2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - Champaign, IL

Santamaria has to be bummed tonight. She started out playing fantastic singles. She twice served for the first set against Gibbs who fought hard to turn things around. Maybe just a little more experience on Gibbs side. Santamaria, from my limited experience watching, seems to dictate points more than nearly all the other top girls despite the fact that she is smaller than them all. Her game is fun to watch.

Gibbs is a future pro tour player and has already won the NCAA singles crown. Santa has nothing to be ashamed of. Gabi really should have pulled her match out. She had been playing better tennis than Ellen all year long.

Really HUGE Salute to Danielle Lao. this small girl toughed out a win against Kristi Ahn who has won Pac-12 title just 2 years ago.

Got feel bad for her ,she was so good all year in both singles and doubles .. But she lost 2 points to Stanford ,so did Gabi D...

Looks like my Georgia women are taking it to Stanford in doubles. Time to get back over there to watch the singles portion.

Yeah King was up 6-1 5-0 and now it is 5-5. Kimbrell has made a nice comeback at 1 but Garcia has fallen apart at 3. Both of Georgia's girls from Japan got hammered.

One moon ball too many by the Cal girl at 6 and Florida is through to the semis. Hitting one of those into a 20 mph wind time after time again was bound to come back and get her.

Video of the final game of the match. The ball was getting so high it was tough to get it in the frame.

Florida will go down hard against the Cardinal tomorrow. Revenge will be Sweet.

Should be a good match. Cardinal seem to be peaking at the right time. We'd like to get a better result at 3 with Cercone. She had been steady all year and suddenly is struggling in Illinois.

maybe she doesn't like the wind. It is very windy out there. It was windy yesterday when I was there.

That Kristie Ahn sure hits the cover off the ball. That was a blowout from the get-go.

I don't know Kristie personally but I know she is the BEST player on the team when she is healthy and playing well. Yes, that is correct, Kristie is actually better than Gibbs. these two are probably the best 2 players in NCAA right now. so that is a luxury to have. If Kristie can develop a serve like Svetlana Kuznetsova, she could be top 50 player in WTA. Of course, that is easier said than done.

Can the card chicks keep the dream alive, will UCLA make finals in both tournies. Here we go

Why is it in women's tennis that there are so many lopsided scores. I mean this is the NCAA Semifinals and in the Stanford/Florida match the 5 completed 1st sets are 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-1

women are not as good at holding their serve. Meaning if you are playing good or bad there is not the serve to get quick points or set you up better in points. There is also more lopsided set scores among men's players who are not the best servers while players who rely on their serves usually have closer sets.

Yeah but by the time you get to the semifinals you expect that the players should be fairly equal so even if they can't hold serve they should be able to break the opponents as frequently as they get broke themselves. I'd expect these kinds of scores in the 1st round between a 1 seed and a conference champion from a smaller conference but not between 2 elite teams.

Both final fours are amazing today. Score wise that is. Not sure about the quality of play since I can't watch any of it. Stanford's got some real chances of knocking Florida off their little perch.

Stanford and UCLA have the wins in the bank but they look like they may struggle to get the 4th

That's true. But even at the pro level you will see more 2-6 6-1 6-1 type scores in the WTA than the ATP. And the lower level you go in the ATP the more likely you are to see the one sided set scores.

My court 11 stream keeps breaking down, otherwise its been great coverage (other than no sound)
