knock off one of the top 3 for Virginia. Only exception would be Blaz Rola.

for those that don't know the history:

jshane two years ago - first player beaten, badly, in singles in NCAA final: http://www.virginiasports.com/sports/m-tennis/spec-rel/052411aac.html

jshane last year - lost the match that clinched it, after serving for it at 5-4 in third: http://www.virginiasports.com/sports/m-tennis/spec-rel/052312aaa.html

might be tough to shake those memories if he's in another tough match with the title on the line

but i give boland credit, he's going to most likely do the admirable thing and stick with his man through the tough times, whereas i'd probably pull the plug on shane in clutch NCAA matches and never let him have the chance he needs to redeem himself

That's a real track record you laid out there. Should take it a step further and fire Boland for the Sabazz match and his inability win the title.

come on dude - read what i actually said - if anything i credited boland, as i always do, by saying he will likely make a more admirable decision come this tourney than i would have the guts to do

above the question was asked about how UVA's players would be affected by their past history - and this is one player i think may be haunted if he gets to a third final by what happened in his first two - simple as that

if you don't agree with that, that's totally reasonable, but don't go putting totally different words in my mouth

fwiw, boland handled the shabaz thing admirably, saying he was very disappointed in him representing the program that way - i forget the exact words, but he didn't take it easy on shabaz for that incident - boland is a good tough coach who i never (i don't think?) say anything bad about

What happened with Shabazz?

What happened with Shabazz?

walked off court in ncaa semifinal vs stevie j after some umpire decisions he didn't agree with - i think the last was a point penalty or something for slapping a missed serve that was returned his way over the fence - forget the exact details but it can be found via google i'm sure

Boland even shouted "No" at Shabaz from the stands as Shabaz started to walk towards the net.

in the 1st round of the same tournament, Shabaz's opponent Arevalo of Tulsa got defaulted after 2 games.

I remember the Shabazz match too. And I remember Boland sayng how disappointed he was about that. I can't remember Boland ever being less than a great coach and representative of what college tennis should be about.

Just remembered but wasn't Shabazz thrown out of the stands during last year's NCAA tourney as well? For heckling or something.

Dude, I'm totally messing with you. I will say it would be totally irrisponsible and even of greater future demise of the team if Boland took one of his top players all year and sat him in a big match, because of a couple of tough losses. Boland has to believe in his starters in words and actions. Boland has to believe in the kid for his other players to have that same belief. You know it and everyone here knows it.

yes he was. Also I heard that Tony Bresky got a warning as well.

UVA was penalized a point on the #4 match this Sunday vs. Wake in the ACC finals because of one of the UVA players was behind the curtain at Duke indoor courts and called the Wake player something VERY obscene.

Not a surprise that they would want to call Adam Lee things. But still you can't do that. I'm surprised Virginia did it.

wow very classy I must say.

Vandy must have moved to #16 in the unreleased rankings, to be released Thursday.
KY/Michigan will be fun, SCarolina/Duke could be good as well
LSU/Stanford solid
See BYU taking out Ole Miss
Harvard maybe over MS State

Two tough first round matches: Memphis-BYU and VCU-Minnesota.

I guess the SEC fans can start talking smack about how Virginia will be impeded on our way to the finals. Looks like Florida, Tennessee/Miss.State winner, and Georgia in the three rounds before the final.

i really am speechless at the stupidity of the dumbsh!ts who seeded this tournament - ok not totally, here i go:

they're aware UVA was not only the only undefeated but also won the same major national tournament that UCLA lost in the semis of earlier this year, right???

what possible explanation??? besides - "a mathematical formula trumps common sense" - wow!

Bama\USD could be a barn burner as well.

Cal/FSU will be good
Baylor/Tulsa could be entertaining for the Chair Officials if they end up meeting
