This year has by far been the worst to watch as a Federer fan. Not because of his level of play. But what seems to be his attitude on court - annoyed, disinterested. I don't know if that is actually how he feels but it certainly feels like it.

I was pretty happy with the AO this year. Even though he lost, you could see he was fighting as hard as he could which is all one can ask for at this stage of his career.

But it's just gotten worse from there. Horrible stuff.

He beat Jo Willy this year, in AO QF, in 5 sets.

Against a top 10 player... at the Australian Open (in 5)

Federer, it's time to enter semi ninja mode (please)..

Good start there with a blitzed FH DTL.

Roger is trying to play containing backhands off Youzhny's own flat backhands and relying on redirections of pace. The long and short of it, he's lacking confidence in the stroke and only wants to play a containing game off that side.

Roger just never got back to neutrality in the rally... a resilient effort though.

The flatness of Youzhny's strokes are causing Fed all manner of problems. When he does try to control the pace with more spin rather than flatter redirections he often ends up failing badly.

Youzhny holds, then.

These days Federer's forehand either misses by a mile, or has insufficient depth when it lands in. Probably about the 50th best on tour.

Federer hot and cold today, the problem is that he's cold 85% of the time, the only reason he's still in this match is because of his serve.

it's not so much the fact that he makes a ton of unforced errors. it's the way that he makes them. On easy slices, on easy forehand rally shots, on easy backhands. And he doesn't take his chances, doesn't take the initiative. Every half decent ball is followed by an appalling one...

Completely agree. And that all the more keeps making me think that he's just half-as*ing it on the court even if that's actually not the case. So disappointing to watch.
