Looks like a tight doubles point coming down to #1
Indiana giving Oklahoma all it wants - IU up 2-1
It would be big for OU if Alvarez can finish off this tiebreak. Looks like all the pressure could be on a MacTaggart/Alcorta 3rd set.
Any predictions on UK and OU this weekend? I'll be there!
Before today I would have said Oklahoma but after the way they struggled against Indiana who knows. I like Oklahoma at 4 and 6 singles and Kentucky at 2 and 5. I think 1 and 3 are both tossups. Could be one of those matches that goes 4-3 with the team taking doubles getting the win.
USC squeaks out the doubles point against Texas by breaking at 3 to win 8-6. Gomez and Johnson got destroyed at 2 losing 8-1. Sarmiento and Hanfmann won 8-6 at 1.
ahh finally. Semenzato is inserted at #4.
Oklahoma squeak it out which they just deserved, not sure if they played down or IU played up but it was close on 4 courts and IU took the dubs. Again IU's freshman Sam Monette impressed me. I think he will be a very solid player down the road.
How about Stanford whippin' up on BYU 7-0. 4 of the 6 singles were straight sets and the closest doubles was 8-5. BYU gave UCLA a somewhat decent match a week ago.
Having now seen Indiana play UK and OK I think Kentucky were marginally better but that doesnt really mean much. It will be close and Id be surprised if both stay top 10 all season.
Illinois coming out strong in singles. Leading on 4 courts early.
It's early Jaggy. UK has stepped up and has improved in all their matches against ranked opponents which has been their last 3. Cinc just joined the team and is solid at #5. The only losses they've had have been in the 3 and 4 spots. One guy was injured all fall and #4 is a Freshman.
So If they can shore up the middle of their lineup I would say they could stay near and just in the top 10 all year.
Semenzato must be a little rusty - got bageled in the 1st set
shaking my head at this lineup - though i think duke will pull it out
this is why it's time 1) to stop pretending saba is suddenly way better than mengel - never has been better, never will be - mengel can get a win way higher than #5 and 2) you make semenzato prove himself somewhere before a big match on the road - first match jitters + big indoor illini crowd = bad news
tahir on the bench while bruno gets whacked makes me cringe
ps who can name the last time two brunos played against eachother in a D1 match? not me
gonna be either hemmeler or redlicki that saves the day for duke - saba is a fighter but hilzik is no easy out from a set down, and well bruno...
Time for some Dukies to salvage some reputation for the ACC. I have Duke rated a tiny bit better than Ohio State this year, but it looks like an off night for them. Based on fall results, I have to think that Semmeler is better than Guignon, and I would have picked Tahir also over Guignon at #6.
USC shuts out Texas 7-0. All straight sets wins with #6 the only close one.
come on duke bruno - there you go!
Duke vs Illinois. Two Brunos going at it at No. 4 singles. What are the odds of that?
nevermind duke bruno - is it too late to have you take the fall for whatever capra did to lose her season?
Getting interesting now tied at 2. Hiltzik up 2-0 in the 3rd and Guignon a game away from winning at 6. This upset could happen.
yep, gut check time for hemmeler
Surprised. Duke must have been looking ahead or something.
Tied at 3 and Hiltzik now up 3-0 in the 3rd. This would be a stunner.
Based on the strength of summer and fall results for a number of Duke players, it makes no sense. Of course, based on those results, it makes no sense to me for Saba to play #2, and now he has to make a comeback victory ... or else.
i guess the coming weeks will tell whether the illini are better than their early season results or whether duke simply isn't a title contender this year
or whether cunha-mengel-redlicki-saba-tahir-hemmeler is a much more intelligent lineup
Lots of lineups seem better, but then again, Hemmeler should win at #6 against Illinois.
Hiltzik finishes it - yeah this one doesn't make much sense. How does Illinois go from getting thumped by Tennessee and Tulsa then turn around and do this. Head scratcher.
true, plenty of responsibility for the players as well for this one
long way to go if they're going to be a team competing for the ACC title / final four / etc
Duke should have waited to insert Semenzato for Notre Dame. Illinois may have seemed weaker this year but they are still a college tennis force and teams just don't go into Champaigne and roll up the Illini. I don't know how Semezato plays but I would guess that he may be a better outdoor player while Tahir a better indoor player.
Evan King def 2 Matija Pecotic 6-0 6-1
Missed the Duke/Illinois match tonight.
MikeJ, I know we discussed Semenzato earlier in another thread and if he even would be in the lineup at all, but did you ever imagine him being thrown in at #4? And what the heck in Mengel doing at #5? I figure Duke might've pulled out the win had he and Saba switched places in the lineup.
Dancer obviously gave his team a pep talk after last week's losses.
Stanford sends BYU home licking their wounds.

Ohio State preparing for Sunday's big match vs Georgia
Mikej, I wouldn't be too upset about losing to Illinois. From a coach's perspective that match represents the perfect match for Duke to tinker with the line-up. You already qualified for the team indoor tournament so it is not as important of a match. At some point during the season a coach needs to see what his players can do in different situations. Also, contrary to what some may say here. Dancer is a good coach. As an Illini, I am surprised they won but not surprised that Illinois played a lot better. Remember, this was an important match for Illinois for NCAA seeding.
It might have been an important match for Duke for NCAA seeding, also. If they drop to #6 in May because of this match, that means their path is against the 3-2-1 seeds, for example.
It will hurt their ranking all year. I assume that will be their worst loss of the season unless they find a way to lose to UNC again. Not only did Duke lose but they got handled on 3 courts. Only Saba gave a fight. Cunha and Mengel had mismatches but the other 3 really gave a poor performance.
#15 Tennessee at #25 Illinois – 7pm est/6pm cst – LiveStats & UTBlog
Tennessee takes the doubles point over Illinois. UT's #3 served for it up 7-6 but got broke before taking it in the TB 7-4. Will be interesting to see if Illinois can do it again in singles tonight.
Topdawg, I checked out the Live Video cam from the Huskies site last night. and it was Awsome. Crystal clear video. I wished the cam was little closer down to the courts but you can't ask for everything. Huskies done a Class A job on this one. I only hope during the tournament when the Webcam Traffic is much busier, it doesn't have the problem with slowing down or freezing.
but last night, NO problems there.
Why doesn't Illinois still don't have the Webcams up yet ? They are supposed to have this operational by the time NCAA tournament gets going in May.
Nostradamus knows web cam!
I watched a few minutes as well - what was even better is you could open up different courts in multiple windows - lots of times when you open up a second court it will override the court you already have open. Even had sound as well on all courts.
Illinois live stats is a full 5 minutes behind based off UT blog.
Tennessee shuts out Illinois 4-0. Illini not able to ride that high from last night.
2 top 10 matchups tomorrow.

cool my friend play at longwood in VA
Tentative lineup has Singh, Pasha, Wagland, Pieters, Eric Diaz, Nick Wood. Don't think there is anyway Diaz plays 5 unless Austin Smith is out.
Ohio State going Kobelt, Rola, McCarthy, Van Engelen, Connor Smith, Chris Diaz
Separate names with a comma.
